People don't understand how hard the Nutcracker performance is, I've been in them multiple times and keeping up with everyone is hard work and motivation, it's not easy.
THEY MAKE IT LOOOK SO Easy THO
Ikr I have done it a couple times and I had SO MANY super quick costume changes, the amount of time we put into practicing, remembering all the steps for like 6 routines. Getting lost backstage and having to sometimes change in front of other people naked when someone stole your nude leotard for under the costumes and try to make it look as easy as watching Netflix
True! I remember once when I was performing on stage in my mind I was like “How much longer do I have to do his until I’m done the dance?!”
Then hats off to you ma'am!
Wait so u go to SAB??
Thank you for posting this. My Autistic daughter is currently obsessed with the Nutcracker but I don't think she can handle a live performance yet.
Aww :). Ballet is truly amazing and I hope your daughter gets to see a live performance one day!
thank you!
There are many opportunities to see the various iterations of this ballet online this year due to the pandemic. My favorite is the 1980s version with Baryshnikov and Kirland that was created for television. Gorgeous! Look to see where it is currently streaming, Hope you have a great holiday!
Wonderful therapy for her. Encourage her to dance and if Santa is able, maybe a nutcracker doll of her very own.

Ok but can we just take a moment to appreciate all the minor characters in this? Like the dolls that Droselmyer had? Those guys killed it!
Yes!! I am a ballet student and I am a doll in my studio’s nutcracker this year. It’s difficult and very fun, and I am really thankful for people like you who take time to appreciate those smaller roles!

This is my very first time seeing the Nutcracker at 28 years old. My only regret is waiting so long! Truly an amazing story that has me believing in Christmas again.
My daughter just turned 29 and it has been our tradition since she was 8. We went the first time as part of a school group and we try to go every year, as part of her Dec 11th birthday as well as Christmas. Now that you know how wonderful it is, make it a tradition for yourself and any other young people in your life. Expose them to the Magic... You won't regret it! Welcome to the Nutcracker World!
I'm 27 but will be 28 when I first see the Nutcracker as well here in November of 2022! We're on the same boat her Alexandra hahaha
this is not a very good version to start with; it is abrupt and changes a lot of the plot from the get go. Do yourself a favour...watch Balinchines version with Mickael Baryshnikov and Gelsie Kirkland,,,now that's the Nutcracker!
Am 42 just seeing it for the first time . Amazing show
@@lisawentworth6831 , по моему мнению , щелкунчик , это волшебство , сказка , и этот балет должен быть сугубо детским .... Дети должны играть . Мне больше по душе , когда участники все дети

Tchaikovsky thinking that he failed this ballet brings me tears because I haven't heard anything better than this in my whole life. I guess all of the great artists in the literary, art, and music world have had the tendency to think they're a failure.
They, and only they, can compare what they imagined with what turned out. Yes, it’s frustrating.
I often wonder what tchaikovsky would have thought had he known it would be one of his most famous works 100 years later!?
I wish lil kim felt that way
@@leegnichols7501When he conducted the suite from The Nutcracker, it was an immediate success. Tchaikovsky was jubilant.
Watch the Dresden production of The Nutcracker. Absolutely the best!
Surely I'm not the only one that is extremely satisfied with the sound of the pointe shoes tapping on the stage, right?
Disappointed would be a better word. Beat your shoes, dancers.
I found it distracting.
I want to listen to the soundtrack but it needs to have the tapping too
I think people of 19 century wouldn't be distracted by it, because they could see only live performances, once... We see it every day repeated in videos. They would be distracted only by commercials interrupting the performance.
You’re right, it is extremely calming to hear in the background. It adds to the authenticity, in a way! :D
it's so cool to see people doing a full ballet of the timeless classic Barbie in the nutcracker! I hope they do Barbie in swan lake next! 🥰 We all know where Tchaikovsky got his inspo
Sweet love barbie got it from the ballet.
@beccathebee Are you sure? lol
U better be joking
So true!! but I dunno the barbie movie is a classic and no remake is better
@notlurking You have to be kidding me, Barbie movie? The nutcracker was written over a hundred years ago by Tchaikovsky, Barbie movie is inspired from the Ballet, not the opposite
The kid who played Marie's brother / the Prince deserves more recognition. He was phenomenal.
I thought the same thing! I know little about ballet or dancing, but he totally caught my attention. I guess he's just "charismatic" to try to put a word on it.
Not really sure the same person danced these two parts. Despite the video description I feel like the one who played Marie’s brother was dancing the chinese doll man
The stage, The lights, The sound of music that fills the ears, The gracefulness. Dancing is truely beautiful.
I did ballet for 10 years and did 4 Nutcrackers (all Balanchine yet very memorable for me). Here is some commentary I have:
-The Russian dance was the best I have ever seen, like they were in time, the choreography went with the timing, everyone was clapping to the beat, it was really fun to watch them.
-I love the fact that Marie is played by a young adult and does the Sugarplum Fairy variation. Her expressions and acting were amazing!
-props to whoever played Drosselmeier, dancing with a long cape is hard! Also loved his acting and expressions. His movements were sharp and clean.
however, it felt like 50
@@missfeliss3628 yeah that's the biggest pet peeve with this company. I hate it when three different groups are on different sides of the stage doing different choreography, it's distracting to me.
I bet you wasn’t very good . 10 years is no time in ballet to be performing the nutcracker
Brisbane Australia is whereI saw the best
Nothing beats the classically trained russian ballet version of The Nutcracker
If you came here just for the famous songs, they're in: 57:27 (Trepak, russian dance), 58:46 (Dance of the Reed-flutes), 1:03:57 (The waltz of the flowers), and 1:16:14 (Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy)
Thank you!
Thank you
As a classical musician, I am seriously triggered and need to tell you...
THEY’RE HOT SONGS, THEY’RE PIECES.
Ugh, what happened to the COFFEE dancers, that piece of music is so beautiful and definitely a huge part of the NUTCRACKER. Very strange and extremely disappointed. Am I the only person who noticed that?
The piece at 1.09.45, Pas de Deux. Andante maestoso is equally famous in my view.
I had this on in the background while doing school work
Now it is school work for me

