    Little River Band was one first bands from Australia to have string of hits constantly in USA late 70s early 80s .. Sadly the band had a lot infighting between members that lead to revolving door of members .
    This song was originally sang and written by LRB’s original first lead singer Glenn Shorrock.
    LRB had 3 primary songwriters by the early 80s they fighting on who got most song recorded. So original member Graham Goble who wrote most of songs and produced for John Farnham 1980 album Uncovered was totally showcase for Graham Globe’s songs Uncovered featured Please Don’t Ask Me .
    Graham Goble was writing song to high for Glenn Shorrock to sing after writing for John Farnham. LRB and John Farnham was under the same management with Glenn Wheatley . So after Glenn Shorrock left in 1982 after infighting about he wanted the band take a break from touring and recording for a year , but he was out voted the others wanted to continue . So John Farnham was hired . John Farnham career in late 70’s was little more reduced occasional television appearances and playing to suburban clubs . In 1980 with LRB influence solo album and his reworking of Help the Beatles cover John Farnham was starting to get a more mature style and serious in his career . Unfortunately at that time LRB with John Farnham didn’t gel well with diehard LRB fans that was in shock that Shorrock was gone . That feeling also was felt with recording company Capital Records in USA . John Farnham had few LRB hits Down On Border in Australia was the bands 3rd biggest selling single peaking 7 on Australian charts .
    The Other Guy , We Two , You’re Driving Me Out Of My Mind was all billboard hits in USA . In 1984 with 2 other original members leaving the over the musical direction into more new wave rock away from the Harmony rock that made LRB famous. John Farnham was also contributing his own songs like Playing To Win and Blind Eyes hopefully he make some income with royalties because the songwriters was only members past and present getting paid . LRB was heavily in debt from expensive American tours . After John Farnham recorded No Reins 1986 LRB’s most underrated album , their recording contract with Capital Records was over John Farnham was straight away working on an new solo album which was Whispering Jack . After a small tour in early 1986 John Farnham left LRB . By 1987 John Farnham solo successful again back on the top of Australian charts. LRB was in limbo for awhile until Glenn Shorrock returned with a new recording deal MCA in 1988 sadly USA listeners had moved on . revolving members continued unfortunately there’s now no original members and no Australian member in current LRB line up the band is based in Nashville not Melbourne like it originally was . The current version of LRB aren’t received well in Australia they regarded as a cover
    tribute band .

    HAHA yes he did need a cool change. Whoever was choosing his wardrobe back then obviously forgot to take into consideration how much he perspired while performing. SILK definately not the best option.
    LRB was a little ho hum for me before John joined them. He added a spark of life to the band. Others will disagree but to me his voice added just a little something extra with those higher notes, rasp, breaks and vocal runs.
    No Southern sons in this band. Wayne Nelson is your guy with the cool side hair. And David Hershfelder on keys, both followed John from LRB and became members of The Farnham Band for a while before moving on.

    I heard you say some Southern Sons members were in this. I don't think any Southern Sons members would be in this. I assume this is early 80's. Southern Sons was some band in middle 90's, I think so those people would be too young for Little River Band. I've seen Jack Jones in John Farham's band in some footage from later 90's maybe. I think he was lead singer of Southern Sons. He actually is playing in a re-formed Noiseworks, which could not re-form with their original guitarist as he passed away so somehow he is part of the new set-up. All the other members of Noiseworks. For some reason he has a different name to Jack Jones. Do not know his name but saw the new song and video from Noiseworks in recent weeks and cracker of a song. Little River Band is before my time. Never heard this version before. Must admit prefer the original lead singer with it as sounds classic from sometime in mid 70's.
    If you like some good rock music Noiseworks worth checking out in your own time. They were an excellent Aussie rock band from late 80's to early 90's. I think I saw then live maybe six times.

    • @kane29842
      @kane29842 Год назад

      His name is Irwin Thomas. Jack Jones was his stage name for awhile. Stuart Fraser is the Noiseworks guitarist that passed. Stuart also did a stint playing for John Farnham (you can hear him playing with Brett Garsed on John's cover of Black Dog) Jack started Southern Sons with Phil Buckle, another guitarist that had played with Farnham. Wayne Nelson who plays bass here for the LRB followed John to his solo career.
      His band has been stacked with talent since the beginning. Why wouldn't you want to play your best wt for him.

    I much prefer the original version with Glenn Shorrock singing, it is his song as he wrote it. To me the harmonies are so much better in the original.
