You might have just sold me on this one Joe! I’ve always loved the CX-5’s but wasn’t sure if I should get one as I’ve heard they’re phasing these out soon. I’ve been looking at the new CRV’s a lot, and have been craving one of them as my next car, but you get so much more for your money with Mazda. AND they don’t have CVT’s which is a HUGE win for me. Thank you as always for a great review, Joe!! 🫶🏻 from CT!
We cross shopped the CRV as well, and we thought the CX-5 was the better buy all around. We were specifically comparing the hybrid CRV, so Honda won on the MPGs, but that was it for us. The Mazda drove nicer, better performance, and quality felt better. Plus you get more standard features with the Mazda. As a benefit, the Mazda dealers were willing to go lower on their asking prices! Make sure to test drive them back to back and I think you will be surprised by what Mazda is offering. We ended up with a 2024 carbon turbo.
Got a 2023 CX-5 Turbo in July and have taken it on a few long drives and averaged just under 31 on the freeway..so the gas mileage is pretty good for what you get (I do wish the tires were little more high performance though). Big fan of Mazda's...had a 2015 6 speed 3 five door for a few years and enjoyed it alot..great quality cars that drive so well.
Curious what you set your cruise on? Thing I didn't like about it is that it revs too high on the highway. About 2,300 at 70 mph. That can't be good for longevity especially if you run 80+ mph.
@@302Mustang13 I honestly dont use cruise much..never been big fan of it..but I generally drive about 80 so same thing with/without. Yea if it was an 8 speed would be lower rpm and would get little better mpg/acceleration for sure

I can see why someone would compare it to the Honda CRV... but... The CX-5 is in a league of it's own. "Normal" transmission and not a CVT. Fantastic attention to NVH and drive train feel. No comparison to the Honda. As others have noted - Punched FAR FAR above it's class. Great SUV.

That's unfortunately a Mazda issue all around, I drove a nicely equipped CX-90 and I couldn't believe how harsh it was over bumps along with the heavy steering, that totally takes away from any "premium " experience.
Yes, I like how it's painted all around the fender because with the flat black, it gets dull over time and you need to use some chemical product to restore and maintain it.
We love our carbon turbo 2024 CX5, drives so well and it has enough power. The looks are handsome as well love it !! Great for a small family if you care about driving dynamics
It can be a touch screen, there is a way to do it but I don't...I have a CX5 signature and like it, it's more expensive to drive, ok but wish the gas tank was larger...I am concerned about that in the future no one will want a car that's not a hybrid and the resale value will be depressed...fun and satisfying to drive for a SUV.
Hey Joe brother, love the vids… I was wondering if could do an Infiniti G37… I remember I asked you a while back, you said you’d look for it but you probably forgot, Lol. Anyways keep up the videos, You are Lori are the best!
We have a 2017 signature in their frost blue silver, love it so much, the car is in the middle ground between economy and luxury, I'd say leaning more toward luxury, and comes at a great price that's more toward economy, love the extra touches they do. This new one has the beautiful silver accents on blue with dark brown nappa leather, great spec. And because it's also reliable Japanese, I'd take this any day over a German rival, it's just as good if not better
I own a 24 CRV and it does everything well except be an engaging vehicle to drive. The CX5 is more enjoyable to drive even in non-turbo, but is smaller with worse gas mileage.
I have the same CX5. It's a vastly superior vehicle to a CRV. BTW, there was a white Benz SUV following you. Probably thought you were racing when you went "on throttle".

I really like the looks of the updated CR-V, especially the Sport. Unfortunately, there's nothing too sporty about the CR-V under the hood. And IMO Mazda is trending upwards in quality and reliability, whereas Honda is slipping. So for about the same price it's a no brainer. CX-5 turbo all the way. And Mazda's 6 speed Automatic is bulletproof. The CR-V only has a CVT, as most 4 cylinders do now. One note: he said 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. That's as fast as a 93 Mustang Cobra 😮
The Mazda CX-5 GT with the non-turbo 2.5l is still my favorite and this one is aging very well. Reliable, pleasant to drive, good handling, superior finish and still very pretty to look at. Naturally, tastes differ from person to person. 😁 I must admit that I really like Mazda products. I presently drive a 2024 Mazda3 Sport GT manual and also have a 2023 Mazda MX-30 GS for daily trips which are 95% less than 80 km between May and October. I put it in storage between November and April (no winter driven). 😁

