Tyler Evans The only thing I can think of is that they’re the first character to use a spear. Which is kinda insane that a game series about weapon triangles took until the 6th (or 8 if you count echoes) character to include a spear and an axe in their moveset
I respect that even though you really weren't excited at all about Steve, you're still giving him a fair chance. And that's something I wish more people would do.
Yeah, I've never played Minecraft either, but he looks really fun and unique. I ended up really liking Min Min despite knowing nothing about ARMS; nothing wrong with trying a character from a franchise you have no interest in
Max wasn't paying attention this was ridiculously over the top. Reworking every stage, coming up with like 10 new mechanics that no other character has anything close to.
Honestly, Minecraft is a fantastic move on Nintendo to put in the game, despite what anyone says. It is one of the widely known game on the planet with the broadest appeal for all ages, and the concept is fresh instead of "another character associated with fighting." The Minecraft scene in Japan is also blowing up thank to all the V-Tubers streaming the game, so the time couldn't be anymore ripe.
It's impressive how much love they put into everything smash related All characters have so much to them I hope they continue as much as they can without compromising health
So what I get from this is Steve, a character from a game with the simplest learning curve out there, has probably one of the harder learning curve in terms of moves.
One thing I like most about the Mii Fighter costume trailers is the references they pack in. With Travis, for instance: - Breaking through the front door of Townshend Mansion in NMH's intro - Death Metal and Skelter Helter, the first bosses of NMH and NMH2 respectively (Fourside being the rooftop where Skelter Helter is fought, as well as Helter Skelter in NMH's first trailer) - Maybe Golden Dragon GP from Travis Strikes Again
I was sad seeing Travis as a mii. I mean No More Hero's was most popular on the Wii...and I think the sequel was ONLY for the wii I believe...and the company was mainly hopping on Nintendo....sooo I honestly thought they were gonna give him a shot...oh well.
Not to mention Suda 51 being buds with Sakurai and constantly talking with him and bugging him about getting Travis in. I wager this happened mainly to shut him up lol NMH3 will probably have Travis whining about the exact reasons he was rejected
@@megamegaO I can just see Slyvia talking to Travis like. "You zink people would be excited for you? You are just a zimple anime swordsman... Fighters like you are a dime a dozen." Then Suda puts in a level where Travis cant attack enemies unless he eats a lot of Hamburgers or some other really annoying mechanic while going "this is it... This is the unique mechanic I need to bring something new to the table!"
8:37 I like how he didn't say Sonic, because even after 10 years, Sonic has little to no faithful representation and is just barely in the game as a semi functional character. He still has 2 spin dashes, the complete wrong play style and no where near as much attention as any 3rd party from Smash 4 onwards got. Especially if they were DLC. Even Snake got it far better when he was added to Brawl, and I get thats because Sonic was a last second addition, but its been 10 fucking years since he was added and the only improvements he's got is /slightly/ fewer spinning moves and the reticle on homing attack from more modern Sonic games. Most of his moveset is still borrowed from other fighters, he still has two spin dashes, he still has way way way less attention to detail and love as any other 3rd party or DLC character gets.
When I saw Steve made in: "thats dumb but whatever...." When I saw Travis was only a Mii costume: *Crying in the corner while eating Heathbar ice cream*

Kazuya has a second Rage Mode on top of the standard rage Sora has his spells If more DLC was ever announced take Goku for an example He'd have standard moves, he'd have the Kamehameha special move, Ki blast spam, and a uppercut move 3 second Flying for recovery A Ki Gauge, A special command to charge Final smash can be a transformation or super Kamehameha

Steve and Alex are technically not actually characters. They are just default male/female skins that you start the game with until you choose to upload your own custom skin.
That's actually why I dislike Monster Hunter in MvCI. She absolutely should not be doing that shit since nobody speaks English in Monster Hunter and it's so jarring.
The most mind-blowing thing that always hits me about Smash is that if you're good at the game a character comes from, you'll generally be better at playing that character right off the bat. Like they bring their own reality spheres with them.

Going off the detail tangent, there's also Joker where they basically made the AESTHETIC the stage & even made it match the aesthetic of Persona 3 or 4 if you play those songs during the match, the Arsene meter is the same color as the HP/SP bars depending on if Arsene is out or not, or how if you land the final blow with the final smash it shows the results on the splash screen just like when you finish a battle with an All-Out Attack in Persona 5 proper. Steve's trolling potential is off the charts, and the accurate character design goes a long way towards that. Never has watching someone eat a steak made me so peeved.
And even with the basic-ass graphics it was still hard for some PCs to run it back in the day. I remember someone asking on a forum why their laptop couldn't run a game that "looks this bad" and people had to explain that there are literally hundreds if not thousands of individual, interactable blocks loaded at any one time. If all those blocks were natively hi-res, people with older crappier computers would've had an even harder time running it.

Yeah, the first Persona is from 1996 on the PS1. If we are talking about just Joker and Persona 5 then the year is 2016, in a sense like a lot of JRPGs’ new entries tend to don’t have direct connections with the past games, have new main characters or even be set on a different world (like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Tales of, Xenoblade, etc.) Minecraft was released on 2011 but the public alpha was around since 2009.

