Unlike the other IF routes, gluttony if totally fits in with Subarus "heroism" he's doing all of this in a vain attempt to save everyone. If he only knew how return by death worked or found his book. @@Steyr32 I think the idea behind the IF stories is that his checkpoints don't get updated if he isn't actively pushing forwards with his goal of saving Emilia. Since Gluttony ends with Subaru killing everyone he's ever loved, his checkpoint would probably still be back before he wandered off.

Yeah Im REALLY hoping for some OVAs between seasons 2&3. Sloth especially. I know there's issues with White Fox atm but, I can't see Kadokawa letting a cash cow like Re:Zero go to waste just because of studio drama.
The real tragedy begins when he finally realizes that he was "the same Subaru" from the start and that he destroyed what Subaru wanted to protect from the start and can't fix it. And tragedy reaches its climax when his dream of collecting all the pieces and returning the original Subaru comes true, only to discover that the person he had imagined as a hero was no different from him from the start, he was not a hero in the first place, he couldn't save anyone, he couldn't save the knights from the white whale or the Beetlejuice, He couldn't save Rem... he couldn't be a hero
When I first read this I felt so empty and depressed. Subaru goes on a journey to find himself but we all know he will never achieve that, he believes that he and ‘Natsuki Subaru’ are completely different people even though they are the same. He kills everyone to find himself so he can help them, he is under the impression that ‘Natsuki Subaru’ can make it all better even though the save point most likely has already updated making his actions irreversible. This if is so underrated. Its like a beautiful skyscraper gets absolutely smacked to ground right as it gets completed. And when you realize that said skyscrapper will never complete itself and keep trying so as he withers away its just pure pain.
This was the only if story I read thus far and I feel it's very and good. Its also aligned with Subaru character perfectly. So his hair change due to beako past( some things never changes).

I love how all of the If stories really explore the idea of what happens if a person falls into each sin. Suberu was never satiated and needed to know who he was, which lead him to killing everyone, but if he was contempt with at least still being alive he could’ve saved himself. I think it shows you can never have everything, so trying to ends in corruption.

I think the first trial is an issue _even if_ you're from Earth. I doubt the average person is a constellation nut like Subaru, so his convenient choice of hobby really helps here. Am I wrong? Let me know if people in your country can identify stars on sight like Subaru. All I know is that Sirius is hot (the star, not the character) and that the North Star points north.

I’m honestly hoping for a Reinhardt vs Subaru fight in the eventual felt camp arc even if it’s as a joke. Like Reinhardt jokingly attempts to pull his dragon sword while looking at Subaru but to his surprise it is drawn which make Reinhardt now suspicious of Subaru.

I've only heard/seen bits and pieces of Re:Zero, but the IF stories have been something that really intrigued me. With my limited understanding, I think I might see a parallel between the Gluttony IF and the Pride IF story: both are essentially "missing" when Subaru calls for help from the guards at the very beginning. In the Pride IF, Subaru is too stubborn to call for help and struggles to beat the thugs on his own, and this completely alters his path. In the Gluttony IF, he did call for help, but Subaru's method of "becoming complete" after losing his memory goes astray because the _only_ major character who could have had a memory of this moment in their "book of the dead" was (to my limited knowledge) _Reinhard,_ someone Subaru is unable to kill. Subaru can do as many loops to get as many books of the dead he wants, but without Reinhard's book, he will never regain the memory of the _very first important decision he made_ that went missing from his memory, and without that memory, he will never truly understand the "Subaru" that he is trying to emulate, because this very first action had consequences that reverberated through his entire journey (as seen in the Pride IF). Now, I could be completely wrong because I know so little about the series, but maybe you'll find it interesting?

