I've identified the hummingbird-ish creature. It's the Coffee Bee Hawkmoth, native to Japan, Australia, and (middle) eastern countries. A video segment about it can be found here: ruclips.net/video/2ZFBUr4vrD0/видео.html You're welcome 🙂
It is a hummingbird moth at 20:15. This is a prime example of convergent evolution, where two completely different species hit on mechanisms that look very similar to exploit an ecological niche.
@@Carly_Medosch Oh, I wasn't sure they had them in the States! I only learned about them on the interwebs a few years ago. I've never seen them in real life. I would freak out!
The plant with the red balls that Kyde cupped so lovingly is amaranth. It is an ancient grain with a high nutrition content, and found all over the world.
Fuji-Q! I went there once when I was stationed back in 2003. So much fun. I know everyone talks about the coasters, but they have a haunted hospital that is the coolest one I've ever been to.
I suppose the people get used to seeing Mt. Fuji but I can never get over the fact that there's a beautiful mountain RIGHT THERE. Even if it's hiding in mist, it's still amazing to me!
That's how I felt living in the shadow of Mt Humphreys in Arizona. It has a pretty big prominence and occasionally I'd forget about it until suddenly, BAM! There's Mt Humphreys! Dominating the northern sky. It was even crazier in some places, must've been an optical illusion, but from certain streets it'd look twice as large. Felt like it was this beast eating the sky! Almost made you dizzy in its presence! Moved back to the east coast to a flat state and now I miss being occasionally caught off guard by the mountain. Almost becomes personified just by always being there. Shy when it's cloudy. Angry during the summer drought. Sad when it rains. And happy during a perfect Spring day on the Colorado Plateau!
I live super close to it (like an hour away from the main lakes) and on most days can see it outside my apartment and I will never ever get over it. It’s so beautiful and giant!
Kyde gave herself the razor scooter special...also the hummingbird is actually a hummingbird moth! We have joro spiders in georgia theyre awful and everywhere
Hey guys! I’m enjoying your Mt. Fuji adventure. Thanks for letting us see it thru your eyes. I just wanted to comment about the food trucks. Here in the States, it’s called a food truck frenzy where they gather during a arts and crafts festival. So that is what that was, a food truck frenzy! Enjoy and stay safe!
Loving the old school cyclist "neko" cap! And it seems like the food truck phenomenon keeps spreading through Japan. Been watching a number of pieces on NHK about how some restaurants used them to avoid going bust going bust during lockdown. Here in Portugal they can be found mostly in tourist traps and maaan are they underwhelming and overpriced!
I don't think the problem is Google with these cycle route. It is clear that the road system has no consideration for bicycle. The bicycle lane in the early part of the video is just some painting the road and the road was never designed with bicycle in mind. I still cannot understand why people think it is a good idea to cycle between cities when the infrastructure is not there and then blame Google map.
On my editing my fast forwards are not smooth….are you shooting in 30fps or 60fps? I love these adventure blogs…..great stuff. Insect was: hummingbird hawk moth.
I live in the Shizuoka prefecture area and Fuji-Q is awesome! It’s free admission but you pay to ride the rollercoasters and food obviously, I’ve only been once but it’s so cool. I also always see those giant military trucks driving around the mountain-y areas! I’ve also definitely seen those murder hornets being sold in honey around the Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba area by a sweet old woman but I couldn’t bring myself to buy it.
Looks like it was a really nice day! I think you all made the right choice. But I have to know now, what did Kyde get for dinner?! Lol we say Eric’s dinner but never Kyde’s.
haha, i don't remember what she got, nor do I remember why she didn't feel like filming it. Sometimes if it's not interesting we don't bother because we don't have anything to say. -E
@@kydeanderic lol it’s ok! I’m sure she was ready to eat after having to wait for her food. I just thought it was funny we jumped from your food straight to the hotel. I promise I’m not a complete weirdo lol. She just usually gets something different from you and interesting
Thank you for bracketing "in Japan". i wasn't sure if you meant Mt. Fuji in Egypt. (don't look it up) :P - love ur vids as always p.s what is a self defense force truck? for a defense force who looks after themselves? p.p.s i think the chill out mascot was himself i.e the can, not a condom. a lil meta and less amusing than if it was a condom.
Why didn’t you just buy some gomi bags, take off the front wheels, and come back on the train? To where you live it would have been a very easy undertaking.
it would have been harder than expected as we have never taken our bikes on trains, we had a lot of heavy gear with us that wasn't packed to easily get onto a train, the cost is still like 4000yen per person one way, etc. -E
@@kydeanderic oh, I have a bunch of bike bags that I never use now. I’d be happy to hop a few stops over on the monorial to let you have them for a song :-)

