- this is the removal and installation of the fuel pump and the final the car start and running. i did say mistake on the end like ( the diesel takes little longer to go to the tank) diesel is already in the tank, lool , what i meant was ( diesel takes longer to go to the injectors for the car start) sorry guys. New video soon Audi A3 2.0 TDI struggles to start when engine is warm, stay tune :)
Excellent. Thank you. Not quite so scary to change the HPFP as I had thought. Very grateful.
thank you so much. you are the only person showing exactly what to do and how to do it without removing the engine
I thank you so Much for your Video mate 👍👍👍👍 i enjoyed your Video so much!!! Keep filming all the Details pls 👍👍
You are so good how to explain thanks alot:)
hello you are really very good that really helped me a lot thank you for this video
Very good job
Very very good
Hi Nuno, yes I did, using a 24mm socket / ratchet on the Alternator.
Using a normal e torx 14mm socket and 3/8 ratchet on the H/P Fuel Pump bolt.
Very little room at the back of the pump to gain good leverage, damaged my knuckles when the socket slipped off the bolt.
I also put the car in first gear.
I have ordered a battery impact ratchet today to hopefully spin the bolt off.
🤞🤞🤞
They are very tight. Did few so far and they are tight. Just make sure you are undo the bolt on the right way, the ratchet should turn towards you, looking to the engine from the front, ratchet should be turn towards to right side to undo bolt. But they are tight. Electric ratchet should help on this matter actually. Hope you managed to do it🙂👌
Did you need to adaptations and coding on the new pump..?
you can also remove the high pressure pump in the first gear?
Is ia possible to only change the pump, or will it fail if i only change that?
do you tighten the special tool with hand, as I think I tightened it too hard and when I want to loose the hpfp bolt the whole engine turns?
By hand enough. Don't need much force to hold it in place mate 😉
Hi need help to replace this HPFP on a N47 2.0 f10 520d engine. I've cracked off bolt holding pump through sprocket loose, but the holding tool works loose everytime when loosening the bolt. It goes tight and loose wondering maybe need to knock out pump first then loosen bolt at a time and check tool is tight. Thanks
Thank you for sharing. I had the same concern as you. I changed the high-pressure pump and injectors. I have problems restarting the car.
What did you do to restart the car? Thank you in advance for your help..
Thanks a lot for ur Videos
Can u please explain how to avoid issues that u faced to start engine how we can be sure that diesel will not take along time to make a cycle in system.
And u didn't show if there is a metal pices in the tank that could come again through the system
Thanks a lot again that was helpful
Have a nice day.. .
Hi, great video, thanks.
I'm getting low pressure on fuel rail through diagnostics on 2008 120D N47. The car starts after a good few cracks, and idles perfectly all day as long as I don't touch the accelerator. When I drive, it gets limp mode, low power warning on dash, and cuts out. Could this be the HPFP?
Hi welcome. Did u connect a diagnosis tool?
Hi @Nuno Oliveira, did you have to lock the flywheel with the tool to change the hpfp? I have a bmw n47d20 engine and some fourms online show the flywheel being locked in place a certain way? does anyone else know this ?
Many thanks
Great video btw, thanks
hi i fitted my new pump, now i cant get car to start still, i believe air in system, ive cranked multiple times, drained battery etc from cranking that long , what do you mean at around 25:00 mins you say about you "put the pipe and cranked abit longer" ? can you exlpain further, thanks
Hi have did you get the main screw out of the pump did you have to lock the engine to make sure is not spinning around ??
Bolt is not that tight. I put a spanner on the alternator to hold it, then undo the bolt on the pump. Works a treat. To tight the bolt is the same procedure. Be careful to not tight too much otherwise u can damaged the chain. Hope this helps. Thanks ☺️
@@axores20 thanks a lot will try tomorrow
the problem is that the diesel pump is in front of the engine and not in the back of the tank as in other cars, when you change the fuel filter you have to start the installation to get the diesel to the pump otherwise your pump will run empty and make your filings and use standard disel no aditives etc etc
Hi Nuno fix
Am having a issue with a Bmw n47 fuel pump car started fine needed four injectors so changed them took out fuel delivery valve out of side of pump to check for operation now ac got a no start with 12 bar pressure at the rail I need 299 bay pressure how do I bleed the pump please
Great little video, I think the bolt on your tool is to push the pump off the shaft instead of tapping it (admittedly it was a dead pump, so doesn't matter)
The tool i was using wasn't the correct one. So that bolt was useless 😊 the tapping was very gentle. I have done too many bmws so far and I always use this method. Don't hit it like bad guy😅 just gently. Thanks
I have almost the same problem crank and start after awhile then cut off, i checked the injectors and relay there is no metal inside, i got issue on dashboard Fuel pump fault, it was a littel metal on deisel tank, could be the pump on deisel tank?
