  • Our trek to the Pulemelei ancient pyramid mound on the island of Savai’i in Samoa.
This is a place that not many Samoans or foreigners have visited as it is located deep in the jungle, and most of the guides you will find on the internet are inaccurate.
We were lucky enough to drive to the general area and then speak to the locals to secure 4 guides who both knew the way and cleared many obstacles on the route with machetes. Given our experiences I would say it would be close to impossible to locate the pyramid and then navigate a path to it without local assistance.
The journey involves some very steep ascents and descents, and traveling through a fast flowing river, muddy bogs and thick jungle.
All up the journey takes about an hour each way, but it is only suitable for fit hikers as the terrain is quite challenging in several places.
Unfortunately the mound has been overgrown with jungle vegetation, but you can still easily make out it’s sloped sides, and the stone stairway that leads up to the flattened top platform.
If you have a sense of adventure and want to ponder the mysteries of lost civilizations and ancient history, then this is a must visit location.

@jmjm1920 Where are your evidence and sources ?? Just accept the fact that Tongans(South) sailed from Samoa(Sacred Center) and discovered the land that you now called Tonga which means South.. South of what ?? South of the Center which is Samoa... I know it's hard for you Tongans to swallow it but it's the truth brother, As an Hawaiian i'm proudly accept Samoa as our Daddy cause our ancestors 1000 years ago sailed from Samoa..even our Royal Family's roots and ancestors are from Samoa..

@@FamaSeven Did you intentionally shorten the name? Its TongaTaboo/Tapu - Sacred, Tongatapu means ‘sacred south’ and as a samoan i myself can admit Samoa isnt the birthplace of Polynesia thats been debunked many times now our ancestors first sailed from Tonga we have archaeological evidence of this, also navigators from east Polynesia probably settled Hawaii and Nz
