I was in Italy when a french guy tapped me on my shoulder to start a conversation which ended up him inviting me to France and Paris. I am still endeared and grateful to him for those memorable times, though we sadly lost contact through the years as life passed on.

The only territory who is ""owned"" by France is New-Caledonia, all other french oversea territory are part of France, and also the french people who live in french overseas territories tend to be the more nationalist one, so never say that they are french owned, they hate that 😄 And btw, in the case of La Réunion, the indigenous folk of La Réunion are actually the french, it was an inhabited island, so in this case it's a truly 100% french territory.
