This is so true, being in China for two months to study Mandarin (not that anyone cares) and being told by complete strangers every day that you're doing really well makes you feel so special... and then you come home to normal life. Not so special anymore.
Haha, not so special anymore😂
Just simple "nihao" and you hear "OMG your English is soooo good!" or talking directly or indirectly about you "hen piaoliang a!". Or wanting to take pictures with you. Yeah, it's easy to feel special in China.
I've been back in my home country after 3.5 years in China and this is exactly the struggle I'm experiencing 😩 Anytime I see Chinese tourists I have the temptation to say something in Mandarin :D
KrisssK haha,你好😁
KrisssK no worries, your Chinese is good
Really??
你的中文很好哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈
I can relate with this after living in US for 3 years.
Muhaha, now it's time for revenge for all of the people that wanted to practice their English with me!
真是可怕 XD
Hahahahahahahah lmaoxDDD
Haha, yep! speak Mandarin all the time.
lol,6666
哈哈哈哈哈
"your Chinese is good" part really made me laugh so hard and it‘s music was so hilarious
Level up acheived.
its called 百鸟争鸣, ur welcom.
i feel like that in every country i go to . I go to a nightclub in Brazil and there are always Brazilian girl who will want to dance with me and start conversations. They are always amazed about all the cities in Brazil I know and they like listening to me speaking Portuguese. Then i go back to the USA and no one cares. Well sometimes if i meet Brazilans or people from South America they become excited. I got similar when i went to Chile and Peru. Learning to speak Spanish and Quechua tends to amaze the people there but then when you return to Houston Texas no one cares that i can speak Spanish and everyone gets angry at me and tells me to speak English It is the same story when i live in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and China. I am thinking i should make teaching English overseas a career because when I am in China I feel like a celebrity. When i go back to the USA I am a nobody again.
The only problem I have in Cambodia now is that it is too easy to fall in love here. Cambodian girls are definitely among the most beautiful women in the world and they always make you want to go back to them.
Omg that ending hahahaha
I died! LOL
I can totally relate to this!!! I remember when I was trying to find some Laowai on the street to practice English with. I was only waiting for the “Your English is so good”, it always made my day. Hahaha
不学无术我也发愁 but you do know that in most cases they are just being polite, right?
其实影片讲的并不是关于学习。中西文化差异很大,适应了中国生活的老外们突然回归到“自由”和“个人主义”的西方,会很怀念在中国的那种氛围。
Whoever thought about the Chinese music at the end is a genius
you get tons of these in chinese guichu
小放牛,it's played by a classic Chinese musical instrument
What would you call that music?
*threw about
Just because people in the comments section might be learning english from comments.
World-class editing. I nearly died laughing
I was in China for only 4 months, but after I got back home to Finland I was so miserable for a while. It got better after some time, but I definitely want to go back to China one day for a longer period of time.
@First Last TM 1999 you must be one of those famous al-righters with an asian fetist that everyone knows about when they see you but won't say to your face.
Olen kiinalainen ja asun suomessa
I feel as if everyone in the comment section can relate to this...I too am a 3 year veteran of mainland china....Ive lived in the USA for 4 years and still bring it up in conversation all the time haha
I’m Asian so I can’t relate haha but the video is still hilarious
I get told that I'm obsessed with China. I lived there for ten years and have been back in the UK for five.
How do you pick up the language? Did you just learn it while you were there? Did you take lessons?
@@heftyglorps1387 I was going to school at the time because my father worked for a company which needed him in China, at school we had Chinese class and plenty of helpful chinese classmates to help me in my free time. Now I've been in the states for 8 years or so and desperately look for an excuse to use mandarin haha, its easy to forgot.
hahaha the taichi in the subway was gold!
Hey, I'm a new subscriber. It's really impressive how much time and effort you guys put into shooting and editing your videos. You definitely deserve more recognition and views!
Welcome and thanks!
Sven are you the soccer player?
Haha, no, unfortunately not
But then there's also that reverse feeling. When you don't want them to know that you understand because it feels like eavesdropping. Like in the bus or on the street. You just quietly smile into the distance, while understanding everything they say.
makes so much sense, when u put in sooo much effort.. I never knew it was possible to describe that feel of nerd-celebatory-glory.. kudos!
Ahhhhhahaha. The ending was the bomb
Lol terrible true! Back home after 24 yes in China, here any Chinese I meet never care of my chinglish 🤣😂🤣😂🤣🙁😘
allegra1952 I think Chinglish means English with a Chinese accent. Not Chinese with an English accent.
u can say it in both way , chinglish=Chinese+English ,haha
@@juuue4550
It's not an accent, it's a mixed language
english word in Chinese grammar.like 'long time no see'
Spend some time in Flushing. Jaws on the floor wherever I go.
This is quite realistic. The way overseas Chinese tend to react to people like this. Now I rarely talk to them, they just want to be left alone when traveling or studying overseas.
James Uddin yes this is the general response, except for some chinese people travelling overseas for the first time who even take pictures of all the natives secretly haha
Well, if u talked to me, I would always respond politely, I like communicating with people, so it really depends.
