To get into SNU do they look at extra curricular activities and can someone with just above average grades but numerous extra curricular activity get in?
Hi everyone, thank you for watching my video(s). I am still receiving many questions related to Seoul National University up to this date. I have tried my best to answer your questions, either directly, through social media, emails or other videos. However, my experience as an exchange student at SNU was in 2016 - it's been 4 years already. Therefore, I will no longer answer any questions related to this matter moving forward. If you haven't already, please take a look at my other videos covering this topic. Thank you for your understanding and good luck if you're planning to study abroad!

Hi! I recently found your channel and love your posts from Seoul. They are a great inspiration since I want to apply to go to a university in Seoul during my university studies. Can I ask you after how many years of studies did you go abroad to Seoul? Also, since I'm studying engineering I'm thinking about applying to KAIST (or/and UOS), do you know or have heard anything about KAIST?
Hope you can answer! Thanks so much for your videos! So sad you and Sally won't be in Seoul if I go there, you two seem like two really sweet people!
Matilda Tamm Glad you enjoyed my videos from Seoul 😄 I went on student exchange after my 2nd year of university, so I was technically a 3rd year student. Sorry, I haven't heard of KAIST before..
Hi Nicole! I had been loving your videos lately. They really make me feel inspired to go and study in SNU in the future as well. This video especially is very informative but I still do have questions left.I hope you can answer them. Thank you!
1.Did you stay in Korea for 2 semesteres and two breaks?
2. For the dorm price was it just for one semester?
3. Did you go back home during the breaks or did you continue living in the dorms? How much was the cost of the dorms during the break?
4.How much money did you save/prepare in order to live in korea for a year (living expenses, food, transport, shopping, etc)?
I'm so sorry for the many questions.
Hi Jenine, glad to hear you're feeling motivated to study abroad! It's a great experience.
1). I only studied at SNU for 1 semester (spring) and then stayed for an extra two weeks to enjoy time with friends before leaving. My friend Sally (in this video) was there for 2 semesters (she went the fall semester before I joined)
2). The dorm price is just for 1 semester (still so affordable!)
3). As I was only there for 1 semester, I didn't get any breaks until the semester ended. However, I know many of my friends who were there for 2 semesters did go home (e.g for Christmas and New Years)
4). I can't remember how much money I saved up beforehand, but I did spend around £3,000 - £4,000 during the one semester.
Hope my answers are useful~
Thank you 😊
Hi thanks for this vedio actualy i i want to ask can i apply for snu as i wana do BDS for dentist from undergraduate??? Plz ans i need your help
Hi! Thank you for these videos! I'm currently applying to SNU! I am a biology major in the department of natural sciences at my home university, but I don't want to take any science courses at SNU, so I am thinking of applying to the department of humanities instead to take more culture classes and electives. Do you think that would be okay or would they reject me because I am a biology major?
Hi Sarah, it would be best to first ask your home institution about what they require of you, such as whether or not you need to stick to the same department, what grades you must achieve in order to pass the program and if it would be okay for you to take some classes that's not related to biology. SNU is fine with exchange students taking classes from any department besides from the more technical like science or nursing...so even if you're in a science department, I'm pretty sure they'll still allow you to take some culture classes
Nicole Cheng (NHYC) Thanks for your reply! One more questionn, kind of on the same topic! Do you think SNU cares a great deal about whether you go there to take courses relevant to your degree? Or are they okay with you taking mostly other courses? I remember you saying that you took a child development course despite being a media/pr major. Was that an exception or would it be okay to only take classes outside your major (of your home uni)?
Sarah Kim I think they don't really care too much, hence why they allow exchange students to take modules from any department :) you just need to keep in mind that home institutions usually require their students to do at least 1 or 2 modules related to their degree. It's just that sometimes SNU doesn't offer a lot relevant classes that are taught in English...maybe that's why SNU are more flexible about it!
Nicole Cheng (NHYC) Alright understood! Thanks so much!
Sarah Kim good luck :)
are you required to take classes to learn korean as an intl student or are they optional?
I'm not sure, but the International students that I met could speak Korean pretty well.
Hi! Thank you so much for these videos, especually from a fellow British person lol. Anyways, just wanted to ask if you got or can get a job in korea as an international/exchange student?
