  • Join me for an ordinary day in the life of our homeschool. Sometimes in the day-to-day, we need to remind ourselves as moms that every day is a gift and our time with our kids is very short. Let's be intentional to live each day in light of eternity, stewarding the children the Lord has placed under our care.

Sheri, what a great video, this is so relatable and helpful, thank you! I just had baby #9 this past Saturday and spending time resting and listening/watching some of my favorite RUclipsrs. I just found you a few weeks ago, but you’re quickly becoming a favorite 😁 I just find your videos on homeschooling resonating so much with me and are so encouraging. I just really appreciate it and you’ve given me so much encouragement and inspiration for what I want to incorporate to simplify and help our routine. 😊💜

Just love your DITL videos. Do you implement a quiet time for the kids after reading? When do you take a break, Bible, reading etc. Thanks so much for sharing

      Thank you so much!
We did a quiet time after read aloud for several years...probably 10 or so. It was so important, especially when the kids were all little.
Currently, the dynamic is a little different with so many older kids. I still remind the kids that it's quiet time during the little ones' nap time, but it's more to remind them not to wake them up. I have 8 kids in the house who don't nap, so it's not exactly quiet time in the same sense that it was when they were younger. The older kids work on hobbies during this time and the younger ones usually read, play outside, do puzzles, lego's or card games or something like that.
After I read to the kids in the afternoon, I head to my room for a break. Recently I do my Bible reading in the morning, but over the years when I've had infants or when my kids were all little, I tried to do it in my first free moment.

Thank you once again, it's a blessing for me to watch your videos as usual. What do you do/say when your child tells you he/she would rather be in a public school and not be homeschooled ? Did it happen to you with any of your children?

      You're welcome! I'm so glad!
Great question! Except for a few small instances in the early years, this hasn't really been an issue for us. Having been a public school teacher, my kids know my perspective on public schools. It's not an atmosphere we want for our kids.
We've worked really hard from day 1 (plus the Lord provided in amazing ways) to provide our kids with a really supportive homeschool community. The kids don't feel like they're missing things. They have lots of friends from different circles, are able to go out a lot of places when other kids are in a building, are involved in extracurriculars, can learn at their own pace, etc.
Just the other day, we had beautiful spring weather here. We spent most of the day outside and our 13 year old said, "I feel bad for all the kids who can't be outside during the day."
Because homeschooling allows us to be individually focused on our kids, we can keep good tabs on where they are and what they need.

Thank you for such a real and inspirational video! I found tips to incorporate into our daily routine as well. Please can you let me know where those wooden bricks that kids are playing with at the end of the video are from. Thank you! 🙏🏻

You're so welcome! I'm glad to hear this inspired you!! The wooden blocks I found at a yard sale for $1 years ago, so unfortunately, I don't have a link to share where you can find them. My kids have gotten such great use out of them!

Weird question but - in the intro of this video, the cat is on top of the fire stove. I assume it is real and just hasn't heated up yet, right? I only ask because I'm on the hunt for an electric fake stove (that looks like the real one I had growing up ♥) and thought that just MAYBE it was fake. But probably not. If it is though, I would love the link to it, haha!

    • @OurLifeHomeschooling
      @OurLifeHomeschooling  Месяц назад +1

Yes, it is a real gas stove, not electric though. When it's turned off, the pilot light is on and keeps it warm, so he likes to sleep up there. I hope you can find what you're looking for!

Thank you! A real gas stove may be the answer for us!
Anyways, LOVE your content. Purchased the morning notebook. Love your simplicity but richness in your homeschooling. Taking so many notes!