This amnesiac Subaru won't remember the times where he did die and looped back in time, it's where the original Subaru grew the most, the so called "loops" but no one know that except the original "Natsuki Subaru" So this amnesiac Subaru will NEVER complete himself, NEVER. If you have read the original timeline, you will know why ( related to the sin archbishop of gluttony and that no one knows and has knowledge of what the loops are and how Subaru reacted to each of the 23 loops) but I must say, a very great parallel indeed. As an avid fan of the series, I highly approve of it's thought-provokeness. Nonetheless, I do confirm it to be false, the facts are at the top

btw. i strongly think Emila turns into Satella by the end. because "Emilia is the only person affected by this penalty of Return By Death, with no explanation to why this is." this is because Satella gave Return by death to Subaru in order to change the past and stop Emilia from turning into Satella. However, Subaru says he will save her instead. so that is why Satella only kills Emilia when he tries to tell her. plus they have the same voice actor. and is said that she is "born from the same cursed blood as the Witch" as well as calling her "the descendant of the Witch". born from the same cursed blood. literally THE SAME BLOOD. the same mother. and the descendant is due to their striking similarity. which is because they are THE SAME PERSON. and something in the story will make Emilia become Satella. And if Subaru is Flugel. then perhaps this has happened before. and Subaru is being "summoned" to the world of rezero over and over. and is every Isekai'ed person in its history, and if a Subaru comes in contact with himself the penalty of Return By Death will kick in. since rezero likes toying with alternate timelines. what if every isekai'ed person is Subaru, reset from coming out of the Convenience store each time. and since black-haired people are "rare". its probably only Subaru's lineage. so basically Elsa is a direct descendant of one of the Subaru's selves. I think im a pretty big brain here. by reading between the lines. we are still missing vital information. but it might have to do with what the witch cult is trying to acomplish. and that vault pandora wanted to open. its all tied to Emilia.

Gladiator island if he had survived Todd attack and didn't rbs to solve everything that probably the divergence. This is a great if, but there is something I don't get. Why could Subaru leave the Pleiades Watchtower? I thought he couldn't until he finished the trials. My guess is he did finish the trials somehow and therefore screwed himself because that might have updated his checkpoint depending on what the condition for his checkpoints truly is.

When I first read this I felt so empty and depressed.
Subaru goes on a journey to find himself but we all know he will never achieve that, he believes that he and ‘Natsuki Subaru’ are completely different people even though they are the same. He kills everyone to find himself so he can help them, he is under the impression that ‘Natsuki Subaru’ can make it all better even though the save point most likely has already updated making his actions irreversible.

Meaning there’s a reason Subaru was brought to this world and his save points won’t allow him to permanently stray from it
It definitely seems to be linked from Emilia and Subaru (likely due to a link between Satella, the summoner and Emilia- possibly just them being the same person) as remember in arc 3 when Subaru forced himself to say he can return by death to Emilia and she died instead of him, Tappei stated that effect only occurs with Emilia anyone else and Subaru would die

This if is so underrated. Its like a beautiful skyscraper gets absolutely smacked to ground right as it gets completed. And when you realize that said skyscrapper will never complete itself and keep trying so as he withers away its just pure pain.
This was the only if story I read thus far and I feel it's very and good. Its also aligned with Subaru character perfectly. So his hair change due to beako past( some things never changes).

The problem is that Subaru himself doesn't know, so even if they did question him, its not like they could get an answer. Even if he did know, he would probably just brush it off like "Ah don't worry about it"

I love how all of the If stories really explore the idea of what happens if a person falls into each sin. Suberu was never satiated and needed to know who he was, which lead him to killing everyone, but if he was contempt with at least still being alive he could’ve saved himself. I think it shows you can never have everything, so trying to ends in corruption.

I think the first trial is an issue _even if_ you're from Earth. I doubt the average person is a constellation nut like Subaru, so his convenient choice of hobby really helps here. Am I wrong? Let me know if people in your country can identify stars on sight like Subaru. All I know is that Sirius is hot (the star, not the character) and that the North Star points north.

I don't recall the backstory or meaning behind the Big Dipper, nor do I remember any of the names of its individual star dots.
If you suddenly locked me in a tower without warning, threatened to kill me if I attempted escaping, pop-quizzed me with some riddle with the answer being one of Big Dipper's stars then yeah, I'm confident I would fail that test.

