Jade! Thank you so much for this video! You made me realise that the job that I have now is the perfect next step for me after university. I have been job hunting for the last 8 months and in the end, I did not get the job I dreamt about. But you said that a job should be an extension of us and our values and I realised for the first time ever that my current job is an extension of me and my values. So truly all those rejections were redirections. Thank you, I needed to hear that! I love your videos and your mindset xx

I am loving this linkdin era video series because I (unfortunately) am also in my linkdin era (graduating in 3 months). And its so lovely to have a companion, a friend to do linkdin work with who hates that platform almost as much as I do. Misery really loves company.
Some things that I noticed and loved in this video:
    1. When you get all ranty and sarcastic and how your emotions are so clearly displayed in your emotions(You feel so real.)
    2. I realized how hard this must feel to you sometimes figuring things out. How hard it must be to allow yourself to be real and truthful to your own self, to be devoted with enough love for yourself that you allow yourself the time to find out the job that will fulfill you. A job that fills your cup not just empties it. Constantly having the conversation with yourself and telling yourself that "Its ok we're fine. We'll find a job. We'll find a house to call home. We'll figure this out." It takes strength. You have to be willing to work for yourself. I mean I always kind of knew it must be hard but I felt it in my bones while watching this time. If no one has given you credit for that I'd like to the first one to acknowledge this and say that, I see you. I hear you(the things that you don't say here). I see your struggles. I see your work. and I am SOOO Incredibly proud of you. You are strong and such a beautiful collection of stardust. Will always be cheering for you

I love how you talked about essentially hating LinkedIn and how you don't like selling yourself! I always assumed social media creators don't mind it or even enjoy it, so thank you for telling me the opposite!! Personally, I'm still at the stage of absolutely despising that platform because all I see are motivational posts and all the successes, and it just makes me feel like ✨shite✨. Also, I'm from Slovakia (but I did my undergrad in Edinburgh) and every Slovak loooves bragging...but only if you're actually successful (bear in mind that me having a "good" job in the UK would automatically mean I am), which I'm SO VERY FAR from (graduated last July and have been home ever since🤡), so essentially I have nothing to put on LinkedIn which just makes me feel like I failed, and selling myself is just painful (hence why I'm avoiding it when I genuinely should start looking for a job - in the events industry...so...networking is key....fml I guess 😭).

Aw I loved this video!! Brings me so much comfort to see someone my age trying to find their ikigai (never heard of it before but I'm realising that's exactly what I'm searching for, too). I'm from Sweden and let me tell you, we're also queeens of downplaying ourselves. We have a whole norm called jantelagen (the law of jante, literally called a law because I guess it's so culturally significant it's almost like a law) that describes how we downplay ourselves to oppose individuality and bragging etc etc. So interesting to hear about it from a British pov!

finding your personal branding is so so hard, especially in this fast paced society.
I am definitely in the the same phase as you but in a tiny town of 3000. so I find that inspirations are running VERY low especially for an extroverted person like me. I find that reading has given me so much time to slow down and reflect on myself, figuring out my 'brand'.
and YOU are truly my golden inspiration right now, and thanks to you, signed up for Spanish on Lingoda, LinkedIn glowup, and blog posts!

fully relate to the “pitching urself” bit. i grew up partially in russia and partially in the uk, and let me tell you the mindset you had around you even as a kid affects you so much. i still cannot rest without guilt because thats how slavic people are taught to be - just gogogo all the time. also a massive people pleaser (picked up from the uk hahah) so selling myself is basically impossible with this combination, because no matter how much i do i feel like i could have always done more and should not try to stick out. plus living in london hahah theres so many young professionals who have so many opportunities and have done so much more than me at a younger age. thank you for opening up this conversation jade, its very important to be self aware of how culture and upbringing and surroundings affect the way we end up engaging with the capitalist machine haha

Jade you are such an important voice on here - recent grads looking for jobs is something missing on social media and as someone going through this process I’m so happy I have someone I can navigate this path with. In terms of selling myself, I live in Australia and it is a very similar culture to the UK (where I grew up so I really have the best of both worlds ahaha) - spent a stint of my life in SG which is a lot more of a ‘brand yourself’ culture but it didn’t leave enough impact because it makes me highly uncomfortable.
Any advice for branding yourself when everyone around you feeds into the ‘self deprecation make yourself small’ energy? I’m in my last year at uni and people are so competitive but also get so many hints of resentment and jealousy when people are successful

I'm from germany and I resonated with people pleasing and down-playing as a women. For example I never felt comfortable sharing my grades if I knew they were good and high. But I also feel like my environment really values rationality and honesty. I feel like in the US also there's a very big culture of being self-deprecating. In certain circles people are constantly networking and "selling themselves" but it often feels fake and hollow, and even cringe at worst. That kind of fake confidence is obviously not the same as not downplaying achievements, but being humble or lowkey about it. It is possible, but not many of us know how to do it, or see it demonstrated. It's a hard balance.

I live in New Zealand, and here (as well as in Australia) we have what's often referred to as tall poppy syndrome. It's basically being criticised for being too successful. I totally get the struggle of selling yourself when growing up learning how to always be humble and I agree it's necessary to be able to clearly state our skills and be confident, but I still think the sweet spot is in the middle. If one day I hire someone I will value the humble folks, because they're usually the ones who smash it every time 😜 maybe I'm just not used to the other extreme but I feel that both people who deny they have any worth or ability and people who sell themselves as the new Jesus, are not being honest 😅

Love the video! (An advice, not to you but from my own photo shoot proces etc... ) To make sure to (if you want to "dress up", dress up for your DREAM job, in a way where YOU would hire you... Its so easy to fall back to some old idéa of "how it should look" or how to look "adult and professional". My kinda advice is to be the one you are and not push down your happy energetic side to try to look more "seriouse, adult etc" I think someone said be sincere but not try to be "stiffer" or whatever then you are in real life. Hm easy to missunderstand my comment. I mean do your best, have FUN, be "seriouse" but not instead of happy! Work ppl are normal ppl too. All that "Ali Abdaal" stuff.... To be genuinely you, be with happy energiceing ppl, do a GOOD job, but dont pretend to be tousend times more "adult/stiff" than you are. In my steriotyp thinking I saw ppl for example working in a banc as soooo seriouse and stiff ppl but they also might love to wear bright red, love their dogs and to play soccer in their freetime... So dont push away your happy side! You can do a good job AND be happy and "relaxed".... Agh Im not explaining what I mean in a clear way... 🙄 Haha now I saw you said exactly that in the end of the video... 😅❤

I’ve just realised there is a thing called RUclips hands - and your have them. I’ve seen lots of RUclipsrs lately use their hands in this particular way. I guess it’s an evolutionary development in expression and communication that has come out of being a RUclipsr and needing to connect and communicate with an audience….. maybe

I think a woman photographer would have been more appropriate. First, women have a different dress code and a different work aesthetic than men. Second, having a guy take pictures of a girl in her early twenties is cringy. RUclipsr Shelby Church for instance always had women photographers and helpers.

What is wrong with a male photographer taking pictures of a young girl? Those were professional circumstances and the pictures werent even nudes or boudoir or something lol

There’s nothing wrong with the photographer she selected. If she was uncomfortable she would have chosen someone else. I don’t think the gender matters it’s whether you like their style of photography, can fit into your schedule and are at your price point.
