@@chad-chaderson8421 I play on pc and i only use mouse to place items. except s & w to adjust heights placement, and z & c for many junping.
Also in "Settings" under "Controls" you can change how much items rotate and how much/fast the camera move. It start off at "insane" 5x speed at rotation as standard. I have mine all the way down in buttom 1x only.
Plus if you place your character before you enter V in facing the direction you want the "clean/straight" line placement to be. Then often items are excatly on that line when you choose them, and if they are not just hit tab, turn your character (works even in V mode) to correct, and tab again and item have now adjusted based on your movement.
Same goes for how the camera are facing when you choose a item to place, kinda works like how your character faces described above often. Not always :)
I have been able to place all my harvesters and such on a clean straight line this way, no way i would build base in this game if i couldn with my ocd.
Is it anoying you have to do all this ? YES ... ALOT .... But you can do it with patience :)

There is a way to build the cargo container contigous to each other in both directions, it is just a little annoying. You have to use the 1x1 small cargo, then a 2x1 med cargo, and then you can attach your next row to the medium cargo, which places it in line with your first 1x1.
    example:
    [s][s][m]
[s][s][m] the two m's here are one single medium cargo
You can then delete whatever containers you do not need to maintain your shape

So if you are building your wall out of the 1x1 containers you can snap a 2x1 on the end of it then snap another 1x1 on the inside corner of that container. Then you can delete the 2x1 and now you have a perfect corner of 1x1s.

Great info and the 03:23 shot where you talk about geting the wall over rock was an epiphany moment for me.
That wall intersecting in the back solved 2 problems for me 1st, in place of building a walled in area with 4 walls i did 6. And second was the walks i did were 5 high with the lower 4 foundation but for the build to have the contours of the land addressed i went one higher then adjusted the links. Bonus was i could top off the top as needed with 2nd 2c1 cargo.
One trick i wsed was a sheet if graph paper and then carboard cut outs so i coyld maximise the space.
I included a kill zone entry maze as 1st time i slept in the outpost i woke with Bounty hunters (the wanted trait) trhing to kill and same time messing with the outpost. Now i farm them as seems that trait has the perk of sendkng them regularly. Thanks to the outpost I'm now lv65. But still need to find a way to auto sell the manufactured outputs. Thats the big thing missing IMO that @ Bathesda should patch in ... designated byers of manufactured goods. Our cargo ships could be doing the runs.
Great vid please if you can keep them coming as there great quality and content

I think they should add defensive structures, such as walls and what not in a variety of styles, not just turrets and robots. I think that would allow for a much greater variety of outpost styles, plus if they incorporated more raids and animal attacks, that would also make it much more engaging, though I wish that they would increase the area in which to build, because it's very easy to run out of space quickly.

Attacks and raids are based on the value of the outpost meaning if you only have one or two resources compared to 5 or 6 being mined at a time the less likely you are to be raided if you have an outpost on a planet/moon with only two resources and random ships don't even spawn in no defense will be needed

  • @pyromethious

You can us the smaller containers in a staggered (zig-zag) arrangement to actually make flush corners. Somone has a video out there explaining it, but basically, you start with one of the containers you want, put a smaller one (snapped) to it, snap another container to That but offset and with some patience, you can get them to Actually connect. You'll still get the annoying snap where you don't want issues due to proximity, but it can be done.
As for an alternative to being out in the open, it's apparently possible to fit one of these inside the animal husbandry's large version, so you could make one of those and box the doors in.

Awesome! I'm just glad all the outpost-to-outpost features work! I've been setting up resource farms and cargo transports and they're all working. Even between planets!
I'm getting copper from the planet delivered to a beryllium-heavy outpost on its moon, to craft Tao parts. Getting iron from a great spot with 4 spawns delivered to an aluminum farm so I can make adaptive frames.
Just found an even Better spot with Al & Beryl and Europium so I'm reworking my transports to deliver everything There so I can print XP and print credits.
I got +8 levels in 3 days just crafting & selling while figuring out how to set this all up.
This is all working amazingly well! GG Bethesda!
A little more tweaking & I can go play for 3 days and come back to print $$ and XP when I want to push a few more levels I've unlocked the qualifications for.
Gg, I wish more games had a mass crafting system that worked So well!

I also love the wall trick. So, the enemies spawn outside of the outpost borders? Sounds like Bethesda fixed the "settlement' attack system from fallout 4. Walls are actually effective. I wish i could use your trick at my outpost. I didn't think walls were an option so i built mine at the top of a dead volcano. All the habs are on the ring with my ship builder in the center. I'm hoping the attacks spawn from the ground level. It will interesting to see them try to reach it. Took me 20 minutes of boost pack shenanigans to get the outpost up there.

    Sooooo...additional counter point.
What if you built a fortress with NO entrance, in which you can only access from the air, AKA landing pad? Would the raiders be able to use the landing pad?

I'm still pretty early in the game so I'm trying to go into this as blind as possible. One thing i am curious about though is do your defenses actually take care of any threats if you aren't there to actually take part in defending? One of the most annoying things about Fallout 4 is no matter how much you built up your defenses for a settlement, if you didn't show up to help defend it, it always lost ( at least as far as I could tell). I literally built walls completely surrounding some of these settlements and lined the walls with high powered defense turrets and they would still lose in a raid. I severely hope this is not the case in a game that literally spans light years.

Oh my god the noise of the three cargo links I have at one outpost are bad enough and I can't image the roar of six of them...

This is outstanding...shall I do this on Bessel III-b when I'm fresh out of the tutorial? lol. I don't even know what an armillary is.

There is a mission that you will come across and you have a few options regarding the armillary and how to protect it. It’s basically a beacon for bad guys to come steal it. The option you choose will determine where the bad guys will attack. We saw 2 of the options in this video. 👀

Great idea & video! All I need now is some 2x1's and some robots. Is that a skill up thing I have to do or am I just maybe missing it in the item build menu?

@vash, I am trying your build however when i remove containers the one above is left floating with no foundation below.
UPDATE: As stated in the video you have to delete the lower containers to get the foundation. I was moveing them which was causing me problems. Also fyi i found deleting them from the bottom up caused me less issues as deleting random ones caused different instances of the foundation in the same location making a whole different issue. On xbox btw.