I'm 10 when I grow up I'm going to be a professional ballerina
I'm now 11
Reach for your dreams!! I’m 12 and I’m performing The Nutcracker, my goal is also to be a professional but it takes a lot of hard work I know you can do it!!
Same! I’m 13
I’m thirteen and I’m taller than the other girls so I cant do pas but this year I’m Clara cause there’s no pas. Reach for your dreams long and hard enough and you will get them
I did ballet when I was 9-10 then had to quit because it was too expensive, but now I'm 13 and starting ballet again. I was in russian when I was 10 and now I am able to do it again!
Follow your dreams! I do ballet and this year for my studios nutcracker I’m in family scene, battle scene and candy canes! If I can do all 3 at my age, you can do anything! 💗
I did nutcracker every year when i was little. Its so nostalgic everytime i hear the music or see a show

Lucky you! What a treat 🥰

me too! I was a party guest for 2 years) angel for 1 year, polichinelle/clown kid that comes out of mother ginger (but we didn't have a mother ginger) for a year.
One year when I did the Nutcracker, I remember being in the green room during the snowflake waltz. The music was approaching 43:20, when the vocalists join the orchestra, and it's supposed to be really a gorgeous part.
Instead, the first person who started singing had started an octave lower than they were supposed to, and everyone else had no choice but to follow along. Which may not sound like a big deal. But instead of this ethereal, angelic sound, like falling snow, we got something weird and manly sounding, kind of like if you picture a grown man in a ballerina outfit.
Everyone in the room literally looked up from what they were doing at the same time, with the same expression of disbelief. I think the director was also there, horrified, but also on the verge of laughter.
good stuff
😂 lol
Wish I could hear what that sounded like lol
Oh my gosh. 😨😨😨😨

From when I was a little girl until now, an older woman, this was my birthday present. First from my parents and then from my children. I have such wonderful memories that come back every single time I hear even a few notes of this absolutely beautiful music.
The background picture of all the spruce trees covered in snow is just so beautiful.
I love this Russian production of the Nutcracker. There is something different about it that makes me want to be there in person. Yes, I would travel to Russia to see this.
That would be on my bucket list too and I will go in the future
I've always loved Christmas but when I watched the nut cracker ballet it just came a live for me .Christmas and the ballet nut cracker go together. AMEN 🙏
This would've been an outstanding performance! I've seen the Russian Ballet perform The Nutcracker live and it's mesmerizing.
It is i saw it too when it was on tour in Germany the performance was so breathtaking i watch the nutcracker every Christmas it is a tradition the company in my hometown is doing it every Christmas well not this year but i have a dvd of the nutcracker so the tradition still goes on but how i wish i could see the russian ballet again
I’m jealous
I wish also to see the Russian Balletts again. At last it was 2011 in munich germany. I dreamed day after day of this wonderful event.
Greatest ballett of the world in my opinion. Love It so much ❤ there was also Schwanensee at this time ❤
the nutcracker has always been a huge part of my life because I preformed in it when I was younger and it was my first big performance. recently, I have been getting into ballet and seeing this makes my jaw drop because those were what the older kids were doing when I was younger and I looked up to them. thank you for this
I just cant watch this peacefully when there is an Ad every 2.5 minutes. its too much.
That is why I use adblock, and when they want me to turn if off i just go!

