  • Tying the Money Midge. A simple but effective midge larva that has been tested on Colorado’s pickiest trout. It uses “Slim Rib” to get a pronounced segmentation that holds up to fish.

    What hook do you use for this cool pattern?

    • @HopperJuan
      @HopperJuan  3 года назад +3

      In this video I am using a TMC 2488. In an upcoming video, I am using a Daiichi 1110 straight eye hook. The same as a TMC 101. Those are the only two hooks I use for this pattern.

    On what river/state do you dunk this midge ? Flies for the eastern US my not work in the western US waters.

    • @HopperJuan
      @HopperJuan  2 года назад +2

      I am in Colorado fishing the famous tailwaters. Midges East and West are the same and as long as fish eat midges, this pattern will work. I have lots of feedback from people back East who fish my flies and they thought they wouldn’t work but now they try to keep it secret. Fish eat small bugs everywhere!! People in Texas don’t only eat big steaks although that what we may think. They eat French fries also. Gotta remember that.
      Thanks for the watch and comment.

    Where can I get the slim rib? Is that the same stuff as vinyl rib type stuff?

    • @HopperJuan
      @HopperJuan  Год назад

      You can get a Slim Rib directly from me. It’s completely different and way better than the vinyl rib type stuff. It’s not even close to that crap. Send me an email at juan@anglerscovey.com

    What whip finisher are you using?

    • @HopperJuan
      @HopperJuan  3 года назад

      It's a standard Meterelli style whip finisher. Nothing really exciting but very useful.

    I'm currently tying this. I didn't have the MFC Light Brown thread, so I'm using Giorgio Benecchi's Tobaco colored thread instead. They seem really close. I think you mentioned Veevus in the video. Was that C12, which they call "tan"?

    • @HopperJuan
      @HopperJuan  6 месяцев назад

      The Veevus is 14/0, B10.

    • @schmoonkie
      @schmoonkie 6 месяцев назад

      @@HopperJuan I looked it up. Veevus B10 and Veevus C12 are their tan color. I think it would have made more sense for them to use the same number for the same color...

    Best time to fish is winter?

    • @HopperJuan
      @HopperJuan  Год назад

      Generally yes but don’t limit yourself to winter. Depending on where you are, fish eat midges 365 days a year.

      So.Utah!
      The river I fish 20" browns are no big deal and 25" happens several times a year. My personal best is a 30" tiger out of Panguitch Lake.
      All caught on tube jigs but I'm going to do more fly fishing from now on.

      Dave Gibson I do sometimes but it really doesn’t need it. Mainly on the whip finish.
