During my year in China, I would walk through a nice little park every morning on the way to the subway, and every morning you could hear/see the same little old Chinese lady standing on the bridge, calling out from the bottom of her lungs. Hard to believe such a tiny old lady could make such a powerful sound, she must've had years of practice! With her voice piercing the misty morning air and the sky lit up with the rising red sun, it felt like I was in the opening shot of the Lion King!
In Korea you can see the elders walking backwards and hitting themselves everywhere too haha if you go up in the mountains you can see many of them hitting themselves against trees too! xD
I strongly recommend walking and running backwards *uphill and up slopes* without shoes but with two pairs of socks. Sprint, walk, jog up and down the steepest bit of road/pavement you can find locally. Interrupt with some press-ups and rubber-band upper body stuff. I like to hook bicycle inner tubes around metal poles or lamp-posts etc - pull and tug hard various ways circa 20 reps..then back to retro-running up the hill/slope. It gives a far more intensive, faster run+workout than just going for a fartlek jog around the neighbourhood. PS. bicycle inner-tubes of various widths and lengths last far longer than exercise bands. Paul G
i love how you pick up on the subtleties of chinese/shanghai culture such as hot water, the cats outside shanghai apts, slapping the body and walking backwards. i realized but never really thought twice about any of these phenomena
I was on an early morning walk the other day and some old dude started screaming at the top of his lungs over the side of the bridge. I thought he was going to jump. He just kept walking and screaming over the side every so often. Know I know why - thanks. =)
I love Adam 💕 and his calm and suave personality and the consistency of using him to promote these Chinese health secrets - so funny! Your endings are everything 🤦♀️
I started walking backwards because I read that 100 steps backwards equals to 1000 steps forward but I however don’t believe it because I don’t feel like I’ve burned anything when I walk 1000 steps backwards (equalling 10,000 steps forward) compared to the times I’ve walked 10,000 steps total.
Makes perfect sense! Especially for balance and developing awareness as you age. No mention of bumpy sidewalks? Especially in really ancient cities (Xi'an)? Sidewalks where there are pebbles deliberately incorporated into the cement? Walk barefoot or with cloth sandals and your feet are exercised as you walk... Thet got it all figured out, these Chinese...!
Please keep it up! =) this is one of the best channels about china and the sense of humor is on point! i can see it is not easy but i believe the only way for this channel is up! =D
I agree. It also makes for some timely humor as in having national politicians shave their respective butts and learning how to walk backwards toward their home state and then staying there.
In Taiwan I was sitting in the park and an old lady came up to the tree next to me and started rubbing her butt against the tree really hard for 20 minutes straight. To say I was shocked would be...
Your facebook link isn't working. I wish to contact you to ask a question, i'm interested in your merch but was wondering if theres a way to buy somewhere in China? I assume it gets made here? Can I not just wechat pay and get it delivered in China :P ? (Guizhou)
your videos are nice, I try to find them on weibo, but unfortunately it's not available, why not post them on weibo? I believe they are going to be very popular
2:20 🤗 Like clock work a beautiful Asian lady and I would end up in the sauna together. She would ALWAYS sit/stand hitting her thighs ans legs. Towards the end she would move to her arms, lastly massage her decolletage area. She looked great!
Noemi Tomaz the hot water tip is widespread across many cultures and they still follow it. As someone who suffered from stomach issues, I know that cold water slows digestion. Thats why hot soup is recommended by convential medical doctors too during such illness. The beating of thighs is replicates the vibrations given by a TENS unit. You will only feel any difference if you're in great pain like an old person or someone who has sciatica or similar issues and is young. A pair of young healthy people mocking these methods because of age bias towards elders is definitely juvenile to me.
That stretching scene happened to me 2 weeks ago! I'd done a steep walk, was looking to stretch, this lady, 50-60, got to my spot first, and started slapping her thighs! She was still slapping when I'd finished my stretches.
Do old people in Shanghai also say that hocking, spitting, screaming at the tops of their voice during a normal conversation or while on the phone, shoving on the metro, and not waiting in line are also Chinese health secrets? Because they all seem to do them an awful lot..
After drinking hot water, this guy de-aged from 53 to 45.
Yes!

It really works. Try it especially for old people with back pain (me).
As an older adult, I was cautioned to place one hand on a railing or counter while walking backwards.
As soon as he said "Chinese ancient mountain and sea scriptures", I knew we would be in for a treat 😂😂
If you're in a restaurant and can see limescale floating on top of your hot water, you just know it's good for healthy.
Haha, totally forgot about the whole walking backwards thing, great as usual, esp ending!
I love Adam 💕 and his calm and suave personality and the consistency of using him to promote these Chinese health secrets - so funny! Your endings are everything 🤦♀️
The Erhu music in the background is quite fitting.
This place is like 10 minutes from my home...this made me homesick

靠树背其实是一种按摩啦,可以帮你放松肌肉,活化血流之类的,要用力而且充满节奏才可以。
向后走要把手甩开,前打一次后打一次。
At 4:05, all I could think of was Full Metal Jacket..."Show Me Your War Face!"
I tried it once, fell over hit my head. Never again.

There's a guy in my Beijing neighborhood who slaps a tree.
I agree. It also makes for some timely humor as in having national politicians shave their respective butts and learning how to walk backwards toward their home state and then staying there.

Noemi Tomaz i am in my late 20s and soon early 30s
how many times has matt been run over now? that can't be good for healthy
If walking backwards would be good for you then the knees would bend the other way. I know this is way too much logic.
What an idiotic thing to say. Do you even know how the human body works?
How many car hits can you F*** survive?
Jesus has me backward walk all the time to heal me
Lol funny

So if you write down what you see and hear around you, you get called an idiot. I guess I'm an idiot then..