Kudos to all the dancers and musicians! They did this performance beautifully but I've watched The Nutcracker every year by different directors each time and this is the most chaotic thing I've ever seen. I watched it with my friend who had never seen it and they didn't get it at all.
yeah i def agree if you dont know the storyline by heart you can get crazy lost with this one
Imagine how long it would’ve taken them to do this and MEMORIZE ALL OF IT
Dunno if anyone's gonna see this but, I've just been chosen as Clara!!! I hope to be a professional dancer when I grow up 😀

as a ballerina I can truly say this is amazing how good they are
This is by far, the best rendition. They actually let Clara and The Prince meet at the end! No other Theatre did this. Thanks to Barbie, i came to know of the story and really wanted to see the ballet when i grow up. i'm 30, and thanks to the internet, i can finally see the magic with my own eyes~ i'm so happy to see that! Brava~! Wonderful presentation~! Love, from Egypt~ ♥
to me, the 'nutcracker prince' at the end 1:25:18 seems a bit like fritz, but it may just be because the same guy does both characters. but the clothing looks like fritz as well, so i wouldn't say for sure...
Marie and the Prince meeting again at the end of the story is actually accurate to the original book (yes, it was a book before it was a ballet, and yes, the protagonist's original name is indeed Marie). It's a very delightful read, with a lot of stuff that none of the ballet versions include, such as an entire backstory for the Nutcracker that Drosselmeyer tells to Marie as a bedtime story, which turns out to be true.
@@crunchybubblewrap not really sure the same person played the two parts, despite the video description. I feel like the one dancing Marie’s brother was dancing the chinese doll man
@@crunchybubblewrap The guy who played The Prince throughout the play, was the same guy that showed up at the end. It seems like indeed they showed Fritz. Either way, that was so good on them to show that. :)
@@curtthegamer934 Thank you so much for the background info! Actually, all i know of this, comes from Barbie, and that story made it so that the Nutcracker's story indeed turned out to be true! i'm glad that, that's the original version! Makes this, that much more special now! :)
If anyone’s looking for “March of the Toy Soldiers,” it starts at 5:29
i came for dance of the sugar plum fairy
This is a lovely and sweet production. I don't understand the thumbs down ratings. The scenery, especially for the snow scenes, is some of the prettiest I have seen (and I have seen many productions and am a dancer). The costumes are pretty and creative without being overly fussy. The dancing is excellent. And, the orchestration is excellent. This is a sweet and enjoyable performance. Thank you for this enjoyable production.
It's my first time seeing it so I don't actually have any knowledge to back this but ITS PERFECT 🤩
I remember going to a performance of The Nutcracker with my mother a long time ago. It's a shame I had little interest in the subject matter because of my immature mind. Reflecting on it all these years later, I cherish that I at least get to watch it on RUclips. Thank you, Russian State Ballet and Opera House for reminding me of memories I had surely forgotten.
reminds me of my old ballet instructor version. several years doing this always bring tear to my eyes. mouse king forever!

