- hello hello sweet friends!! aaaaaah the lisbon slow travel / remote work chapter begins!! in this lil vlog, I moved into my sublet, started unpacking, walked to the centre of lisbon to explore and tried to make friends by going to a Meetup event.
if you've ever moved to a new city alone, you know how TERRIFYING and lonely it can be -- so I'm trying to start on the right foot by already putting myself out there for social events ;)

hello friends!! 🦋 if you missed the memo, I’m spending the next few months in lisbon working a remote job :) me and my best friend at uni visited a few years ago and fell in LOVE with the city and promised that one day we’d spend more time here. And you know me: when I say I’ll do something, I always try my best to do it. 😌✨

I wish Lisbon was this fun for locals who work and/or study in the city but can't even afford to live there anymore... :( This is not sarcasm or anything, it is real frustration from a recent graduate whose options are: imigrate or stay here and earn an 800€/900€ salary that has to cover an 800€/900€ rent for a tiny room, plus all other expenses...
Anyway, the video is nice, I honestly hope you have fun while you're here!
As someone who's been in ruts many times and wanted to travel, good for you for travelling to Lisbon and embracing your freedom! Not only do you get to do that for yourself, but whenever people like me get stuck you're an amazing inspiration to keep going because you show what's possible and that things can get better if you keep at it in the long term. it is so inspiring seeing you have such freedom to be able to move to another country and experience that 🤍 i’m 19, just started uni and moved to a city not far from where i’m from in england so i’m loving living here but it’s nothing like moving countries. i remember when i was 14, going to morocco and loving it so much, the culture was so different and wishing i could just live there. i remember at the time thinking it was impossible to do, like i was from england and would permanently remain there. as much of a home bird as i am, i love that you show that isn’t true, you can move wherever you like if you work hard and want to do that. i definitely would consider this myself in years to come if i was in that position!

One thing I highly recommend in lisbon is going to cortiço & netos it's this little shop with vintage portuguese tiles. The owners are lovely and can explain so much about the history and their process it felt like going to a little museum!!! Also their tiles are super aoordable and a really nice gift!

Hi Jade! I'm a biig Lisbon lover myself, so here are some of my recommendations for you:
- Vegan Nata Chiado - mindblowing vegan natas, cheap vegan coffee, and a super sweet owner, I looove that place😍
- Leonetta (vegan pasta)
- Lupita (vegan pizza)
- Time Out Market (a big food quarter, vegan options available)
- Oakberry Acai - best acai OF MY LIFE🤯
- sunset from the castle (and other viewpoints)
- Tazza in Giro - good and cheap coffee and a flea market on saturdays right next to it
- BUS Paragem Cultural - wednesday evenings are salsa evenings, haven't been, but a friend is a big fan💃

Lisbon! What a spot
Omg you neeeeeed to try Flor da Laranja ! It's this delicious small and hidden restaurant (you need to book in advance though) where Maroccan food is cooked and brought to you by this incredible woman. She also picked the decoration and she plays old cds of her favorite music in the restaurant. It's sooo good, the food changes regularly and is homemade. Honestly it's one of my best memories of food ever (and I love eating haha). And it's very cheap for what it is. I went there with a friend and for two people it was 30 or 40, euros. Give it a try ! The lady owing the place is nice, chatty and speaks many languages :)
So happy that you are enjoying Portugal! I've only visit lisbon once (some weeks ago for the 5sos concert :D) so I dont really know any tips to tell you but I hope you enjoy it! Just letting you know a city to city bus company called flix bus is having huge discounts these days so if you want to travel around portugal give it a go!

Hey Jade, I moved to London (a new city to me) and have struggled to make new friends out with work. I have downloaded Meetup etc. but never really followed through… what tips do you have for getting myself out there? I do consider myself confident but something about meeting new people in a more casual setting makes me nervous, esp when I’m doing it alone!
Is it easier for you to meet just one new person at a time? You could for example meet someone through bumble bff, or maybe you could match with someone there who would like to go to a meetup with you so you don't have to do it completely alone

Strange differences in experiences. I just 2 weeks ago stayed in Lisbon for one week. And I absolutely hated it. Everything was covered with trash, and piss and homeless people were everywhere, graffiti was in trains and buildings and on ground and cars -total ghetto feel everywhere. I tried to go to different parts of city and areas and touristy spots also, but getting there was just repulsive. I don't know how they manage to live there with all this piss smell and piles of garbage. :( Probably the worst travel spot so far for me.
But people are different, and some have a higher tolerance for things like that. :(
I wish you all good in there, and hopefully can you find a spot or area what is well maintained and clean.
