It's great how he adds that folks in wheel chairs or with disabilities can still work out to within their comfort range. Who else was thinking that way in 1960-whatever? A wonderful man.

Anyone else notice how the organist is able to ad lib everything Jack's does with perfect melody and rhythm? They must be a professional Theater Organ Player from the movie houses of the past. This is not scripted "to the second" like things are today.

I imagine most musicians worth their pay back then could do something similar. Even today, any pianist or even guitarist who can improvise could do this. Jack is literally counting a lot of the time, then other times there's parts that could be planned; rising on in breaths, descending on out breaths, sustaining when he says hold. Only in a few genres of modern music do you have lots of 'artists' who aren't at least skilled instrumentalists, if not skilled musicians.

Thanks for the interest in the picture. But I would never sell it. My daughters will inherit it. An update: I am now close to that 80 mark and still feel great still have a 28 inch waist. Have started some intensive weight training to see if I can get to the same physique I had when I was in my 50s. I exercise around an hour and a half each day weight training and cardiovascular conditioning.

My grandmother and my mother watched Jack--I remember seeing him on tv. Now, my daughter, in her mid-30's has used Jack to drop 3 sizes and 30 pounds. She stopped for about a year and started getting 'hung-over' so she is back at it and in just one week, there is a noticeable difference! I have neck and back issues but have been doing SOME of his workout and in a year have lost 20 pounds and lost 2 sizes. slow going but going indeed!

In the 1964 -65 school year, I was a year away from starting school, almost 5 years old. My Dad worked all day, Sis had just started school. I vividly remember me and my Mom watching this every morning. She would be cleaning or ironing but would do the exercises Jack was doing and even got me to do them. Great memories.

Personally, I owe Jack a lot for the beginning of a lifetime knowing that I needed to exercise regularly and protect my health. During summers as a preschool and elementary school kid, my grandmother would have me exercise along side her with Jack Lalanne. Every day, without fail, if Jack was on TV, we were following along. What a bright and positive example he always was! It was never drudgery with him! A big thanks to Jack and to his family now for this channel, please keep up the good work.

1959 (age 45) - did 1,000 jumping jacks and 1,000 chin-ups in 1 hour, 22 minutes, to promote The Jack LaLanne Show going nationwide. LaLanne said this was the most difficult of his stunts, but only because the skin on his hands started ripping off during the chin-ups. He felt he couldn't stop because it would be seen as a public failure

I remember the Jack La Lanne show! In Los Angeles , Jack La Lanne came on Channel 11 , KTTV , Los Angeles in the late 1960s. I remember mom and her friend Patricia used to exercise to this show. It was on around 9:00am and there were cartoons on Channel 9, KHJ , Los Angeles ," Babysitter " but mom turned on Jack La Lanne to exercise. It was the only time mom hogged the TV , but to her credit we controlled the TV in the afternoon when cartoons were on again.

One of the many Stars of the Golden Age of Television. Television in its infancy was looking for all forms of entertainment to tap the rapidly growing audience of home viewers and Jack lassoed the housewives. I remember as a child living in a railroad apartment in Brooklyn in the mid 60's flipping the channels looking for cartoons and pausing on Jack fascinated by this friendly, engaging, incredibly fit and muscular individual. I can't say I watched for more than a moment or participated but the memory of seeing him on black and white tv on quiet mornings before I was old enough to attend school are still fondly stored in my heart and mind.

My father lived in the Bay area back in the early 60's. He worked out at Jack's gym. At that time Jack was just a guy who owned some gyms. Dad said that the 49ers used to work out there as well and he got to know them. He said that there were no notables on the Niner's team at that time as they were terrible. I think he said that Jack was friends with a lot of them and that they used to play at this park near the Golden Gate.

I used to watch Jack La Lanne on KCND-TV (Pembina, ND) in 1968 on our B&W Viking (Eaton's) tv.
I was 2 yrs. old at the time. The programme was on at 6 am. So I guess I'd wake up and my Mom would put a clean diaper on me, and then I'd go watch Jack.
I remember that his exercises used to be quicker than the ones on Ed Allen on CBC. But I also remember that as a 2 yr. old I used to be able to keep up with Jack.

@ 14:20 Taking all of the religion out of this, Jack has hit the nail on the head with this one. We are confronted by temptation everyday and the only way to deal with it is to address it head on rather than ignore it.
If anyone finds themselves in this situation where temptation is becoming too much, my suggestion is to just sit down for a minute or two, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. If you're religiously minded you could do a small prayer - but you do whatever feels natural. What you will find after doing so, the solution needed to deal with that temptation will come to you rather than you chasing for the answer like a headless chicken.
If you don't find the answer right away, try it again tomorrow and keep trying. And if you lose all hope and things are looking bleak, speak to somebody about it pronto. You will find that someone is out there will help you out (e.g. A Health professional, friends, family etc.) and it isn't a sign of weakness to ask for help - if anything it'll make you stronger.
    That's all, cheers.

That's primarily what's wrong with the world today, vs. Jack's time. The fact that we HAVE "taken all of the religion out of this".

I had no idea that Jack did a brief stint in professional wrestling shortly before he started his television program. He was pitted against many of the top wrestlers of the period, and despite losing against all of them, he did manage to defeat one opponent, another "jobber" named Louie Sporelli. Jack beat him rather easily, getting a clean pin in less than five minutes. And so Jack is also listed as a winner on the professional wrestling circuit!

And no equipment, although he invented the Smith machine and leg extension devices. And no commercials.

I wish they would have more half hour shows. The shows that just a few minutes long aren't very helpful. Does anyone know where I could watch a full show? Thanks
