      @@TheCrafsMan did you thin down your paint with water? It looked pretty hard to spread and use. If not, trying using some water next time, it helps a lot. Not too much, or then it becomes too thin and hard to apply. Plus, since the layer will be thinner, it's gonna be harder to leave brush strokes in the paint, it will save time later (you don't have to sand it to delete the brush marks)

      It is a special touch. But realistically it's not sustainable as a channel grows. As he gets more popular I actually HOPE he doesn't reply to everyone.... that's how people burnout and how it stops being fun. There's nothing I want more than for Crafsman to get joy from what he does and at some point I imagine he will have to dial back his response rate.

      It makes me think about Aragorn and them, right before rolling up on the gate at Mordor: "There may come a day when I won't be able to reply to the comments. When I'm too busy steady making videos and crafting silly DIY figures. But it is not THIS day." ;)
      But for real, it does get maybe a little difficult replying. However, I really DON'T want to miss some of the things y'all say! But don't worry - if it gets to be too much and I find myself replying to comments instead of making a video each week, then I'll know it's time to dial it back. :)

    • @thebeaverlabs1348
      @thebeaverlabs1348 5 лет назад +5

      I understand that there will be a day when TheCrafsMan has too many comments on each of his videos to read and reply to all them. But when he can't read all his comments that doesn't I won't watch all his videos anymore. For now I'm going to enjoy this hidden gem and spend time with it's community.

    Pinky tip when painting is on point- I've painted miniatures for years and that is one of the best tips for new painters. Many thin coats, washes, dry brushing, blending on the eyes... • @TheCrafsMan
      @TheCrafsMan  5 лет назад

      This means so much to me, Rylicia. I want to first say thank you for your service in the Air Force. Next, I think it's great that you're going to school for graphic design! PLEASE do go forward with your character! To be honest with you, I was just making a video and off the cuff decided on the "Free-Range Chicken", because I figured it was at least a little funny, and that I should be able to model it. Now my wife and I are making plastic casts of the figure, getting them ready for sale in early November. I did't think that would happen like this, and it has been a wonderful surprise. I say all that to say this: It seems like we do some of our neatest things when we're just having fun, and maybe even being silly. When you get ready to make your character, just loosen up and think about how the young version of you would approach that character. :D All the best to you! Thank you for watching!

    Oh, snap! That detailing on the suit makes her look like a figure by Playmobil! (Which means she's an action figure by default.)
    A few other thoughts:
    1. That old telephone. Until physical tours of the CrafsShop are available, I would love another video (or twelve -- no pressure 😉) of your collections. They bring back memories of being at my grandparents' house.
    2. Would it be possible to purchase a set of goggles? I'd like to do a steampunk Free Range Chicken, and they would be perfect.
    3. SPACECLUCKS would make an awesome short (five or so minutes per episode) animated series, voiced by Your Host, the CrafsMan. 😉
    4. Merch. Maybe a t-shirt with a design on the front of the CrafsPuppet saying, "Hello," and a small "SteadyCraftin" logo on the back (near the neckline)? Or a design incorporating the phrase, "Oh, SNAP! I'm SteadyCraftin"? There's a website called TeeTurtle that features a lot of cute craft-themed apparel & puns ("I'm Pro-craft-inating") that I'm thinking of as a visual reference.
    Ok, I've probably got you completely discombogulated by now. Thank you for all your hard work & your commitment to your viewers. Take care & God bless. 💙

      Courtney Zeo, always with the wonderful comments! :D I appreciate you so much.
      I'm going to have to show y'all about that telephone, and maybe include some other things, like the mysterious "blasting box" I showed briefly in another video.
      Will look into maybe having some "accessories" that fit the Free-Range Chicken, if it's popular enough. I like that!
      "Spaceclucks"... the name alone is worth doing something with. LOL!
      Been thinking about shirts, but not sure if we're there yet. On my mind, though. Thank you!

    Hey Crafsman. I'm a professional illustrator and I've been painting professionally for almost 10 years. Love your videos. Just wanted to drop a few tips for keeping your brushes nice and in good condition. I noticed that your purple brush had some flaking paint and the tip was a little wobbly. Also I saw that you keep your brushes in your water a lot. I'd suggest keeping your brushes on a clean paper towel next to your water source when your not using them to paint. This prevents the water from soaking up into the wood and causing it to expand. When it the wood dries it will contract and cause the paint on the handle to flake off. Over time it will also cause the metal tip holding the brush fibers/hairs to become loose and it may fall off entirely. When your ready to clean your brushes you can use regular dish soap or Masterson's brush cleaner and preserver to remove any paint from the tip. If you use just a bit of left over soap to shape the tip and let that dry it will keep your brush tip in good shape. I know you said some of the brushes you had were cheaper ones so it's probably not that big a deal. But if you have some nice brushes in your collection this will help keep them around for many years. Again Love your videos I hope this helps in some way.

    this really reminds me of an Earthworm Jim type character. those washes add quite a bit of character. Another technique I have learned is to do primer, then do a black coat before putting any colors down and you can get some really nice crisp lines to edges. Plus you can still add the was later for that natural grime on figures. this is really inspiring! great job Crafsman!

      :D Glad you liked that! I started not to do that, because I was like "Oh snap... what if everybody wants goggles with each of these?!?" but I decided to at least show people one idea of what's possible. ;)

      Oh yeah, I can imagine you could create a LOT of work for yourself.😁They’re so great! It’s a good challenge for people to make them for themselves, though. Wishing you outrageous success!😊

    Why has it taken me 2yrs to find this? Your engagement with the viewers is excellent, I picture you as a fantastic grandfather type guy. Good luck to you and your wife with your ventures 🙂

    I wish i had your creativity. I can sculpt and mold and cast, but i can never think of original ideas. All ive done is make stuff based on existing brands. Your stuff is really neat and I love the style and humor behind it.

      Well thank you so much! But I have to say - don't underestimate your creativity! You've got it - just got to maybe chase it and grab hold of it. Just let lose and see what happens without beating yourself up over it at first. Refine it later. Have fun. We're our most creative when we're like kids, I believe. :)
