A good friend just bought a CX-5 and I've driven it a number of times. It's very impressive and fun to drive. I agree -- the controller knob is actually intuitive.
@@stephenmurray2851 it’s my first Mazda. If it’s as reliable as they say, I’ll be a customer for life. I get you man. I sold my last car and was shopping around and saving for a couple years. Went from a coupe to a family car lol
The fact they don’t try to give you a cvt trans on these is fantastic. (They give you flappy paddles!!) that reason alone makes them worth picking up. Like others here, just went and bought one of these with girlfriend last month and if you are shopping in this category of new vehicles these blow them all out of the water. They’ve been around long enough and are simple enough that it will last forever. For 2024 they give you a wireless touchscreen (when using CarPlay android) something everyone bitched about in every review, but the navigation knob is truly all you need. Also, if you get the Bose sound system, for some reason they are delivered turned all the way down, you have to basically get in the menu to enable it. These are no brainer, quick, no cvt, no hybrid batteries, still has knobs instead of touchscreen iPads everywhere, and the engine has a proven track record of longevity and relative simplicity.
Some people will complain about the fuel consumption of 22 mpg city/27 mpg highway for the CX-5 turbo w/ AWD, but the gas mileage doesn't hurt me at all, since I'm retired, and don't drive as much as I used to. I only have 3400 miles on my 2021 CX-5, so I'm actually saving more money on fuel than most anyone with an EV, or hybrid. Get rid of the turbo and AWD, and you'll get better gas mileage, but who wants to do that? Zoom! Zoom!
I am also retired have a 2023 Turbo don't do more than 6k a year and almost all of it around town. My car has 7k on it and gets around 21.7 mpg using regular which is plenty of power using that gas. I did an hour and a half trip a few weeks ago and averaged 26.4 my wife has a 2019 and that car consistently gets 27.2 somewhere around there around town and on long trips driving at 74 it gets between 31-32 that is a big difference in mileage. When I used to commute 52 miles a day round trip I would not buy the Turbo that is a big difference in mpg and I don't find her car anemic when you drive it. Does the Turbo drive better yes but not enough to justify the MPG difference if I was still commuting but I am not. The good since hers does not have these features, never would I buy another car without the ventilated seats living in Atlanta they are fantastic in the summer, nor could I live without the HUD display which hers does not have and when I drive hers I really miss both especially the HUD. My car has wireless charging which she does not have its a nice feature I have nav so I don't use google maps on the iphone anymore.
I'm retired too, but find myself driving almost the same miles per week. Sometimes more. Golf courses and fishing holes are miles apart, lol. Not impressed at all with the gas milage. My 2014 Chevy Impala 3.6 v-6 with 305hp gets me 30mpg hwy. I'm averaging 24mpg and I have a heavy foot. A six cylinder engine just dont work nearly as hard.
Just picked up this exact same vehicle on Friday. I'm in love. It's awesome. Love the gray with the dark rims and the gloss trim. Beautiful inside and out. I enjoy your thoughtful reviews and footage. Keep it up.
Bought one on New Year's Eve. Wanted red but wife really hates red. Did not want her unhappy every time she pulled into the driveway and saw my car over the next five years, so I took dark crystal blue 42M. Not a deal breaker for me but no one does red like Mazda! Trim colors give the little SUV a sporty, masculine feel. Three most important must have elements for me: 1. Insurance real world safety numbers. How many people have died in this compared to my Mazda3 or a Toyota RAV 4? Side impact tougher test for small SUV. I looked at the death tables, the insurance loss tables, the IIHS info, consumer reports, and NHTSA data. CX-5 is a safer SUV, given its small size disadvantage. It was the only small SUV in a study of 20 small SUVs to pass the tougher, but not enacted, new side impact test in 2021. 2. Acceleration must be wicked good and handling too. Fun to drive factor. CX-5 gets the pass. Larger models not as fun for me. 3. Sound/Music. Physiologically, I'm wired for audio more than visual. My ears get a broadband connection to my brain and emotions. It's different for many people who are more connected to the visual. The vehicle must have loud and accurate player capabilities. The Bose system gets a pass. The 12-speaker Bose in my 2012 was also excellent. This 2024 SUV is the best ride I have ever owned. Gas milage is crap. Stock tires are meh, so I put Michelin sone before getting a second tank of gas. This car makes me smile when I drive it! I love it!
Just bought my first Mazda and love it. I looked and researched for many months and have to say that I can’t get over how much more for your money that you get with Mazda. For example with other brands you only get fake leather even in the top trims while with Mazda you get the real thing and with high quality.

