The Crafsman blew my mind right near the beginning of the video:
“I don’t think I have done a single thing in my life that has turned out exactly how I wanted it to. But we just compromise, and we be happy with it.”
Because this morning in my journal, I wrote this:
“I don’t think anything I’ve ever made is exactly the thing I intended when I set out to make it. And that’s OK.”
Everybody: what’s important is that you’re making something!

If you want to get a smooth finish with Sculpey, bake it for 8 to 10 minutes (instead of 15 to 20) let it cool, then sand it while it’s not 100% hardened. Then go back and finish baking it with it’s new smoothness (:
I have some videos on my channel on how I do it. It’s a lot easier to sand before it’s at its completely baked and hardened. Hope you can see this and it helps a bit! Thank you for the lovely videos! ✨💕

This video is a great example of one of the most important ideas I learned in my journey to become an artist, which is not to try to take the art somewhere, but to let the art take you somewhere. In other words, when you are too focused on trying to capture the idea you had pictured in your mind you will inevitably create something stiff and less joyful and flowing, but if you just let your mind play, the creativity will start bringing out ideas from your unconscious you never knew where in your head at all. It took me many years to reach that point where I felt comfortable enough to trust my own instincts and loosen up, to let the art just evolve into its own thing, but the work is pretty much always more satisfying in that way.

Hello crafsman as an art student I relate to your sketchbook problem.
A easier solution i have found is starting from the middle or the back(depending on how it is bound together) so if you dont like drawing you can take the page out.
This also let's you test the paper if you are using inks or paint to see how it reacts.

That was just GREAT! I love how you show how to try a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and sort of stumble into something that you might not have planned originally, but ends up even better than you'd thought! Again, what you do makes MORE people feel like they can just start playing around with materials, let their whimsy flow, and be happily surprised when something emerges that's amazing. You're opening up so many doors for folks. And by the way: 1) The extra bits aren't a waste---they'll find their way into some other clever idea; 2) Your paper sketches are just as fun to look at as the 3-D stuff you make; and 3) I'm JUST like you with those fancy journals--I'm scared to write in them and mess them up! Thanks for the smiles and encouragement today.

A wise woman once told me, “Don’t make yourself wrong for your process.” Most people seem to think that artists know exactly what they want to accomplish and exactly how to accomplish it and videos like this are wonderful in helping to inform the opposite of that assumption.
If your job was to only make sculptures and not any of the other ten thousand amazingly creative things you do, then you might have a “professional” process that you follow with little variation . (which to me would be kinda boring....)
Also, your Sculpty piece need not be the final result. It can be a study/sketch to inform the process where you later create another piece using the individual components.
(And when you are mega mega mega famous that original sculpture will be worth a million dollars. 😁)
Many thanks and much love for all that you do. Keep on craftin’!

Your video brightened my day, especially when you showed your clay character, I could tell it came from your heart and that shows. Thank you!

I personally started a new virtual sculpt today in the Blender 3D program, specifically a new model of a Jason Voorhees hockey mask, and I have made more progress and have had tremendously greater control by going straight to sculpting the mask out of a flat mesh (which sort of mimics the way people physically sculpt such masks) than I ever did by way of the means I'd used previously of first making a modified version of what's called an edge loop mask, and also forming whatever features I could by pulling points (vertices) and then adding depth to the plane and using sculpt mode just to do what point pulling didn't allow. I spent less than an hour on this thing, I'm sure, and it is already far more accurate to the actual base of the screen used masks than anything I've done by the aforementioned means that I have been using until now.

Loved the surprise reveal at the end. Great moustache! For some reason I think if you waxed those tips it would suit you. Like an old timey western gentleman.
