  • We brought a fly rod along on our family vacation to Glacier National Park and had several opportunities to do some fishing in multiple regions of the park. Not only did we get to experience some of the beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains but also caught several fish, including some native west-slope cutthroats! This was a trip I will never forget. Hope you enjoy the video!

    I really enjoyed your video. My wife and I went to Glacier 5 years ago after I retired. I could not find out any info on fishing in Glacier anywhere but I always pack a fly rod everywhere I go. We hiked just about every trail there. The scenery is second to none anywhere in the world. My fishing experience was similar to yours but I was lucky enough to catch many beautiful small cutthroats almost anywhere I tried. Definitely a hiking and scenery place to put on your bucket list. nice video-I live near the park and if you head into the backcountry there are lakes and streams with BIG fish....best to overnight it and possibly catch 4 to 5 lb. (and larger ) RB and WSCT....there are books also describing the better fishing if you have time to get out of the "touristy" zones...always beautiful in the park-one of the main reasons we all live up here-I know you had the family along but serious anglers out there should have a night or two to get to serious fishing, incredible scenery, and the record cutthroat (13 lbs.) was caught in the park

      Red Eagle has the MT record for cutthroat-very old record. It hasn't been as good since fires but still big fish. I caught several over 5 lbs. years ago. Gunsight has big fish, fished Medicine Grizzly last year and caught nice fish. Even Hidden Lake up at Logan Pass can be amazing. One could spend the whole summer in the park backcountry going to small lakes and catching big fish. East of the divide at lower elevations better for flyfishing as they are more open country .I have never taken a pole up to Avalanche-I'm glad you did! Also if you are coming from the East their are very productive lakes on the Blackfoot Res-I just started last summer but will be getting my Res license every year now.@@PROCOTRDOCTOR123

    Love the video! Glacier is on my list! Also, Amazon has a small, folding net...folds up smaller than a nalgene and weighs nothing. Less than $10!! I love mine and it never leaves the small outside pocket of my backpack now. (Just got it this year) and...as you guys know a net solves tons of issues. This video will be help in planning my trip there- Thanks again!

    Hey guys, just wanted to tell you that this is one of my favorite fly fishing videos I’ve ever seen! I’m from Oklahoma but my heart is in N.W. Montana. Been there and loved it! I’m just now trying to learn fly fishing but would love to try it in Glacier National Park. Thank you and keep up the good work!

      All the western mountain states are awesome and beautiful. I recently moved to DFW and it sucks! All these hot, humid,flat mud water states suck ass! Even the bass fishing sucks ass here and texas is supposed to be the paramount of bass fishing. I miss chasing trout in clean cold mountain streams. But now I'm stuck here with citified,muddy lakes getting sunburned just to end up catching nothing but gars and fucking turtles once I got more money I'm getting the fuck out of here

    You guys did a wonderful job. I've flyfished all over the country. Never in GNP. I know there's bulls and Arctic Grayling up there. Grayling remain on my Bucket list. Curious to what admission to the park is and non-resident fishing fees are?

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 лет назад +2

      I'd love to catch a grayling as well. There is no fishing lice we required unless on Blackfeet land. I can't remember the park fee but I'm sure you could find it online. I don't want to lead you astray. Thanks for watching!

    Just stumbled across your channel and really enjoy the videos! I fly fish for bass and bream in Texas. Could you do a video explaining your thought process in fly selection when you arrive at new waters?

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  4 года назад +1

      We will add that to our list! As a general suggestion, i try to tie patterns that are suggestive, meaning they represent alot of different bugs well. When i get to a new stream i flip rocks and decide what type of aquatic life there is, then start with a suggestive pattern. I will say, however, that presentation trumps pattern selection. Presenting your flies in the right water column, at the appropriate drift speed, etc. is most important! Hope this helps