Great review! I have a 2017 Volvo XC60 T6 AWD Turbo / Super Turbo Inscription and this Mazda CX5 AWD is nearly comparable. The price difference and fact the CX5 can run on regular fuel makes it a very good value. I may get one based on your review.
Very nice/ informative/ complete review of this model. Saw a milage and dyno test of the 2.5t (RUclips); the 2.5t CX5 tested performed the best (both power and milage) on 91 premium - better than on 87, 89 and 93/4 all of which were tested. Another technical reviewer believed that the DI related carbon build-up will be less over time on premium vs regular.
But with poor gas mileage as it is, having to buy the most expensive gas in order to not have carbon buildup just makes it an even more expensive SUV to drive. 😢
Using reg. or premium gas will not change anything. Premium is not cleaner, just has a higher octane. You r still mixing air and gas, creating a dirty exhaust that makes its way to the intake thru the valves and poor crankcase ventilation. Using Top Tier brands of gasoline is very important. Port and direct injection is a partial answer as that is what some engines have, including toyotas 2.5

So, none of the new Mazdas have a remote-starter? That’s insane, my 2008 Mazda 3 GT has one…it is imperative to have this in the North East winters. Fail.
Ask your dealer for a quote to have them installed. I got them, plus Mazda Nav which adds info to the Heads Up Display, plus a wireless charging pad for about $600. The NAV SD card can be bought online at Amazon...but I wanted it all under warranty from my Dealer, as Nelson Mazda in Nashville is by far the best Auto Dealer I've ever known. I just got my second oil change and they have not charged me yet! Also, I use premium fuel and full synthetic oil. I use the radar cruise control with stop/go 98% of the time. That has given me 31 mpg overall since I bought it in May...8500 miles. Of course, when I find myself driving in the mountains on a great road, sport mode and a heavy foot results in under 20 mpg...but great fun.
I bought my parking sensors at the dealership, and installed there, after already buying my new 2021 CX-5 CE Turbo w/ AWD. It's definitely a 'must have' item.
Why would you need Km/hr available? Likely due to 99% of countries using that metric over MPH. If you travel… anywhere else…. Hence why in Canada we have ‘thinKMetric’ signs for individuals from the US that go significantly over the posted speed limit.
I just bought one and it's actually pretty quiet at 70 compared to my wife's Camry you can still hear the engine which I like but everything as far as noise is subjective

@@jesselox3470 Thank you for confirming!!
Well done 👍 😊
They look more like 18” rather than 19” wheels
So, none of the new Mazdas have a remote-starter?
That’s insane, my 2008 Mazda 3 GT has one…it is imperative to have this in the North East winters.
Fail.
The turbo does. Do your research clown.
Fail
No parking sensors in this trim level, unfortunately.
Does Hud now show AA and Carplay nav directions now?
Yes to CarPlay.
5:00 thanks
I thought this only comes in two colors as the exterior , unless this is not the carbon turbo but a trim higher than that..
Why would you need Km/hr available? Likely due to 99% of countries using that metric over MPH. If you travel… anywhere else…. Hence why in Canada we have ‘thinKMetric’ signs for individuals from the US that go significantly over the posted speed limit.
Great vehicle, but I wouldn't buy anything with a turbo engine + GDI from any automaker & keep it longer-term, for a variety of reasons.
It is touchscreen with carplay and android auto
360 camera?
You have to get the Turbo Signature for that
Is this better than a Mazda cx 50 turbo? Seems like Mazda cannibalizing itself
Am i the only one who doesn't like the front grill?
I prefer the Chrome grill.
HATE the no touch screen -
So - it is touchscreen - but only in the Apple CarPlay and android auto screens. Kinda silly - but I slipped up by saying it wasn’t touchscreen at all
@@703Speed very odd, not you but the partial touchscreen.. great review though!
I love it
Well, the fuel consumption is just high. Tnx for the review.
🔥💪
Why do you reviewers NEVER show the ease of or difficulty level of the navigation screens? You'll show everything else!!!
Don’t want people knowing my location.. Lol
Subaru Outback XT - More room, more power, nicer interior.
Yes to more room and more power, but I think this has a nicer interior
Subaru is more like a station wagon and less a SUV.
And has a CVT transmission
LOL, compare Cx-5 to Rouge!🤣🤣
CVT= Crappy Vehicle Transmission.
This Is The NICEST "COMPACT" SUV For $40k..
CX5 is not a SUV, CX9/CX90 are
Quiet at 70mph??? Decibel reading??
I did not get to test it at that speed
I just bought one and it's actually pretty quiet at 70 compared to my wife's Camry you can still hear the engine which I like but everything as far as noise is subjective
Hot car and a hot guy 🎉
