Fascinating study in the variety of the various ballerina costumed-skirt length styles. (1) full length to floor covering foot. (2) mid knee “romantic skirt”. (3) soloist “pancake tutu” - supported-hoop frame by wire at waist bodice. (4) the American Tutu - which was created by the Russian courtier Barbara Karinska for Balanchine (choreographer-New York City Lincoln Center Ballet) - skirt without wire, skirt spread by various-layered sheer fabrics at the waist-bodice.

Tchaikovsky began composing in 1888 - orchestrating in May, 1889 - first performance in St. Petersburg on January 8, 1890. His second ballet score - the first was Swan Lake - Sleeping Beauty score/ballet - with intermissions - is nearly 3 hours…!
The score read is 160 minutes in length. Tchaikovsky died in 1893 - never knowing his ballet has become his most popular work - with the Nutcracker…!

It is not unusual for Carabosse (the name of the evil fairy in the ballet) to be played by a man.
There are some versions - like the Royal ballet - where she's played by a woman (made up to look young) and sometimes versions where the dancer is completely made up to look very old. There are tons of different interpretations of her, you should definitely check some out.

This is some of the most brilliant choreography for a classical ballet revision I’ve ever seen. It’s absolutely incredible! Especially the fairy Choreography. I really believed these dancers were fairies. Any trained dancer would understand how much more difficult this choreography is. To make the character come to life and for the choreography to flow in such and effortless way throughout is just spectacular. I wish I could dance this version personally it looks so fun! Huge fan! 😊

As someone who was introduced to the music through the Disney animated version, i must say this is splendid! Although I did expect a more exciting fight between the Prince and Carabosse. On the level of the Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Oh well. I'm just here for the sake of watching fine culture.

    • @LeaF-vo2mx
      @LeaF-vo2mx Месяц назад +1

You're looking at it from the wrong direction. In the original fairytale, the prince comes to a "dead" castle 100 years later. He never meets the evil fairy and there is no fight whatsoever. Just because Disney decided to add a fight for Drama and entertainment (and dont get me wrong, Disney's Prince Philip fight is one of my favorite scenes in all of film), doesnt mean that it's to be expected here.

This was a good production, and great costumes. I loved seeing a new(version to me) of this classic ballet, and I love seeing elements of the standard version.

Imagine doing the scene of the king and the queen dancing with the boy you like, I have to do this with a boy at a dance school, thank god he’s not the boy I like

Can anyone point (haha) me to the version Marcia Haydee set that uses the Petipa choreography? Iana is stunning, as always, but the choreography and deconstructed sets all seem very flat to me. There are some things Petipa set like the White Swan and the Rose Adagio that just...no, don't mess with them. And I realize I'm in the minority here...

@@stellamarishansen3317 Have you seen her 2nd act variation? Choreography is very non-Petipa, almost minimalistic but she still makes it look impressive because she's such a great dancer.

@@minissa2009 Si lo he visto, me pareció excelente.

(gracias, Google Translate!). The scenery seems very flat, and I remember the White Cat (and maybe Puss in Boots) being costumed with bike shorts. So, not just the choreography. Everything seemed very 2-dimensional. Have you seen the reconstruction of Petipa's original choreography done for I think Bolshoi (might have been Mariinsky, Obravstova was Aurora). There must be 500 people in the cast (small exagerration) but it was fascinating to see how Petipa used the music and moved people around the stage.

@@minissa2009 Hola si he visto esa.

It amazes me how negative and critical people can be regarding something so spectacular.
I love this. But maybe I’m not well cultured enough yet to think everything is not good enough ;)
