- LA Mayor Karen Bass met virtually with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigeg seeking dedicated federal funding for the continued build-out of Metro rail projects in preparation of the 2028 Olympics, all while Metro continues to battle with violent attacks on it's buses. Conan Nolan reports for the NBC4 News on May 14, 2024.

Agreed. It's so easy to say we need to be nice to everyone and to feel good about ourselves because we are such nice people. It takes a brave person who is willing to stand by his or her convictions to be a leader. California is sadly lacking in leadership.

The sheriffs have disappeared! They once roam the train stations back in the days now you don’t see them and if you do is because they’re messing with you! Instead of the homeless or idiots disturbing the train ride.

That’s what happens when you have a weak D.A, cut budgets to mental health and police officers just chilling. I ride the train and bus at times and the train by far is the worse! No sheriffs in sight, homeless taking over the train with their junk and nonsense.
Homeless live on the metro. I saw one come on the train yesterday with 3 sharpened sticks. It’s insane. There are no cops on the train and there should be. Mental health?!? Yeah ok 🙄

Given the amount of crime and the high likelihood of more crime, there should be a Metro Police Force (which includes safety advocates, and people to come into buses and trains to help riders). AND YES TAXPAYERS we should pay for that. We already pay for the California Highway Patrol and they exclusively patrol our extensive highway system, not the Sheriffs or various Police Departments. It's more than worth it, we shouldn't only "clean up" the Metro system in time for the 2028 Olympics. It should be done now and continuously -- especially since they're talking about expanding over the next 20 or more years.
Well for starters officials need to ban homeless from living in the subways and its stations.

What a crap report. You are a hundred times more likely to be injured riding in a car than taking the metro system. Try reporting with some perspective. We have never had a report of a car crash on the freeway framed like it is too dangerous to be using cars, even though that would be more honest.
