    I bought a 22 CX-5 Turbo. I came from a 2003 Forester XS I put 250k miles on. I test drove 22 Forester, and RAV4, all variations. Nothing compared to the driving dynamics, power, and refinement of the CX-5 T. The Outback XT is a better comparison because of the Turbo, but still a CVT. I love the infotainment in my CX-5. No issues. I’m shocked anyone would choose a Forester over this. Maybe if they brought back the Turbo in the Forester and improved the driving dynamics I would consider it again, but not until then.

      Almost an inch and a half more of ground clearance. A better AWD system especially in snow. Significantly more cargo capacity there are plenty of reasons to get a Forrester over a CX5 completely depends where u live and what ur using ur vehicle for.

      Subaru have proven to me to have serious mechanical issues. Not to mention, they are boring and slow. The cx-5 looks MUCH better.

      New Subaru infotainment has proven to be more clumsy than modern and not nearly as convenient as RAV4/CRV/Cx5. Cannot agree more about bringing the turbo back to the Forester, as the 2019-2024 radios before the recent update would have made the Forester much more attractive with the new 2.4l

    That brief acceleration delay went away for me once I switched to high octane fuel.
    Using the infotainment system is absolutely fine. The command dial feels and works great, voice commands for Apple navigation and Apple Music works great.
    I’m a tech idiot yet I had no issues favouriting radio stations. I can now access them using the favourites button and scroll through them on the steering wheel.
    All the Mazda settings are pretty much set and forget once you buy the car so needing to access them using the command dial is a non issue.

    The knob is so much easier and safer than a touch screen. The touch screen forces your eyes off the road and more often than not you have to navigate through multiple screens to get something done.

    • @aperson5062
      @aperson5062 5 месяцев назад +5

      I own a Mazda CX-50 and a Mercedes C300 with a giant touch screen in the middle with all controls on the screen. The Mazda infotainment system is easier to use. Trying to tap on icons and sub icons to find everything while moving in a car means you are trying to put some fingers on the edge of the screen to steady your hand while using your thumb to tap or other unusual compensations for the movement and reach. The dial is under hand and the car moving and reach never have to be considered to enter inputs.

    I think the reason the cx-5 sells more than the CX-50 is because it’s a better vehicle…. Built in Japan and with a more sophisticated independent rear suspension…

    • @74beef
      @74beef 4 месяца назад +4

      “Better” is subjective… the simple torsion beam suspension is significantly stronger, allowing for more towing and better off road robustness when needed. For me that immediately made it a better car as I wanted more than the 5 offers. Test drove both and the 50 handles wayyyy better it’s worth it for the slightly rougher ride.
      Cx 5 is better for city life, cx50 is better if you also have an outdoor life.

DSC could be turned on and off via that button while the car was running, different story with the traction control though.

    People want the CX-5 not the CX-50. I own two CX-5s. They're great for what they are. I paid under MSRP for my 2022 even though it was just after the pandemic. It's been very reliable and I have 80,000 miles on it now. The only thing to go wrong was a CV axle which are common failure points so there's rebuilt ones for $75 on rockauto. I live on some of the curviest roads in NA so it's much more of a pleasure to drive compared to the competition. They're one of the best value for money mid sized SUVs on the market. If I was in the market I'd drive this and the RAV-4 and whichever I liked better I'd buy with no hesitation.

    Great Channel ; great real-life off-road tests for summer and winter conditions. Bravo Ryan and colleagues! Glad I subscribed some time ago. Here my questions., all related to AWD systems.
    Perhaps like you, I noticed that in 2024 and since 2022ish, vehicle prices of the same models have increased by ~$10K, some even more. So... as I carefully navigate which CUV/SUV I pick next time and as I move into retirement (I don't need fancy, I am too pragmatic), what are your recommendations for the better AWD systems available in non-luxury vehicles. I'm thinking of Honda i-VTM4 2nd Generation as with Pilot TrailSport and Elite for now, Hyundai/KIA HTrac System, Mazda i-Activ AWD available in CX-5 / CX-50 / CX-70, Toyota's Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD on certain models and Subaru's AWD system with X-Mode or X-Mode Dual Function.
    From what I've watched on your channel and another:
    1) Toyota's comes up short that includes overheating for what seemed like a fairly short uphill challenge, plus when certain singular wheel is the only one left to get the vehicle moving forward because the others are up in the air simply stuck/spinning and that the rear distribution tops out at 50% without true independent left-to-right distribution. As I want an AWD system that responds when needed, I'm not thinking of the 4WD system as I understand that comes in the 4 Runner or other.
    2) Mazda i-Activ AWD came up short as well similar to Toyota's, however I saw another video where Mazda saw that factual shortcoming video and as I understand, they retuned/reprogrammed their i-Activ AWD system for better rear wheel response. But does their most up-to-date version actually provide independent left-to-right distribution? That is why I noticed and appreciate you re-testing a CX-5 (2023 then a 2024) as there may be a difference.
    3) Hyundai's HTrac system, I don't have much info. about and as I prepare for retirement, I'm finding their products are built for short term life (

    I’m really torn. For my next car/suv, I’m looking at the Acura RDX, Subaru Outback or Forester and the CX5 or CX50. Part of me wants not to get the Subaru because of the CVT but the list of features are amazing. The Acura RDX suffers from the same thing as the Mazda. The dang infotainment system are both less to be desired. However the driving experience are both great. Only reason I’d go with RDX is the blue ASpec with red leather is beautiful.

    I think its a choice for mazda. In mexico they only sell the cx50 in the signature edition, forcing clients to go for any version of the cx5 over it. I recently bought a signature cx5 but if i had the option I would’ve probably bought the 50 on a lower trim

      @@bv9735 Yep I agree, wished they used the Aisin 8 Speed Auto in the Pajero Sport, would have been perfect, if I were to choose an Outlander it would be the PHEV version since it's the only one without a CVT, instead it has a Single Speed TransAxle GKN Multi Mode E-Transmission.

    • @warcrabcyber9908
      @warcrabcyber9908 2 месяца назад

      @bv9735 the outlander phev powertrain is superior to mazda, as soon as you accelerate you get instant torque from the electric motors , it is a 1 speed transmission
      the mazda is slightly quicker
      7.13 seconds vs 7.8 in the outlander phev
      however the outlander phev has
      61km electric range on a full charge before resorting to its petrol engine which gives 26mpg
      On average you only get 22mpg from the mazda
      So in the real world you can drive the outlander phev for entire month without using any gas once you charge it every night , because the average person does not work 61km away from home, at most the average person will do 40km too and from, meaning 1 fuel tank can last for 3 weeks to a month.

    One of the many reasons I bought a subaru forester over this car was that horrible infotainment system. They market it as "safety" so it's not touchscreen and you use the knob. Come on mazda, you're just trying to save money. Embarassing for a 2020+ year car with no standard touch screen