when i crank the deisel come out from nut injectors i checked all of them.what do you think? thanks
Fuel presure sensor
If sprocket is out of alignment would you have to retime the engine my friend or move with special tool? just a theoretical question
Hi. Please never rotate the engine with the pump out. The easy way is to rotate the pump shaft one turn and that should help to slide in the sprocket. 😊
Hi great video! where can I order tool to hold timing in place please. thanks!
Hi Nuno,
Can I please check the Black rear bolt (e-torx 14mm) removal process when removing the pump, there seems to be conflicting information?
Remove plastic cover
Engage first gear or use a 24mm socket / ratchet to lock the Alternator
(Flywheel can be locked at TDC if you have the flywheel locking pin)
Completely remove the Black rear bolt with e-torx head from the H/P Fuel Pump gear (some videos do not show this bolt being removed)?
Insert locking tool to lock the gear in place
Undo all the threaded bolts including the rear one
Pull the pump off with tapered shaft attached
Keyway key stays in the H/P Fuel Pump gear
Realign the new pump keyway to the same position as the original - the H/P Fuel Pump gear will still be locked into position with the gear locking tool
Insert new H/P Fuel Pump ensuring the keyways are still aligned
Tighten the pump bolts including the rear bolt
Remove the gear locking tool
Insert and tighten the rear e-torx 14mm bolt and tighten to 65nm
Attach pipework / electrical connections
Please can you confirm if this is the correct procedure?
Very good, is it important to loosen the tensioner when doing this job ? How did you know that the fuel pump had failed ?
Hi, thanks for comment, it wasn't any fuel pressure on the rail, after take fuel rail out and noticed metal bits straight away i knew pump failed. I believe lady did put petrol instead of diesel. So it wear out. If u mean the tension from the chain i didn't touch that. The bolt each old the pump to chain sprocket it wasn't that tight. So it was easy to undo and put back. Hope this helps. Thanks.
Hi there I have bmw in my garage I replace Feul pump and not start. I’m get crazy come up 4b90 😔 plz any help
Having the same problem, did you fix your issue?
I have a question. So I replaced the high pressure pump and cleaned the fuel thank also the injectors but still no pumping pressure to the injectors and yes the low pressure pump works
Did you use a scanner to prime the pump? Snap on autel or bmw software is needed for that.
Hi Nuno, The e torx 14mm bolt on the rear of my 118d e87 high pressure fuel pump is solid.
I cannot remove this bolt.
Any ideas 🤬
Hi. Did you lock the alternator like i did on the video?
I have a question - do you have to replace or at least clean the fuel tank as it contains metal dust?
Great video, thank you !
Clean the pipe from the fuel filter to the pump. That is very important. Also clean the injectors return fuel pipe the ones are attached to the top of the injectors. Also is a black rubber pipe from the rail to the pump. Also, all metal fuel lines. Brake cleaner or wd40 is good for clean it. Don't worry about return pipe from the pump to the tank. Because the metal bits if is any inside the tank you don't need to worry. Nothing can go through the filter. 😊
Thank you! @@pauld090388
Hello Nuno, great videos bro :) I have little problem, I installed a new high pressure fuel pump but instead of aligning the pump shaft, I rotated the crank pulley, and I continue the same process as you did , priming the pump with delphi for several times to remove the bubbles, it turned out there was no fuel coming to the common rail. the high pressure fuel pump doesnt give me fuel when cranking. PS the low pressure fuel pump works great, tested! what do you think I did wrong?
Hi. Thanks for watching my videos, now very important question, did you rotate the crank while the high pressure fuel pump was out?
