SOL3 MIO - We Are Samoa LIVE (2014)

Identity is an issue that I have learnt over the years, that many people from all around the world seem to have many opinions on. Some seem to value their national identity (i.e. of the country they were born in or raised - or migrated to), others value their ethnic identity more (i.e. heritage etc) - some tend to find a balance of both.
There is no wrong and right answer to this, but for many Pacific cultures and in this case - Samoa, those of Samoan background tend to instil into their children and offspring, the importance of their heritage from a very young age. This is because our faasinomaga is so important to us as we trace our roots back to our families in the islands. Something I know that westerners seem to find puzzling - especially in the sports fields (look at what they say about Samoans playing in the All Blacks, Wallabies etc). So to many of those born outside of Samoa and living in the diaspora - their cultural values and upbringing go hand in hand with westernised culture and education that they receive in the respective countries that they live in. That is why children of these migrants are proud to represent and say they are Samoan as well as being an American, a Kiwi, an Aussie and so forth.
So too with these sons of Samoa Sol3 Mio who are also proud New Zealanders - they love to represent Samoa on the global stage everywhere they go. Many sports stars and Hollywood actors are like this as well - Dwayne The Rock Johnson, KJ Apa, countless rugby stars, David Tua, those in MMA like Justin Tafa, Mark Hunt and the list goes on. These people are all proud of their heritage and proud to call themselves Samoan.

The pride of Samoa, and New Zealand . God given talent, I have watched you grow and become amazing artists. You first concert in Hamilton, to the concert you did in San Francisco, Dec 1st 2017. Thank you for this video sole Mio are a great inspiration for our younger people who may want to get into opera. Also nice how Amitai had his pe'a done 2 years back, which also adds to the love of our Aganu'u and faasinomaga being born and raised in another country but still having the fa'a Samoa ways that our parents instilled in us which we carry when older. Also knowing that our parents were here with not much family having to learn another language and way of doing things it would have been so hard for them but they stayed persistent. Love how you guys tell the world who we are our people alofa Aku 🌺❤️🇼🇸💯
