- David Horowitz spent the first part of his life in the world of the Communist-progressive left, a politics he inherited from his mother and father, and later in the New Left as one of its founders. When the wreckage he and his comrades had created became clear to him in the mid-1970s, he left. Three decades of second thoughts then made him this movement's principal intellectual antagonist. "For better or worse," as Horowitz writes in the preface to this, the first volume of his collected conservative writings, "I have been condemned to spend the rest of my days attempting to understand how the left pursues the agendas from which I have separated myself, and why."

For those who have not yet read David Horowitz' book "Radical Son," it's very revealing of the origins of today's liberal democrats and what they really want to accomplish. Horowitz was one of them in the 60's and knew many of the major players then and now, so he has a unique perspective on both conservatives and liberals.

Does anyone know if Horowitz is still alive? I wonder how he would react to Jordan Peterson and the radical left's supreme hatred of him. And I wonder what he would think about the millions of young men who regard Peterson as like a rock star practically. And the guy is lecturing on the Bible and telling those young men to grow up and be responsible! It's amazing that he has moved them so when you consider what he is saying. I think what Horowitz is saying accords with Peterson's wonderfully. What he says is even more relevant today than it was in 2013.

Wasn't the last Horowitz article for The Nation circa 1978 or 1979, not the mid-70s as stated above? In any event, left/right in the American vernacular is not a horizontal continuum but more of an oval that curves back on itself with the nuttier extremes coming far too closer than they would admit.
The whole "oh they are both the same" argument always comes from people saying that no matter how bad the left is, perhaps the right is just as bad, although they have no proof. I have yet to hear someone say a conservative may be bad, but there are liberals just as bad. Probably because bad conservatives are rare, and always held accountable, unlike the left. I'd say which third party, but I really can't say which, out of a fairly large pool of "thinkers" I have at times, concurred with, because I don't honestly remember. But that's how I arrive at everything. But it's not such a "fringe" idea that I'm not surprised it's so unfamiliar to you or anyone else who's here instead of watching Fox News on cable. It's mainstream to me, not radical.