You should watch Find Me In Paris on Hulu it’s a great show

It is simple beautiful,
I have seen this soo many times in different years and different performance and I just love it! Just like the first time.
Glad you like it!
I’ve been in the nutcracker multiple times and the amount of dedication is incredible.
I missed dancing. Nutcracker is one of the best performances I ever saw.
Wonderful! Fantastic! Superb! Especially the ballarina playing Marie- a knockout performance. In my mind's eye I can see Tchaikovsky on the other side applauding with a big 😊 smile!
Im gonna go see the nutcracker in sunday (december 19th 2021) in my city, im so excited!!
How could the director cut off one of the most impressive dances - the Coffee (Arabian) Dance?????
idk its the same thing as clara being really old
It's my favourite part of the Nutcracker and I was thinking the very same thing. 😟
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that noticed!!!
I just commented the same haha
Oh goodness, now I feel quite sad before watching. In my dance studios traveling modified nutcracker (performed for nursing homes and children’s hospitals!) I played the Coffee :(.
I think it may be due to the fact that Arabian can be regarded as culturally insensitive to people who are actually Arabian if it is done by white dancers.
I’m in the nutcracker this year, stunning performance! It’s way harder than it looks.
I love "The Nutcracker" and all, but every single time I watch it my ankles start to hurt like crazy!!! Still love it though:)
lol that is funny
I'm still a healthy young woman it all it takes is for me to use one foot to scratch the other and I start cramping up🤣
Lol same honestly
🎄♥ It's Christmas eve, and i watched this beautiful performance! This is my favourite ballet of them all because:
✅ They showed Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy as the same person, thereby keeping the magic.
✅They show that Clara and the Prince meet for real at the end and that's the real happy ending that makes this so magical.
✅The staging and lighting is so beautiful and i love the atmosphere it creates! It's delightful~!
Yes, there are some main things missing, for example, They don't show the dungeon scene, the final fight scene and the Arabian dance scene. The dance, at some points, were a bit askew (but i can't complain on that since i'm not a ballet dancer, i'm merely a spectator).
But still, this is the best imo, simply because of the magic a and the feel good energy it gave. The ending is very important to me and they delivered. And that's all i need. Thank you, and Merry Christmas!🎄♥
what's the timestamp when the sugar plum fairy shows up?
In the productions I have seen live, they have maracas in the Spanish dance scene. I missed them in this presentation.
They are the superior Alchemists of this masterpiece‘s ballet.
The greatness of this masterpiece‘s ballet is far superior, and off the charts, and unfathomable, and full of tribute and emotion.
A really good nutcracker means Christmas to me. Nostalgic.
This is actually the first time I've seen the Nutcracker and now I am obsessed. I think I've watched four different versions, this one twice! I avoided it because I'm not big on Christmas, but I know and love the songs from Fantasia, wow I have been missing out! I hope to see a live performance in time for next Xmas! Thank you for sharing
It was always my favorite story as a kid. My dad took me to this ballet when I was really young and I can't remember if he did so because I loved it or if I loved it because he did so. I recently returned to it, reading it to my son who's nine. It's a trip to go back and see how things you barely remember in any detail clearly influenced you your whole life. Glad you came around to this story. If you have little ones they'll probably enjoy it too. I like to think of the Nutcracker as a more cultured Alice in Wonderland 😜
@Elsie Doomhammer I am happily child free but I have a niece who loves dance, I take her to a performance every year for her birthday present so I hope she will accompany me to the Nutcracker 🥰 We never had the money to go to things like this when I was growing up, so I like to take her to live performances whenever I can 💞
i tried on pointe shoes once because i am in dance just not ballet. oh my god. let me tell you. to even get yourself on your toes is a struggle. pure insanity that they can dance around and make it look like gravity doesn't exist because oh my goodness when i tell you how hard it was
@BUMO LIN theres a box at the front to help with balance and pain but your toes still feel it
Did you get your teachers approval saying that your ready and even if you did if they’re still really hard to just eleve walk around your home in them to break them in
Haha yeah. It’s easier when you have had years of practice preparing for pointe though. Still hurts a lot though
They have a shit ton of experience, of course it’s still work even for them, but they have it a lot easier too
So pure! This performance, touches a chord deep within the human soul takes my breath away every time. I only wish I was really there to see it in Russia! Bravo Bravo! So wonderful! Bravo Bravo! Christmas Eve 2021Canada.
Utterly mesmerized. Only one of the most briilliant ballets in the world
This was a total delight to watch. It's so unfortunate that this year we can't see such performance in person but most unfortunate are the performers who struggle because they can't perform. Be safe.

Does anyone in the US remember Battle of the Nutcracker? They showed it during Christmas and it was various performances by ballet groups around the world. I don't remember the year. It was maybe around 2010? I remember really liking Russia and France's performances
so happy this is watchable on youtube! I saw the nutcracker done elsewhere and it's so cool to watch and note all the differences. really stunning.
I used to work in a venue that had this ballet run there for about two months every year. sometimes my shift just involved being stationed at a door in house left that led to backstage, so I saw the nutcracker upwards of 20 times in person for two years in a row. and you know what? I never really got sick of it. It just made me love ballet :)

Beautiful. Have seen many versions of The Nutcracker....this was lovely to see...and the music, as always....perfection!
i really loved the doll variation and the costumes it made me so happy to see it
I watched this video today on our big smart TV while decorating the tree :-)
i feel like sharing tonight so,
i used to go to see the nutcracker with my birth mother every year. it was one of the only times she was nice to me, we didn’t fight and she didn’t make me feel like shit about myself. we haven’t been in over five years, first because of money issues but after a year it was because i couldn’t have her in my life anymore. it’s been almost three years since i last saw her, she isn’t apart of my life anymore, and it’s better this way but, i miss going every year. i miss going as a child, dressing up in a fancy velvet dress and mini heels, i miss walking into the theater so excited for the performance to start, i miss my innocence, my happiness, and i miss my mother. but she cannot be in my life, she’s toxic and terrible to me. this was so comforting to watch.
Oh man :( I’m so sorry for you- still, I hope you are leading a happy life and are able to form new good memories as it goes forward
@@amiigoesmuu thank you, lovely. i appreciate you taking the time to say that to me.

What a lovely production! I get emotional during the Pas de Deux ever single time. Cannot be helped.

Making the insanely difficult look incredibly effortless. BRAVO!
Thank you for posting this beautiful production. With all the theaters closed, I watched this on Christmas Day with my family. I had previously only watched the Balanchine version, so this was a very authentic and charming experience!
This makes me miss performing . Im really hoping next year i can.
Same my show was yesterday it took me almost two months to practice you really need hard work and motivation to do the show thank you for saying that because no one understands how hard it is, also ballet is hard
We LOVE this also. It is MAGNIFICENT.