I've only heard/seen bits and pieces of Re:Zero, but the IF stories have been something that really intrigued me. With my limited understanding, I think I might see a parallel between the Gluttony IF and the Pride IF story: both are essentially "missing" when Subaru calls for help from the guards at the very beginning. In the Pride IF, Subaru is too stubborn to call for help and struggles to beat the thugs on his own, and this completely alters his path. In the Gluttony IF, he did call for help, but Subaru's method of "becoming complete" after losing his memory goes astray because the _only_ major character who could have had a memory of this moment in their "book of the dead" was (to my limited knowledge) _Reinhard,_ someone Subaru is unable to kill.
Subaru can do as many loops to get as many books of the dead he wants, but without Reinhard's book, he will never regain the memory of the _very first important decision he made_ that went missing from his memory, and without that memory, he will never truly understand the "Subaru" that he is trying to emulate, because this very first action had consequences that reverberated through his entire journey (as seen in the Pride IF). Now, I could be completely wrong because I know so little about the series, but maybe you'll find it interesting?
You are correct, he would also never regain the memory of meeting Emilia because no one remembers that but the original Subaru. The very first loop was also very important when it came to how he felt about Emilia.

Let me just tell you bro, no, that is not the reason, it's more of the people that he will kill only saw the Subaru that saves them at the right time, this anomaly. This amnesiac Subaru won't remember the times where he did die and looped back in time, it's where the original Subaru grew the most, the so called "loops" but no one know that except the original "Natsuki Subaru" So this amnesiac Subaru will NEVER complete himself, NEVER. If you have read the original timeline, you will know why ( related to the sin archbishop of gluttony and that no one knows and has knowledge of what the loops are and how Subaru reacted to each of the 23 loops) but I must say, a very great parallel indeed. As an avid fan of the series, I highly approve of it's thought-provokeness. Nonetheless, I do confirm it to be false, the facts are at the top
mhm I feel like a good point to mention for this Subaru is that he actually believed after he patched together and completed 'Natsuki Subaru' he could just use RBD and start over again and now the complete hero Subaru will save everyone.. in a way this kinda at least made him have some logic to why he kills people and doesn't care, its because he Knows complete Subaru will save them after he successfully patches complete Subaru

btw. i strongly think Emila turns into Satella by the end. because "Emilia is the only person affected by this penalty of Return By Death, with no explanation to why this is." this is because Satella gave Return by death to Subaru in order to change the past and stop Emilia from turning into Satella. However, Subaru says he will save her instead. so that is why Satella only kills Emilia when he tries to tell her. plus they have the same voice actor. and is said that she is "born from the same cursed blood as the Witch" as well as calling her "the descendant of the Witch". born from the same cursed blood. literally THE SAME BLOOD. the same mother. and the descendant is due to their striking similarity. which is because they are THE SAME PERSON. and something in the story will make Emilia become Satella. And if Subaru is Flugel. then perhaps this has happened before. and Subaru is being "summoned" to the world of rezero over and over. and is every Isekai'ed person in its history, and if a Subaru comes in contact with himself the penalty of Return By Death will kick in. since rezero likes toying with alternate timelines. what if every isekai'ed person is Subaru, reset from coming out of the Convenience store each time. and since black-haired people are "rare". its probably only Subaru's lineage. so basically Elsa is a direct descendant of one of the Subaru's selves. I think im a pretty big brain here. by reading between the lines. we are still missing vital information. but it might have to do with what the witch cult is trying to acomplish. and that vault pandora wanted to open. its all tied to Emilia.

This is a great if, but there is something I don't get. Why could Subaru leave the Pleiades Watchtower? I thought he couldn't until he finished the trials. My guess is he did finish the trials somehow and therefore screwed himself because that might have updated his checkpoint depending on what the condition for his checkpoints truly is.