So since Brawl and more so Smash 4 going into Ultimate, edge-gaurding has been downplayed to simmer down that competitive element of the game for casuals’ sake. Except for Steve. Who has a Brawl Metaknight glide. Who can literally wall opponents off from making recoveries onstage, or make platforms offstage to edge guard with his while moveset while standing on a block. And depending on how mine carts work or if TNT can be used like snake’s c4 boosts, his recovery probably isn’t trash. His neutral and tools for creating distance with aggressive opponents might suck though. But similar to Hero, I think Steve stands good chances of being a polarizing character. And Hero is by no means the best in the game-but man does his design competitive-wise suck pretty bad. Hopefully Steve is not that level of jank.

I think B&K beat them out here. Still fairly normal. However, their side b is invincible and is limited to five per stock, and their neutral b puts them in a special gatling gun state if you hold the button down. Still nothing crazy, but that's two new kinds of moves to Byleth's one.
Of course, in terms of unique mechanics, the other DLC characters blow them both out of the water.
Tyler Evans The only thing I can think of is that they’re the first character to use a spear. Which is kinda insane that a game series about weapon triangles took until the 6th (or 8 if you count echoes) character to include a spear and an axe in their moveset
They out did themselves this time by taking a character and literally making them into the gotem ggs meme

Honestly, Minecraft is a fantastic move on Nintendo to put in the game, despite what anyone says.
It is one of the widely known game on the planet with the broadest appeal for all ages, and the concept is fresh instead of "another character associated with fighting."

God I wish sonic was true for this
I think Steve is in a league of his own in that regard.
So what I get from this is Steve, a character from a game with the simplest learning curve out there, has probably one of the harder learning curve in terms of moves.
One thing I like most about the Mii Fighter costume trailers is the references they pack in. With Travis, for instance:
- Breaking through the front door of Townshend Mansion in NMH's intro
- Death Metal and Skelter Helter, the first bosses of NMH and NMH2 respectively (Fourside being the rooftop where Skelter Helter is fought, as well as Helter Skelter in NMH's first trailer)
- Maybe Golden Dragon GP from Travis Strikes Again
Peoples: Steve has worse recovery and air game than Little Mac!
Steve: bloc
I'm disappointed nobody has clipped those soundbites of Max saying Steve's attacks and made a mod of them for Max to see
I was sad seeing Travis as a mii.
I wager this happened mainly to shut him up lol
NMH3 will probably have Travis whining about the exact reasons he was rejected
@@colmecolwag That'd be a nice little joke lol
@@megamegaO I can just see Slyvia talking to Travis like. "You zink people would be excited for you? You are just a zimple anime swordsman... Fighters like you are a dime a dozen."

Honestly, a Mii costume is more than what I was expecting.
He's just standing there, Menacingly!

Kazuya has a second Rage Mode on top of the standard rage
Sora has his spells
If more DLC was ever announced take Goku for an example
He'd have standard moves, he'd have the Kamehameha special move, Ki blast spam, and a uppercut move
3 second Flying for recovery
A Ki Gauge, A special command to charge
Final smash can be a transformation or super Kamehameha
@@VoidJWKDDOUS goku is highly unlikely, sakurai has made it clear he just wants to add characters that started as videogame characters, plust quite frankly is lazy, heck I would love to sakurai to come back to it's roots and simply use obscure characters, is what has literally revive franchises like fire emblem and kid ikarus TBH, why bother with manga/anime characters when there's a pletora of videogames to choose from, getting outside video games (and no, the fact there's dragon ball videogames does not count) would honestly mess to what Smash bros has become, a celebration of videgame history, it has become so big the DLC announcements for smash get celebrated by people doesn't even own nintendo consoles, if they move to manga/anime it will open the floodgates to other media: comics, books, movies, tv shows, it really won't be special anymore, just a pop media sloppy mix.

*He’s top tier.*
Might be a little late but Minecraft isn't fully trying to look retro, instead its closer to "programmer art". Its what happens when your programmer (or the only dev) doesn't know how to make good looking things. "Loading textures? its easy if its only 16x16 pixels". "World generation? Every meter will be represented in the computer but one value so 1 will be stone and 2 will be dirt". Its function over form

The amount of attention to detail they put in Steve's moveset and how he plays shows the dedication and respect they gave the character.
And yes, Smash ultimate is a goofy game. That's the point of the game design of appealing to everyone.
Steve and Alex are technically not actually characters. They are just default male/female skins that you start the game with until you choose to upload your own custom skin.

The most mind-blowing thing that always hits me about Smash is that if you're good at the game a character comes from, you'll generally be better at playing that character right off the bat. Like they bring their own reality spheres with them.
I don't think this will ever not look wrong. There's just something about the Steve being emotionless / emote-less that makes him more unsettling than Villager with an ax.

Minecraft isnt really designed to look old, its just a game designed around being simple
Yeah, the first Persona is from 1996 on the PS1. If we are talking about just Joker and Persona 5 then the year is 2016, in a sense like a lot of JRPGs’ new entries tend to don’t have direct connections with the past games, have new main characters or even be set on a different world (like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Tales of, Xenoblade, etc.)

As a technical player of Minecraft, Steve looks like fun to play with. I'm glad that redstone is sorta mentioned in his moveset. It would be a refreshment from regular vanilla Minecraft while I still have an interest of the source game.
And imagine block canceling with block breaks while atop and grabbing an opponent. Online Sonic players have competition nowI guess.

Me Yes One can hope. His strengths might even compensate for his weaknesses considerably. His recovery probably isn’t that bad if he can place blocks while moving up. Like, damn. And depending on how mine carts work or if TNT can be used like snake’s c4 boosts, his recovery probably isn’t trash.
His neutral and tools for creating distance with aggressive opponents might suck though. But similar to Hero, I think Steve stands good chances of being a polarizing character.
