    I used to notice an older man walking backward at the park. So I started doing it a few months ago. It is amazing. Thank you for your clear excellent video!

      Great instructions. Can a treadmill be used for walking backwards?

      @davidherringgo I guess slow and careful.I don’t know if I would recommend it.I don’t think it needs to be done long distance like going for a walk. Just the sort of distance I am doing in the video to figure the pattern out and feel it.

    Kneesovertoesguy always encourages this practice. It is fun to do it on a treadmill, which he calls 'deadmill'. In which you walk backwards on the conveyer belt, with the treadmill completely off.

    You know how tv show athletes walking in the tunnel before games in their regular clothes? I saw a Boston Celtics Basketball player who had a very noticeable smooth walking gait. It was Jayson Tatum. He has a very smooth style of walking is what intrigued me to learn more into such a common activity.

    Hey Todd Martin , I think that forward leaning is an hamstring issue because the hamstrings are used when we pull to walk , not push to walk.

    • @ToddMartinMD
      @ToddMartinMD  2 года назад +1

      Everything starts in the core. Hamstrings don’t cause us to lean forward. Everyone uses the hamstrings to pull forward during the loading response phase when the knee flexes. The forward lean starts as the very first intention, even before the legs have done anything. It comes from the flexion of the upper waist muscles.

    What an immediate leap in understanding. No practice. I understand walking uphill backwards is strengthening of the hamstrings possibly.

    • @ToddMartinMD
      @ToddMartinMD  Год назад

      Glad to hear it. I don’t think walking uphill backward would be more effective for the hamstrings than doing it forward. It would still be the glutes of the pushing leg doing the work of pushing the body up and the quads of the leg on the upper part of the hill eccentrically contracting to prevent the knee from collapsing. The hamstrings wouldn’t be pulling the. icy up the hill if that is the assumption.
