I don't like LinkedIn as well, I hate advertising myself, talking about what I've done, about why I'm the greatest fit. It's so hard. But I'm trying to be better at it, and I think that's what counts for now hahah
Thank you Jade for sharing your journey with us! It makes me feel less alone in this path ❤

omg i am sooo apprehensive about LinkedIn as well 😭😭 it feels so weird to sell myself but at the same time I've found other people's content on there so helpful. it's been eons since I have written anything and maybe writing/posting on LinkedIn is something I wanna do?? but i just feel so unqualified and weird about asking people to listen/pay attention to me.
i hope I can glowup as well. this was so so encouraging to see ❤

  • @shiviara
    @shiviara 4 месяца назад +13

Honestly, I don't like LinkedIn, because it feels like the most fake social media. Everybody needs to glorify everything they did, be engaging and positive. There isn't really space for diverse content - you either share what you've accomplished or you share tips on how to do something you have experience in. Even when you try to be authentic on LinkedIn, you still need to keep the positive (and professional) tone, because you need to make a good impression. Also, posting on LinkedIn feels more like a chore to me - you did something career related, so you should share it, so it makes you look good for potential employees. 😩

Thus Video is so wholesome and somehow made me nostalgic. Watching you grow is amazing, from studying, to graduating, to taking a break and taking your sweet time to decide what you want to do with your life to finally creating a LinkedIn profile to search for your dream job that aligns with your conscience and core values. This is beautiful to watch. I wish you the best of luck! You are an inspiration. ❤

Yesss! Thank you so much! This is really what I need right now as I am finishing my masters in business psychology. I really don’t know what I want to do next year and I find myself constantly looking on LinkedIn. It can often feel like everyone is doing crazy things and doing a job they love. I feel a lot of pressure of finding the ‘perfect job’ and it feels like I have to compete with so many smart and strong people. So seeing that even you, with the fantastic resume that you have (and worked really hard for), can have doubts and worries, makes me feel less alone in this. Everyone seems to have figured it out but we aren’t all “so grateful to announce”. Thank you for sharing your journey!

Also I’m actually REALLY impressed with how you can see so clearly when you need a break to do something other than look for a new job. I didn’t believe that was an option because I was stressed, so I went straight into it and then got burnt out for real 😧 You’re so inspiring!🎉

Linkedin is how I got my first internship (and subsequent first engineering job) - its a grim place sometimes and I feel like even I can get a bit egotistical about my own life when I'm on there too much but as a student in their final year/a recent grad it is such a useful place to be. I ran a student women in aerospace group for about a year and I found so many amazing speakers from Linkedin, if you approach people like friends with cool jobs that you want to learn more about, it can be so healthy and quite frankly exciting!
please do make this a series! this is my job hunting year as well so would be so keen to walk the path with you :))

I'm super interested in the intersection of mindfulness and education too, and I've been using myself as a bit of a guinea pig!
I have been meditating consistently for the last 2 years, and in that time I have seen big improvements in parts of my life that have been vital for studying and being productive. I'm currently in my third year of studies, and I've noticed improvement in focus and decluttering my mind after I meditate, meditation has allowed me to give myself space and not get overwhelmed with things on my to-do list, but instead make a plan and stick to it. (Most of the time!) And most importantly, seeing the importance in taking time for my mental health. Regular breaks, scheduling in walks or exercise, and remembering to be kind to myself and patient when working out something hard.
There's still so much I want to learn about meditation, but so far it's been a wholly positive experience :)

You're defo not the only one who feels that way about LinkedIn. I also hate it.
If the idea of being perceived - and all the struggles that come with it - is uncomfortable, no wonder then that a platform built for networking (i.e. inviting and 'hunting down' others to perceive you in a certain way, moreso than on most other sites) is unappealing.
The fact you moved through that apprehension to achieve a goal you have shows your character.
I'm really grateful for this video because I need to use LinkedIn for my dissertation this year, and have been putting it off because of that same feeling. No more!
    Thanks Jade :^)

