O Canada is the national anthem of Canada since 1980. It was composed in 1880 by Calixa Lavallée and written by Adolphe-Basile Routhier in French, and by Robert Stanley Weir, in 1908, in English. It became the de facto National Anthem of Canada in 1939, serving with God Save the Queen as Royal Anthem.
In this adaptation of the anthem, the lyrics are those that were used prior to 1980

@@civan109 Canada was created by British colonists and the native tribes there, the canadian Confederation was officially founded under the british crown by descendants of British colonists, therefore Canada is not the brother of the UK but is its son.

I was born in Canada in 1963 and this is the anthem I learned in school and sang. I had a hard time finding this version (“in all thy son’s command”) as it seems it’s been disappeared from Canadian history. Glad I found this, it’s weird to know lyrics you grew up singing and now feeling like you’re wrong every time you hear the current version.
It hasn't disappeared you just have to search older anthems
Even the more recent version, the lyrics were slightly different but the "in all thy sons command" was still in it until just a few years ago.

About 20% (roughly) of Canada is French. Not only in the prov of Quebec, but also particularly in New Brunswick and Manitoba. Also, significant portions of Canada are Native tribes. These folks are really quite definite that they are separate nations within Canada.
So if you wanted to say that Scotland and Wales were like that... Well, maybe.

Canada is the part of North America that decided it wanted to stay as a British colony instead of be independent. Technically, Canada wasn't "fully" independent from the UK until the 1980s!
@@puppetsock The French number is a significant, I wouldn't really say the 5% that are natives are to be honest. Especially considering that the number is self identified (there is a decent amount of people who identify and by no means should) and how little effect their population actually has on anything going on politically when there isn't a temper tantrum going on over them doing something or something happening to them.
The French are only relevant because they are a massive majority in Quebec (85%) and other eastern provinces. Hell, they have the opposite of the whole non-natives identifying as natives thing where they actually have a sizable population has chosen to identify as just straight up Canadian in studies outside of Quebec.
Also, put frankly, at this point in time they wouldn't be able to sustain themselves independently in any way shape or form. Not just because of the government in the past either but also because of how their land is organized, due to the lack of oversight and enforcement capability even when given money to improve things rampant corruption from their govs suck it all away. Not like it's even internally fixable either. It's a blight on them and everyone else.
Let the Inuit keep governing as they see fit cuz frankly that land doesn't matter but frankly it would be better for everyone if at the very least the natives elsewhere got a bit more oversight and centralization.

Never the official national anthem strictly speaking, only the 1980 version was given the status, but the anthem we all knew it to be and the version we sang daily when I was in grade school in the late 70s. Beautiful version, and a montage to make a man weep. Thanks.

We need to return to that original lyric as it is a dishonour to our military that we changed it to “in all of us command” !

They never show the maple leaf in this video. And when the chorus sings "in all thy sons command" we see the men who fought in the Great War which is what the line references, not men in the general sense.
"Sons" was added before WWI in 1913. Prior to that it was "thou dost in us command."