I think you can only work a limited amount of hours per week - most of my exchange/international friends didn't have jobs, but there were a very few that tutored children english a few hours a week. I'm unsure how they found the job though.
Nicole Cheng (NHYC) Ok, well thnx for replying☺
Do you have fashion designing course?
Hi Nicole, thank you for sharing those informations with us... can foreign students get part time or full time job in Korea? I mean after the lectures are they allowed to work?
and another question, can foreigners buy houses in Korea?
Hello~ some of my exchange friends tutored kids a couple hours a week. You can find out more about working here www.englishspectrum.com/foreign-students-are-we-allowed-to-work-part-time-in-korea/ and I have no idea about buying houses lol.
Nicole Cheng (NHYC) thank you so much sweetie
Nicole Cheng (NHYC) thank you so much sweetie
Nicole Cheng (NHYC) thank you sweetheart
Hi Nicole! Did Sally apply for a part time job there to help for living expenses etc.?
Hi! Thanks a lot for the video.. i am wondering whether it is hard to pass the course? Were the exams tough? Bcs i heard one of the smartest student from my uni got a C for a course at Snu.. thank you in advance!
Debra Mei It's different for everyone. I struggled a bit because I don't enjoy speaking in front of everyone during presentations and I am terrible at exams... But honestly as long as you stay organised and on top of your workload, you should be fine.
If an international student apply robotics Engineering in seoul national University do they have to give an exam....???
Hey I'm doing bachlor in humanities (basically english major) but i want to study fashion designing at SNU.... Do they accept me?
Hi Nichole!I'm from India and my dream is to study in SNU! I have a doubt! Can I apply in SNU for psychology course after I finish my 12th?
Hope you would answer:)and I love your video!
Did you get a recommendation letter? I have the eligibility but I don't have anyone in korea as a recommender for that ,😭😭😭
Do we have to change dorms every year ? Can I decorate my dorm ?

Heyy so I plan to get an undergrad in biology at my home university and after that I plan to attend the dental school at SNU. In America in order to be admitted into there dental schools you have to take the Dental Admissions Test. I was wondering if their dental school have a test similar to that?
Hi Nicole! I just wanna ask if there's a curfew? Is there a gym inside the dorm as well? Thanks! 😊
Bea Lapitan Hi! No curfews and there is a gym in the 919 dorms and graduate dorms :)
I am in 12th class and after completing 12th class how will I get admission in Seoul national University because I want to do bsc in Seoul national University please tell me if there is any entrance exam for getting admission in snu to do bsc and should I have to learn Korean language or they taught in English and after completing bsc there will I get job in South Korea please reply🙏
Yes you can
if i want to study biological sciences / biology in snu, will the courses be taught in english?
Funny Kinda probably , you should check the web
Is there any rules to go out but there is time limit?
Is it allowed to cook your own food at the dorm?
Yes, but the kitchens there are super shit. So better don't expect too much.
I want to go to Veterinary School at SNU after my 4 year university in my home town.
I have pets that I cannot and will not leave behind what so ever. So I know in America freshman *have to* stay in a dorm. So I'm guessing it's the same at SNU? If it is then I'll probably have my dad come with me (he doesnt even want me going alone anyway lol) and he'll live with them in a little apartment and me in my dorm. Then eventually it'll be just me and my pets 😀
It's 4 years from now and I'm already so freakin nervous and so freakin excited 😂😂😁
How very kind of your dad, he is wonderful for being so supportive of you. Good luck!
Are you able to be an undergrad student at SNU and not do an exchange program? So just go to SNU as your only college? And can you request roomies if youre applying with a friend to the University?
Yes to both questions. You will need to apply for SNU directly as an international student, and also when applying with the dormitory, both you and your friend will need to state that you wish to be roommates. You'll find more information on that on the SNU gwanaksa website.
Thank you!!
can you stay in the same dorm for your full degree or do you have to change it after each semester/year?