This job hunt has got me revamping my LinkedIn too. I too find it weird and sometimes cringe too. Ah yess girl I'm exactly like you I don't know how I would survive without meditation.. it just changes so much about how you go about your everyday life to have those 10 mins everyday where you clear your mind and your wntire job is to be and watch your breath.. I feel like I absolutely need that, as someone prone to overthinking and anxiety. It definitely also helps my focus, and basically I can gain control and decide where to put my attention instead of my mind driving it wherever it wants.. without it I'd probably crumble to stress and eventually maybe decide to care less.. to close my heart off from the world and just live like others seem to be living, mindlessly following what we're told and being somewhat ok with it.. But meditation gives me the reset I need to keep living in my own authentic way, even if life beats me up

The is sooo helpful! I'm too timid for networking, I have no self esteem and I want to change that this year. I want to DO something with my university degree, but it's a niche field and I have no plan yet. My breadwinner job changed literally last week, my old job was cut right from under my butt and I was placed somewhere else in the company. I have no le, what I'm doing, if I like it there even, what's expected of me and I'm anxious.

Hi Jade, it is exciting to hear about your intended career path and the impact that you hope to make, especially in the education sector. Would you ever think about working in the education sector itself? If not as a teacher, maybe as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant? Your knowledge can contribute a lot, but perhaps experiencing working in education itself, not as a student, may be able to help you with this. I get really frustrated with policymakers who have never spent a day working in a classroom. Just some food for thought. Love your content.

I'm still young but sometimes I feel like times flies too fast, that it isn't waiting for me, and that I need to act. Either way you're inspiring me everyday, especially this days with ✨casual magic✨
And I would love to follow your career hunting! Wish all the best!! Lots of love

LinkedIn Annoys me as well. I just hope I can keep going at the company I'm now with doing my master thesis. And then go from there.
Still, even then, it's probably smart to keep track of people I've met and like and stop people from forgetting me.
Do please make this into a (mini) series!

Maybe consider the job of educational quality analyst and adviser, you basically get to do research for schools to see where they could improve and then come up with strategy on how they could actually implement those improvements 😊

Hi Jade! love watching your videos. I mean the whole range of videos from productivity to mindfulness. You are such an enthusiastic personality. I would love to know how you started your interest in the education sector, like your interests, networking, and understanding stakeholders. As an Educator how do feel about it? I am also doing post-graduation in Education itself. From INDIA💌

Totally feel everything described here, still today as a 25 (almost 26) year old man I feel the somewhat uncomfortable feelings LinkedIn gives. I loved how you talked about being more human, but sometimes I'm also afraid to think about how others would perceive it, more childish/not professional/whatever else. Hmmmmm. Also struggle to, as someone with a job right now (more software engineering related), dedicate any sort of effort to platforms such as LinkedIn, even though I might need it someday. Grrrr!!!! 🤣😆

I love your videos. Grades btw do matter extreme, but you actually could do it. Which not everyone could. In the USA especially its so about GPA and grades, also especially in top jobs, like MD, or psychology, or other top. So in EU/UK we re so taught to have low grades, but in the USA its very important if one wants to be taken into Harvard, or other top schools and into Medical School and other top schools and jobs. Also, because they need often a PhD to have their own practice. So in cognitive neuroscience and education it is important, but that is best understood by the top that hires, or would collab with you, or if you want to get into those most special jobs, as not many achieve such grades, so only you they'll seek. Also if you want to publish in research papers, like APA (the American Psychological Association), it helps you have your own journal, or published already somewhere else. Also, as reviewer for APA they ll look at expertise in the field on topic, and what is published before somewhere else, and grades I can imagine do matter too. Everyone loves the top with best grades, because it is very important and the best knowledged one. You might like to join APA, because of your studies. Then, it is as grad student I think, because APA members are PhD psychologists, after a master you might like to get your PhD in psychology too, and could then be a licensed psychologist in the USA. Especially educational psychology or other divisions you might like. sso.apa.org/apasso/idm/apalogin?ERIGHTS_TARGET=https%3A%2F%2Fjoin.apa.org%3Fcampaigncode%3Dmemvip%26Dacquisition%26Dcampus-ambassador-referral%26Demail%26Dreferral%26D003C000002L5rw6IAB Also, you might like to be a campus APA recruiter for APA, or become a board member or leader in a division. There is also divisions for students, led by students. Every time the president of APA and leaders change in all divisions, so you do get a good chance over time to get such leading job. I can't wait where you ll go! So fun this time! So special a time too! So cute!