I have 2018 Mazda 3 Sport GT, it only has 24,800 miles on it and it in excellent condition. I love. I have worked from home since the beginning of covid so it's like new. I want a new CX-5 so I might trade it in, but I thought about putting it in storage for a few years as it was the last model year for the 3 series and I like that body style better than the new body style.
Joe, why compare this to a more economical car like Honda when Mazda isn’t really in the same position? I feel like Mazda caters to a more specific audience.. would be better to compare this to something else
If the CX5 was just as spacious as the CR-V, got the same gas mileage and was hybrid, then I would prefer the CX5. Also I don’t personally like vehicles that don’t have a touch screen for infotainment. To me it’s important.
It came out in 2013 not 2016. Anyways if you want an SUV that outhandles most cars and has excellent quality the CX-5 is the way to go. Since the CX-5 has gained a lot of weight over the years I recommend only the turbo versions.
I'm going to zonk the bright chrome line around the window. Something new and stylish the should have done is match that with the aluminum look of the wheels and side mirrors! Even make the chrome in front should be aluminum.
I bought the 2016. Still got it. Its always being very noisey. Engine noise in cabin is very loud. Lots of creaks and rattles always. Brake pads and rotors dont last the industry standard . Info center does what it wants not what i want but in 16 i paid 28k for it so i consider it good value since its still getting me to point b every day. Would i buy a new one with all the competition these days probably not.
Words can't even begin to express just how bad I've been needing that space for my gallon of Yohoo. LOVE IT. For real, I'm buying this car :) Thanks for the review!
I recently bought a 2024 CX-5 Turbo Premium. It was down to the CR-V or CX-5. I decided that a premium brand stereo like a Bose or Harman Kardon was a must have as it's a feature I really appreciate and enjoy daily. On the CR-V, I would have had to get the top Hybrid Touring Trim to get the Bose stereo. Mazda includes the Bose beginning with the Carbon Edition. I like the way the CX-5 looks inside and out. The turbo version is quicker than any CR-V trim. Fun to drive. It's quiet inside, road noise is subdued. Has a regular transmission rather than a CVT. Has veniltated seats that are not available in any trim on the CR-V. In the end, I chose the CX-5 because I felt the Mazda was nicer overall except for the better gas mileage and cargo space on the Honda and for notably less money for similar or more features. For me, it's actually a bonus that this generation CX-5 has been out for a while. Any bugs are likely worked out and I think the current design will age well even as Mazda introduces new models like the CX-50, CX-90 and CX-70 that follow a similar kodo design.
I agree with you on the beauty of Mazda's design. I thought in the last years of the 6 sedan it was one of the best looking 4 door sedans in the world. Regardless of price. They make beautiful cars.
Love the Signature. Carbon Turbo model was my initial choice, but Signature grew on me - Nappa leather, 360 camera, NOT all blacked out but gunmetal details (think Macan T, Audi S/RS, BMW M40i), etc. Yes, it's low key a sleeper, but also a bit more unique, which I appreciate. Zoom Zoom.
Thanks Joe for the great review, i have a 2012 Prius and I am going to sell it ASAP and going to jump on a 2024 CX-5, I need something bigger and with AWD. I was look looking at the Rav4s and the Subaru Foresters but I love how the CX-5 looks
The only thing I’d say I don’t like about mine is the suspension. I feel like they could’ve made it more adaptive. Better shock absorption needed. I can feel every little bump on the road…
Always and will admire Mazda vehicles! I also plan to buy the 2024 Mazda CX 5 Turbo. But I hope the 2024-25 model refresh, will have the 10-inch infotainment, and because all the trims of the CX 5 here in the Philippines, has still the old 7-inch infotainment. But apart from this single zonk, the rest of the CX 5 is just perfect! But I'm still torn between the colors Blue Mica and the Machine Grey Metallic.🤷♂
Gonna trade in my little CX3 here in Thailand for this 5 Turbo. I feel like I will be buying a classic car, but one that is still in production. Materials, craftsmanship and aesthetics way above the in price competition .... and of course, the driving satisfaction
I’m in the market and I keep coming back to the 5 but this is the only video that states it’s not a touch screen dash. Am I missing something??? Haven’t test drove one just yet.
The Mazda CX-5 is the most sporty CUV in this class of vehicle. Very Happy to see the exterior chrome, polished aluminum wheels with actual twin exhaust pipes. The center console shifter is the sign of a true sports coupe with a good size moonroof and attention to interior features and materials. This vehicle competes directly with the Subaru line of vehicles. The CX-5’s sibling the CX-50’s greenhouse is way too low for my taste and should be a mini CX-90 to be more desirable. Would like to see the side view mirrors off the doors and mounted into the A pillar. Mazda needs to keep the CX-5 and not attempt to replace it with the CX-50. Great Job Joe!

