Fascinating study in the variety of the various ballerina costumed-skirt length styles. (1) full length to floor covering foot. (2) mid knee “romantic skirt”. (3) soloist “pancake tutu” - supported-hoop frame by wire at waist bodice. (4) the American Tutu - which was created by the Russian courtier Barbara Karinska for Balanchine (choreographer-New York City Lincoln Center Ballet) - skirt without wire, skirt spread by various-layered sheer fabrics at the waist-bodice.
In Sleeping Beauty, the difference in the costume style is used to show that there had been 100 years since Aurora, her parents, and the rest of the people fell asleep.

@@stellamarishansen3317 Have you seen her 2nd act variation? Choreography is very non-Petipa, almost minimalistic but she still makes it look impressive because she's such a great dancer.
@@minissa2009 Si lo he visto, me pareció excelente.
(gracias, Google Translate!). The scenery seems very flat, and I remember the White Cat (and maybe Puss in Boots) being costumed with bike shorts. So, not just the choreography. Everything seemed very 2-dimensional. Have you seen the reconstruction of Petipa's original choreography done for I think Bolshoi (might have been Mariinsky, Obravstova was Aurora). There must be 500 people in the cast (small exagerration) but it was fascinating to see how Petipa used the music and moved people around the stage.
@@minissa2009 Hola si he visto esa.

20:17 Oh my. Now *that* is an entrance
Super
This is an extraordinary production! Wonderful choreography and costumes. The dancers are also beautiful. Bravo!!
Who is the choreographer?
Natcho duato
thanks a lot for sharing! May I ask when is this performance?
2015
@@daverollins Thank you so much!

why did they skip the roses in the rose adage?
13:35 I LOVEE THIS PART MY BALLET TEACHER USES THIS PART OF THE MUSIC FOR PEKAES ( IDK FRENCH)
It amazes me how negative and critical people can be regarding something so spectacular.
I love this. But maybe I’m not well cultured enough yet to think everything is not good enough ;)
