Then conquer we must when our cause it is just and this be our motto in God is our trust. And the Star Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave over the land of the free and the home of the brave 🎵🇺🇲
The original third stanza has been incorrectly described as racist by those who don't know history. Specifically the words "Slave" and "Hireling". The British Navy couldn't get enough of it's own citizens to serve, so they IMPRESSED people. Kidnapped them off the streets of London, and even in America. Google it. Hireling refers to the King of England hiring German Hessian mercenaries to fight against George Washington. Battle of Trenton NJ. Google it. I don't know what they're teaching our kids in school. @@baronedipiemonte3990 I have wondered about this as well, and what specifically he was referring to. But what documentation do you or your teacher have to back up your claim?
