- Filmmaker Ami Horowitz says he always tries to humanise his subject in an interview “even if they are evil” but explains to Sky News Australia host Andrew Bolt how he nearly lost his cool while interviewing a terrorist.
The filmmaker managed to orchestrate an “undercover” interview with a terrorist mastermind and Hamas leader.
“My greatest skillset is not my interviewing prowess or the comedy, I think my greatest skill set is when I am sitting in front of somebody, not smashing them in the face with the lighting equipment … that was the case with him,” Mr Horowitz said.
“I was trying to humanise them so I could have a conversation and man, there were no jokes that I could make that were going to crack a smile.
“This guy was all business and his business was the business of death.”

@@sia9907 Yes exactly, that's why I'd reply with "how about a discussion?", posing another question to facilitate ironically, further discussion which would help break the barriers between interviewer and interviewee in the same way it would help Israel-Palestine. But the truth be told, Israel doesn't want to make any concessions in the same way Palestine doesn't. I just don't appreciate the disingenuous way the interviewer pretends like "he tried". He didn't.

I do see him trying to defuse an intense situation, though. Hamas types see questions as challenges. So from my point of view he was attempting to calm things down with an empathetic statement while not allowing the terrorist to take over the interview.