@@axores20 yes I did enough to make the new pump to align. I know messed the timing for the fuel pump how do I fix the timing. big thanks
ok so I went back to the car to undo what did, rotating the engine to the original posistion as the old pump was, and sadly I found out the the little thing that makes the pump rotate was all broken, I dont know how, maybe because to much fuel was pressed and the shaft stoped rotating or i did tight the bolt well enough. timing chaine to be purchased and replace. not a big a deal because it has to be changed anyway
Hi. 4b90. Fault code. It’s high presser pump or injector?
what was your fault in the end with this code?
Got the same issue, hope it will help to save some buck
thanks. really nice, never seen some one cleaning injectors.. :) while driving it wasnt giving check engine?
Hi. After this all years car still strong. No issues ☺️ it was metal fillings so clean them they become brand new.
@@axores20 coz every one says u have to clean tank too, but there is no any posts except yours, that isn,t cleaning.
@@kasparsmellups5835 i Did not clean the tank because if on the tank is metal fillings it will be trapped on the fuel filter. After a year when i done this job i replaced the fuel filter and wasn't much fillings there at all. So if u want u can clean it, remove the pump electric one on the back seats and inspect the tank. If will be fuel contaminated with water yes, u need do a deep clean on the tank. Metal fillings it wont go through the filter anyway. 😀
@@axores20 yes, that i wnted to hear 👍👍 u saved lot of time and bucks to me, thanks.. ✌️ subscribed 👍
@@kasparsmellups5835 thanks. Anytime 😊👍
Very helpful video Thanks !. I have just replaced my 120d fuel pump but now I have air in fuel system I have already bled the system through BMW Dis software , but as soon as I start driving it shows p0088 which is high pressure in rail and then it cuts out and then start after too much struggle and throws p0087 which low pressure on this indicates low fuel pressure so I have both high and low which makes me think air in the system ? Please help how to take the air out ? And bleed it fully ? Already tried through BMW software but not helping
Hi, so with the bmw software did u prime the system? Did u heard the primary fuel pump kick in?
If u did what i will recommend is open each injector fuel line nut one each time. When u see fuel come out when u crank the car then tight the nut and go for next one. Do this to all injector pipes it should start.
@@axores20 First of All thanks for the quick reply . The car does start but once you accelerate it it throws p0088 which is high pressure in rail and then after two three minutes cuts off and throws p0087 which means low pressure in Rail.
Also I have done bleeding through BMW software and the low pressure fuel pump in the tank is working and can be heard .it does complete the bleeding process but with p0088 after it asks you to start the car during the bleeding process.
@@ambzzifying ok so what was the reason for replacing the pump? So then we can get somewhere together 😀
Can you remove iT without the tool
I dont recommended. Because the chain can go out of alignment. U can get a socket put tape on it to make it thicker and should screw on the sprocket. A tool is not expensive about 15£ on uk money.
Hi I’m doing the same thing, I’ve got it loose but it won’t pop out any further and I’m really stuck any suggestions?
Did you find issue
@@krishnadhorasoo4160 yes I forgot the big torx bolt that holds it in 😂 unscrewed it all the way and came straight out
@flixhd8606 did you holding tool not come loose as mine keeps coming loose when loosening the torx bolt
@@krishnadhorasoo4160 yes mine did every time I just held it in place and took the screw all the way out then tightened up the holding nut
@flixhd8606 because my tool is moving in out with the pump ie if pump is loose and off center so is the tool did u have this issue suppose its tight on the sprocket
Should have bought pump first And fit same day around 130 exchange at Euro car parts cheap just did my 3.0 td x6 just pay a small surcharge
No make difference mate. Car is running like dream. Car was in 3 garages people didnt know whats going on. I did fix it and the owner is happy. So i dont know what is your point. The tool hold the sprocket and the car could stay like this for even a month. Never will Move out.
Can you link me for buy tool

Bro your supposed to wind in the bolt on the timing tool it's to extract the pump off the gear easy simple and no damage that's what the bolt in the timing tool is for to extract the pump you should not be banging things with a hammer
This system is not the one u think it is. The engine m47 yes u can do that engine n47 u cant. The tool the original for this job is no way to use any bolt to extract the pump out. Check my another video about the tools measure then u will see what i am talking about. Thanks
@@jameslatimer1432 u cant do on this engine bro. Check the video about the tool for this engines. M47 u can extract easy. This one n47 u cant. 2 completely different tools.
you can also remove the high pressure pump in the first gear?
