    X-Men: AoA is my guilty pleasure and holds a special place in my heart. I had been out of comics for years, being stationed in Germany for the past 3 years before this came out. I walked past a comic shop in the mall and X-Men: Alpha caught my eye, so I stopped in and picked it up. AoA brought me back to comics!

    Doug Mahnke went on to do Superman during the Loeb/Kelly era, JLA with Joe Kelly, Batman during the Red Hood storyline and Green Lantern with Geoff Johns. So, maybe not a hosuehold name, but he got assigned to some pretty big titles. A few months ago DC released a hardcover book collecting random issues from his career.

    That marvel ninja turtles knock off comic did eventually come out but it was renamed to power pachyderms. It is a very strange book and I think it’s worth tracking down just for the oddity.

    I would cut out any pages I liked the artwork on, and sometimes make a scrapbook out of it. I do like the way the Wizard was shilling for Ultraverse, Valiant, Image, DC, and Marvel. I wish they would have reviewed more independent comics. And I loved collecting cards in this time, now you can’t give me any of these crappy card sets except for the Jack Kirby card set.

    My very 1st Wizard Mag was #65 end of 1996 spectacular, and I bought them consecutively until they stopped having a spine and started using staples. I grabbed a few back issues from early 90s but late 90s It became a very overpriced book to buy in Australia for very little info in return :( I miss those 90s Wizard Magazines

    15:15 I tried to get my hands on these at my local grocery store. It was the hype talk in my art class. I stashed all 4 titles under a spice rack. After a few weeks of doing this I finally had enough to get them all. But at last someone there had finally stocked the spice rack and they were all gone. Wizard magazine also had the set up issue included with a gold logo.

    I love these videos. I dutifully collected all of the terrible X-Men comics in 1995 for a few years until giving up on it and finding better material in other titles. Even as a 10 year old I knew the story telling wasn't as good as the animated series, which I vaguely understood to be adaptations of much better stories. I did enjoy Joe Mad's art though, and I still own and have nostalgia for the terrible 90's comics I read as a kid 😃

    I'm a little surprised you guys blew through the Casting Call as fast as you did. Honestly, there were some good choices in there. Yeah, yeah Danzig as Logan is dumb, but back in the 80's we almost got a Kathryn Bigelow directed X-Men movie with Bob Hoskins as Wolvie... THAT would have beenn weird), but there's some picks I LOVE.
    First up Rutger Hauer as Magneto is really inspired. Hauer would have been just a year or two removed from Split Second, so he was in phenomenal shape, and Magneto was always portrayed as being ripped (Ian McKellen is a great actor, but I never really saw him as Magneto). I think that would have been amazing.
    ALSO, Clancy Brown as Sabertooth?! YES PLEASE! Absolutely inspired choice, and his voice would have been PERFECT.
    Micheal Biehn as Cyclops is a solid choice, if a few years too late (Had this been cast in 1987 around Aliens I could absolutely see him in the role).
    I get why you guys would fly through it, and yeah I agree the space could have been used for something else, but this is basically the best this article ever was and I would have loved to have seen this lineup in a movie.

    the only thing I remember about 'age of apocalypse' is that Psylocke had short hair before Legion changed history, and then she went back to having long hair. It was almost like Adam Hughes was begging Marvel to let him draw her with short hair and they were like 'just this once, and never bring it up ever again!'. So yeah .. not memorable imo.

    Ed is so right about this being the point where hero and indie audiences split. Up until the mid 90's, plenty of indie artists knew enough about current X-Men to goof on them. I honestly can't remember anyone caring enough about AoA to work up an opinion other than a blanket "it sucks".

I pretty recently picked up his whole silver surfer run an just find it stunning. I'm a huge fan of black at white but there is just something about the way he does color that just makes his work unique.

    5:40 'Adult Thermonuclear Samurai Pachyderms' was advertised as allegedly "Coming Soon!" with a silhouette image somewhere in Marvel Age #40 (or maybe the inside back cover of #50? or thereabouts), iirc, never to be seen or heard from again. It may have been a gag house ad since no other information was given.

      @kekzilla6669 3 года назад

      @@Tymbus Ah, mystery solved, thanks! I remember spotting the ad but finding no accompanying solicitation, checking what year that issue of Marvel Age was from and thinking the comic would have been a little late to the party as a TMNT parody given assorted Eclipse titles already long on the scene, thereafter assuming the project had been abandoned for that reason. It's presently available as a digital download. 🐘

    Sandman and Neil Gaiman is really good. I own all of it, but man I wish the early image stuff were in collected editions. If it’s not Spawn, Savage dragon, or The Maxx it’s pretty much git fukt. I would do terrible things for a Prophet TPB, or for Top Cow to make the Darkness easier to collect, it’s like pulling teeth.