As an Asian, I need to say that it was because of the culture on Asian.
Part of Chinese culture and education is "you don't speak to strangers". I know in US it's only for kids, but in China most of us carry this teaching through lifespan.
⋯⋯truth to be told, they don’t actually want to be left alone... It just that it’s weird and awkward to talk to strangers even if you have been to China be4... And the possibility is that they think you are hitting on them and they are not interested.
I had few funny situations as well:
December 26th 7am morning, a Chinese tourist stops me on the street in Zagreb (Croatia) asking me in English where's the main square, I told him "如果你是中国人的话 , 你尽管说中文 “。 My father was following the conversation, he couldn't believe I speak Chinese :D
Livio Defranza 克罗地亚 萨格勒布 cool football shirt, Game of Thrones shooting location, Mirko Cro Cop, 哈哈牛逼!
that time when I visit the Zagreb I said: when im going to retire, imma gonna stay here.
that sounds kinda cool:D
Imagine he say “I’m Korean”😂
*你的中文很好*
谢谢:)
谢谢你
Lol, stalking those poor girl
“Every day he drinks 12 Diet Cokes.” Hahahahahahaha
I am relating to these recent videos so much xDDD Currently living in a tiny s...hole in Europe, randomly talking Chinese to myself, forgetting the name of local food and places. I miss China so much Q_Q.
Why don't you go back then? Makes no sense. Also, where do you live in Europe that's a shithole?
Going back soon! Also, had to go back for family reasons, in Poland now and it suuuucks. But to be fair, no other country I've been to compares to China. Next time, I won't leave China
Why not? Have you been there?
@@alexachen9728 yes you will.
Ganz toll gemacht.
Great making. Thank you very much. At moment I‘m in Shanghai. I try to introduce my Chinese into daily life. Mamahuhu is very helpful - especially the episode about the Laowai Baoan.
Ausländer-Parkwächter is brilliant, but my chinese friends don't understand why it's so hilarious :D
Guy eating the burger with chopsticks and it falling off. LMAO
great ending!
Yes, I agree! And it must be a lot of work. The choice of the music is superb.
Tea scammer in China, Diet Coke scammer in the US 😂
Hahaha. Love you guys humor!!!...." where is the Brooklyn Bridge?" "Is over there"...“Your Chinese is good"...Then friends zone!!! Love the reaction!!
This is amazing. You guys are going places.
In Ghana they care tho!!Nice video
WODE MAYA big star is here!
Haha
mista ghana baby!!!
Aya maya
Honest and true and fun ! No racists or insulting other culture! I sub it!
I literally died
How did you type this comment then?
RIP
Yep.... Definitely worth 13 rewatches
I miss so much speaking chinese.. I'm soo Like them x)
It's relatable to those who love and learn a language so hard, even move to live in the country of that language for some time. For anyone who has not tried to study a foreign language, it may not be so relatable. Learning a foreign language is no easy task.
We care our foreign languages more than our native tongues.
Lol, they are always telling this just to cheer ya up. Even if your Chinese sucks)
lol Wow you guys are getting so good at making videos~ I watch every video you make immediately and multiple times. Thanks and keep going!!!
The reality is after the thousandth time you said xie xie and were told "your Chinese is good" lao wai become numb totally numb to that. The reality is when you return to North America with your Chinese Wife, your 5 year old mixed daughter, when speaking with CBC using Mandarin, talking about Chinese Geographical locations etc. They will understand your Mandarin perfectly, however repeat (correct) what you've said using an overly excessive unnatural volume on the tones, then they will encourage you to try the "real" authentic Chinese food they are eating. I'm guessing they figure when you were over there you only ate at McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Starbucks and learned your Mandarin from those Menu's?
That’s why I’m always hesitant to even talk to a chinese person or practice my Chinese with them. I don’t wanna end up looking like those guys in any way. Lol
ZirakuDO talk with me
Lol first part _what creeps
Second part _happy weirdos
😛😂
i can relate. i lived in ethiopia and jordan for four years each and now i’m back in america and it’s weird. american highschool is the worst.
Finally, an actually funny Mamahuhu video. Took you guys long enough.
Nice back-handed compliment!
That 白鸟朝凤 moment though
Tbf, this will totally be me when I come back 😂
"Your Chinese is Good" 😂😂🤣😅 That was hilarious lolol
LMAO. THE FUCKING EFFECTS IM CRYING
The guy gets cross eyed at the end lol. Funny stuff right there
I never would have imagined in 2007 that I'd be watching content of this high quality on RUclips! Now let me tell you about the time I used to live in Kobe, Japan....
r/china in a nutshell
r/China is literally just disgruntled Western expats desperately shitting on China and promoting anti-Chinese sentiments. Probably to rationalize their own negative experiences or failure by making it all "the government's" or "Chinese people's" or "Chinese culture's" fault.
@@lynth Yep. Sums it up pretty neatly
I totally get this one. In China I’d actually get annoyed hearing “你的中文很好” 20 times a day. When I was on holiday In Spain, I spoke in Chinese to a shopkeeper. She didn’t even bat an eyelid and presumably thought that this was the most normal thing in the world! Im obviously not Chinese or East Asian so there’s no way anyone could remotely confuse me for being Chinese.