Internet says it is a Hummingbird Hawk-Moth which is a Moth
Yep this is right. We get them in Virginia. I had a similar reaction when I saw one for the first time, too!
@@Carly_Medosch Oh, I wasn't sure they had them in the States! I only learned about them on the interwebs a few years ago. I've never seen them in real life. I would freak out!

😂🤓

About ceramic "Tanuki," these guys are from the area called "Shigaraki (しがらき、信楽)" in Shiga pref. You guys need to visit there again, haha!
We were tricked by those moths at Enoshima. Thought we were seeing lots of hummingbirds.
Still cool as f*ck tho.
What a glorious time!
love these food shots... it always looks amzing...
perfect timing for the publish as usual! Thank You!
20:10 "Where's the child?" really caught me off guard lol
Glad it worked out :) Great trip!
I saw Fuji Q Highland from the train.
Thanks Kyde and Eric excellent video
very cool, a locale i could never get to see otherwise, thanks for taking me along💕💞
I like that one of the Patrons swapped out their ID to be 'It's A Hawk Moth. '😄

Hummingbird disguised as bee/bug? Fun bike trip! Thanks
25:35 That's a can with a baseball cap, chillin' out. The mascot on the can is the can itself. Far out, duuuude!

late to this video! Love it--and love how the credits come up as eric settles into the bath. That sir is a good edit cue haha!
Beautiful lake nice trip again!
Eric, at 33:01, that's a manga magazine. Japanese young adult manga magazine usually has hot girls on the cover, which sells I guess.
Excellent vlog thank you, plenty of varied content. Your cut from fika to cannabis and marujana took me by surprise, I didn't see that coming.
This looked like a lot of fun!
Chill out is also a (in)famous cheap bag-in-box wine here in Sweden. 😊
I love how long Eric let us think he was cycling In the nude before saying “for the brisk”
Also that’s got to be a bug, not a humming bird.
The Chill Out mascot is the can.
Oh regarding the bird. Since it’s December, Km going to call it a Humming Bug 🐜! 😂
Love your work. Wish I were there.
I believe that mysterious bug bird was a hummingbird hawk-moth so a bug
Interesting video. Thanks.
Well, think yourselves lucky. Zero centigrade for about the past week here. That moth is a hummingbird hawkmoth.
Ha ha, Eric is so me with never being properly dressed for the weather! Does the poor man even own shoes other than sandals? :)
CBD is derived from the Hemp plant, Hemp contains zero THC the active component in Marijuana. They are two different yet related plants.
Not sure if it's been said but the thing you were curious about is a hummingbird moth
The bikes are the LEM and the van is the CSM, the lake is the the Sea of Tranquillity
There's a area near Ebisu Station Tokyo with a building that has a bunch of honey suckles covering a wall. You'd see those moths there in the city.
A unwashed hippie would be a "crusty" ☠️💀☠️💀
Do they have the slowest roller coaster at Fuji-Q? If so, I'm down!
hahahha
You sure you want to do a loop while going 2 kph?🤔

@28:40 it’s a Hummingbird hawk-moth. So both are right 😂
I've actually seen Tanuki (racoon dogs) where I lived in Minami Oosawa.
Nice! I made the exact same decision with the exact same food truck last year ---was gonna get pizza but then I saw the cuban sandwiches👍
The bug is a hummingbird hawk moth. A bug that looks like a bird ;)
Looks like a type of hummingbird hawkmoth, a type of day moth. Japanese name: oosukashiba.

Great video as always. I cycled the lenght of Japan back in 2006/2006. On a side note. Are you teaching in Tokyo? How did you find your jobs?
We aren't teachers, no. We did teach a bit a decade ago, however. -E

the projects are 23.976, but the "fast forwards" are coming from a gopro10 hyperlapse thing which is why they are so smooth.
28:43 蛾の一種です。It's a kind of moth called ホウジャク in Japanese. (Macroglossum stellatarum Linnaeus)
