Martha Reeves was my favorite girl group lead singer back in the 60's. Both vocally and visually! The three of them were a gift, as good as any of the titans of Motown!
Every time I hear the song, it's summons the youthful exuberance of love. Martha Reeves and the Vandellas were remarkable. There is nothing like them today❤
I bought this from a record store when it had just been released. I walked up there and listened to this record in a listening booth and the sound took my head off. That was early 1963 and I think I was still in grade school and I was 13 or 14. Good time to be a young person.
She wouldn’t tell him but the name came from Vandyke the street they lived on and Della Reese. She probably didn’t think he’d understand.! Her expressions when she’s singing or talking are so impressive with extreme magnetic pull.

Rosalind was 2 shy 2 speak in pubic, i saw an interview n she totally backed up from speaking when they asked her, some people are painfully shy, i was one 🎵🎹😕
I don't believe they are shy. They don't look shy standing in front of dozens of teenagers to perform. Also Betty according to Martha was a firecracker. Martha eventually became scared of Betty as Betty had a temper and did not let "shyness" get in her way. Her and Betty almost came to physical violence. At that point, Martha had Betty removed from the group, but Betty continued to stalk Martha even after she was out of the group. After Betty was fired, she continued to stalk Martha at performances, heckling her from the audience.
I never heard that (stalking), the feud was over a fella, Martha was always difficult and none of them were particularly close,. That said, Martha and Betty are great and accomplished ladies, I have high respect for both and what they had to endure.
I love 60 s beat music . I think most early successful early beat music was British versions of girl groups . Plus chuck berry. Plus little Richard. Though there was a little Carl Perkins . Am I wrong?
