    I used kinda similar stuff, soviet БПЦ 8x30 with rangefinder reticle. Each mark equals 5 units or 18 MOA. D=(L/n)x1000. For example, for 1.80 meter human fitting in 5 units marks distance equals 360 meters. But it's hard to measure height of target with so rare scaling, escpecially with shaking hands, so Vortex reticle can be more precise and useful.
    But it cool stuff for "prepper" man. It's small, weights nothing, handy and allow to stalking babushkas two blocks away.

    Great video. I have a few pairs of quality binoculars, a couple of laser rangefinders, and of course many, many ranging scopes, but never really thought of this. I never really knew that this existed or realized the hole in my prepping that this fills until I saw this video. With coupon codes it is close to $110 from what I can tell. Definitely think I should pick this up. Thanks again!

    An additional reason not to rely on a laser rangefinder.
    With a military grade short wave infrared camera, the laser pulse from your civilian rangefinder can not only be detected but can be used to accurately direct fire on you. Here is an example, ruclips.net/video/Hmh2hbZLxWg/видео.html There are automated anti-sniper systems that triangulate those pulses, in addition to gunshot shockwaves.

    I wish they made this in a 25 mm like the non ranging version. Then you could easily fit it in a chest rig compartment and maybe squeeze it into a pistol mag pouch.

    • @wrenchist
      @wrenchist 4 года назад

      you'd have to suck the power down to 5 or 6 if you want it to get enough light for its magnification.

    the Solo is a solid choice, but i sprung for the RECCE Pro instead for a few reasons. its made in Japan, which means very clean glass. it has tethered dust caps both front and back, and a molly pouch instead of the cheap, neoprene "protector" the solo comes with. yeah, its 2x the cost, but you get what you pay for.

    You might want to learn and use the major number mnemonic system so you can memorize your entire list of calculations. That way you dont calculate at all, you just compare with what you see and pop out the result from.memory.

  • @PontiacCZ

    I received my R/T today. It has a great image, one just has to align his eye perfectly with the optical axis so he doesn't see black on either side which is pretty easy to get :) . But that's just a matter of training. The eyering does not keep flipped but that's because the rubber is new and elastic. It is also stiff to rotate and they don't even mention the possibility of eyering rotation in the manual... The only drawback is the case, they no longer supply the sleeve you show in the video, but a cheap-looking case with velcro. :-(

    The Celestron Oceana 8x42 monocular includes a ranging scale in milliradians. Good: it also includes a compass, though the compass does not rotate freely through the full 360 degrees on mine. Bad: it has only one focusing adjustment, so for objects at most distances you have to choose between having the reticle in focus or the object in focus. (The Vortex has separate focusing for reticle and object).