Thank you for sharing that awesome ownership info.
I wish I had a Whole Foods near me!
Cx5 still looks good…. I think I would go CRV hybrid.
I’ve been looking at both, and test drove the CR-V. It was great car, but if you want a little more pep and handling, it may leave you wanting
Maybe this was mentioned already, but the 24 has touch apple car play and android auto
Beautiful car... esp this trim!
2024 CX5 has a touchscreen. It needs to be enabled in Settings, Safety. I have 2024 Signature and a touchscreen
Only if you’re using Apple CarPlay
You are my favorite SUV Reviewer Joe!!
14:16 WHAT!? 🤣
Thanks for letting me share the laughs and the SUVs with you!
Best car guy on RUclips
Not even close
That means the world!
@@Mrtellitlikeitis Everyone has their favorites.
Mazda is making lovely cars!!. Great work Joe.
Small company with small ideas, have you seen a pickup truck in their 2024 vehicle lineups?
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 Did not know they made pick up trucks..🙏
I bought the 2016. Still got it. Its always being very noisey. Engine noise in cabin is very loud. Lots of creaks and rattles always. Brake pads and rotors dont last the industry standard . Info center does what it wants not what i want but in 16 i paid 28k for it so i consider it good value since its still getting me to point b every day. Would i buy a new one with all the competition these days probably not.
They have greatly improved sound insulation. The current models are very quiet inside.
Another great review Joe!! Best looking compact suv 🚙
I am so glad that you think so.
I love the Mazda CX05 I think it looks & I feel like this blue looks good.
Zoom Zoom.
I appreciate you sharing that great insight in to why you bought the Mazda you did.
Love the CX-5 over the CRV. Turbo, I agree with you of color, trim package, etc. Just a great designed vehicle
Sorry Joe I've gotten behind again. Awesome review as always Joe.
Prefer the flat black over fender walls . I got the 2021 machine grey and it looks great with the flat black.
Got a 2023 signature turbo and the headlights blow me away as does the Nappa leather interior
Better looking and more than likely better handling. I don't know about fuel economy though
Getting 12.4 litres per 100 kilometres according to the instrument display. It’s not an economical motor. But it’s sporty.
8:00-8:24 is spoken like someone who has seen this firsthand. And the lost Garbage Pail Kids anecdote? I could feel your pain. Great review as usual.
How do you turn the radio off without shutting off the Mazda Connect screen? I mean not simply muting the audio, but turning it OFF.
Thanks
Joe, please review the premium audio systems if they have them.
This is my favorite compact SUV. Much prefer it over the CRV.
I have a 2024 Signature...good vehicle, but can we talk about how soft the paint and windshield is? Paint chips and pitted glass galore...
Thanks for your great points!
I was gonna buy a cx-30, but im torn between that and the crosstrek limited
That is a tough decision to make.
Can you also talk about parking sensors. It use to be a common thing in cars but now a days it seems like they don’t offer it anymore.
I have the 2016 CX5. I have a feeling for the price I'll get the upgrade. Also Volkswagon Cross Atlas Sport is in the picture
Does the forward facing camera record or is it just their for the hell of it?
I own a Mazda CX 5 2024 Premium Plus and I love it !!!
I do like the style, but it is time for a total redesign more than small revisions. Nice video. 👍
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video real true 👍