Hello I have a big question really important for me...I would like to know if I can stay there with my rabbit because I can’t live without him I love him so much and one year without him is imposible for me... I’m a vet student and I don’t know if there’s a different building or something because in my uni everyone goes to take lessons with their animals...I mean normally you can’t have dogs and cats but a rabbit I don’t know.. please can you answer me?? It’s really important to me!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I'm pretty sure no pets are allowed in the dorms, but you can email SNU directly to ask.
Nicole Cheng (NHYC) okey thank you so much! Do you know their email? Because I only see the telephone number..
Lady Scarlett Sorry, if it's not on the website I can't help you. My contacts at SNU either dealt with partners/exchange students from Europe only or were PhD students in charge of the dorms and I'm guessing they've moved on already.
Nicole Cheng (NHYC) it’s ok! Thank you!
Hi dear ,I hope you are fine now. I wanted to ask you do you know anyone in the field of nursing at Seoul National University or another university? I was looking for someone on RUclips but I did not find any. I wanted to ask them some questions.💜
Is it difficult to study in SNU? It is quite important for me to get all A+ (because of uni system). Is it possible?
Hi Nicole, I'm heading to SNU in Spring Semester. Is it really inconvenient to go to the city from campus? Hence, that's probably why Yonsei and Korea is more popular than SNU
Hello~ SNU's campus is up on a mountain, so yes it is rather inconvenient. However, they do have buses running from the early hours of the morning until 12am between Nakseongdae station and the dormitory. There are also buses between the campus and SNU station, but it's definitely easier taking the bus to Nakseongdae. Yonsei and Korea are apparently the 'party universities' lol.
Nicole Cheng (NHYC) Wow, I wasn't expecting a reply that fast. Thanks! Anyway, having know that Yonsei and Korea is like the 'party' uni, was life in SNU too mundane?
I get notifications 😬 but no, not at all! SNU is the #1 university after all, so most of the students there are very hardworking. A lot of interesting things happen too and if you're going as an exchange student, definitely sign up for the buddy system. Trust me, you won't get bored because they run a lot of activities and weekly pub events! Unless that's changed of course aha.
Will u please help me out regarding the admission process for the undergraduates. I m currently giving my 11 finals. But after 12 I really want s to study there.
hi Nicole! can u cook your own food in the dorms
Spotless Obika Hi, yes you can. There are communal kitchens, but you will have to buy your own kitchenware
Hi!
I'm thinking of going as an exchange student to SNU next september for one semester, but I'm just wondering if I need to learn how to read/write in korean? I can speak a bit and understand quite a lot, but I can't read anything :/ Will that be a problem?
Also, about the course applying process, it's all online, but when should I do it..? Are there like any deadlines I should be aware of? Like a time where it "opens" and I have to hurry to apply before the class is full?
My school won't help me with that stuff, I have to figure it out myself :')
Hello, your first question is a very common question haha! It's 100% fine if you cannot read, speak or write Korean because there are English taught courses (it would be silly if you sign up for Korean taught courses!!!). You'll probably learn some while you're there anyway.
As long as your application has been accepted, your point of contact at SNU will update you on the course application as well as dormitory application, so don't worry about it. Good luck and have fun!!
Hi i am harshita i am from India i want ur help i want to do undergraduate degree in geography and their official website show it is available but i am nit sure can u help me in this plz
Harshita Singh Hey Harshita, I can't really help you because I was only an exchange student. Please try contacting them for help. Good luck!
Can you pls tell me if competition is very high for the foreigners as i heard it is very very difficult to graduate especially in business classes..pls reply..
Going on exchange shouldn't be that difficult, but I don't know about the competition rate for international students.
the dorm cost is for exchange student, undergraduate student, or graduate student??
Galuh Wangsa The price I mentioned is for any student living in the 901~906 dorm. The price for the graduate dorm and other undergraduate dorm is different.
thank you💕💕
Does snu teaches in Eng??
They said they teach in both Korean and English and that you can choose which language to learn from.
hello i was wondering if you can have your friends in your room if they also live in the same building of the opposite gender? in other words can men and women go in eachothers rooms?
Yes they are, as long as they only go to your building/room during the open hours. I suggest you first ask your roommate/flatmates if they're okay with it because I found that most of the Korean female students didn't like that.
등산가 되겠네
If an international student apply robotics Engineering in seoul national University do they have to give an exam....???