You guys are too talented. Same thing nobody in china care about me have lived in the states too
This deserves more views.
omg this is one of the funniest shorts i've watched in a while
Oh, I know this feeling!!! Just like that)
holy shit, this is really good. Great job guys!
When someone would say my Korean is good I would scoff and laugh... They say that to anyone over there.
Lol I’m always delighted to talk to someone who can speak Chinese in the UK.
Omg, I’ve been missing this channel in my life, I now feel complete. Hilarious!
wow the editing has improved so much since 2014! I didn't like the channel back then but woah can't wait for new videos
Mamuhuhu, your videos are great! I've never been to China, but lived in another country for a while and can totally relate all these feelings of ex-foreigner. Thank you for your humour:)
When I was in Boston, there was this group of Chinese people(it also looked like they had a foreign friend who could speak Chinese) and they were blocking the entrance to the bar. People doing this is annoying. This isn't something that just Chinese people do, everybody seems to do this when they are in groups. But these guys were Chinese so I actually see if I could use my Chinese on them and they were shocked.
Me: (Chinese) Hello
Chinese person: (Chinese) Hello
Me: (Chinese) What are you guys doing?
Chinese person: Whoaahhhh!!!!!
Me: (Chinese) You know, people need to walk through here
Chinese person: (Chinese) He's speaking Chinese!
Me: (Giving up speaking Chinese) People walk here! You're in the way of everything!
Chinese person: (English) Oh, no! It's okay.
Me: (English) C'mon, people need to walk through you.
There was a security guard that noticed the conversation and people aren't so supposed to be lingering in front of stores anyway so he politely told them to leave.
I guess the point is that my experience wasn't exactly like the video, haha
Those music are right on the point
oml you got me dyingggg with the chopsticks eating shack burger hahahaha
This is too real omg
This is really one of the best comedy channels I have ever seen.
Fucking awesome video guys!Loved every second.I was dying at the end :D
I don’t know about others, but when I was traveling in United States, I was always impressed by those Americans who can speak Chinese.
same when i go back to China
You guys are genius! keep it up!
first 3/4ths of video: these two are awkward as cruddddd.
last part, omg, whoever did this video-editing, AMAZING. so well-done.
(also, funny. )
thx alot for this special five minutes. literally this video explained everybody who lived in foreign country for quite long. 😂😂👍🏻
Hahaha, I wasn't really feeling anything throughout the video but the ending fucking killed me.
HaHAAAHA HA who is playing that hilarious reed flute??
That ending was some class stuff. Dayymnnnn
Oh god. The ending killed me.
Saw this video and subscribed right away.
This is the best video on the internet (for people who have been to asia)
I just came back from studying abroad for just one semester in Beijing, and I get this feeling so much! Although not as cringy as those two guys... I hope..
I was at a restaurant one time and I was struggling to order foods, and after saying the least possible, the waitress said in Mandarin, "You're Chinese is fantastic!" and I was like TAKE THAT BACK YOU KNOW MY CHINESE IS LAJI (GARBAGE)
THIS IS THE GREATEST VIDEO EVERY MADE
- SINCECERYLY A LAOMEI WHO NEEDS TO HEAR MY CHINESE IS GOOD AT LEAST TWICE A DAY TO LIVE!!!
In japan it’s not a real compliment when the locals say your japanese is good.
Omg can't breathe xD
i guess you can say their opinion about your chinese skill is just..
*MAMAHUHU*
This was a real gem, wow.
laughed so hard but also a bit 心疼
the ending cracked me up hahahha
In the UK people ask why I ever came back. From China that is.
Hey so-so, after being in China a few times, When i am home, no one ask me about China. Sometimes i can't help myself and i relate to things in China. Mostly they don't like it.
The editing. Soooo good!!!!
It's super awkward and funny at same time!😂😂😂😂😂😂
always forget the Ba! haha that killed me right there
I cringed so hard during this video but it was still great. I laughing on the inside about how speechless i was hahaha. The ending was funny as well.
lmao
this one in the very back was hilarious
Love it! So true
After a decade over there, I took it as a compliment when people pretty much stopped complimenting my “good Chinese”. Regardless, that ending was brilliant.
This is more relatable than it should be.
I don't speak Chinese but this is completely true with the languages I do speak.
Guilty as charged. Tried living in the US (we lasted about 6 months) after living in Korea for 5 years and perked up every time I found a Korean. Now I live in China and will inevitably do the same damn thing if/when I return home.
I remember all my Chinese-American friends would never tell me any words in Chinese. They’d just stare at me when I asked.
Everytime I miss China, I watch this video
In daily life, I always have the urge to tell the Chinese students at my university HELLO I LIVED IN CHINA DO YOU WANT TO BE MY FRIENDS
Fantastic. A really good expression of the same feelings I have.
Watching videos like this warms my heart. Are there any sinophiles living in Vancouver? We can meet up, haha!
