  • In 2012 between March 15th and June 27th Norfolk Southern Railway entered 20 heritage livery locomotives into service. 10 of these were built by EMD and the other 10 made by General Electric. These were all predecessor livery's of the railroads that made up the railroad. The "commemorative unit" as Norfolk Southern called them were to celebrate the railroad's 30th anniversary. It took me around 4 years to get them all, the Norfolk Western engine being my 20th. I've started the video with NS 8025 leading train 177 in Ft Wayne Indiana. This was filmed in June 2017, I had gotten this engine 2 other times but this was my first good shot. For the rest of the video I count up numerically rotating between EMD and GE models. These are just clips but the whole video's can be forund in my Heritage Units Playlist • Heritage Units Norfolk...
    The other 19:
NS 1056 Savanna and Atlanta 6:08 CSX train Q385 at Upper Sandusky Ohio
NS 8098 Conrail 6:50 Q386 on CSX near Avilla Indiana
NS 1066 New York Central 7:48 loaded coal trail 858 on the Sandusky District
NS 8099 Southern Railway 8:22 at Bellevue train 25V
NS 1067 Reading 9:31 train 169 at Mansfield
NS 8100 Nickle Plate Road 10:09 CSX K042 crude oil train at State line on the Garrett Sub
NS 1068 Erie 10:44 intermodal train 218 at Marion Ohio
NS 8101 Central of Georgia 11:25 intermodal train 218 at Payne Ohio
NS 1069 Virginian 11:37 mixed freight train 145 at Roanoke Indiana
NS 8102 Pennsylvania Railroad 12:11, I've included scenes from Mansfield and Crestline since this coal train was running on the former PRR Ft Wayne Line
NS 1070 Wabash at Ravenna Ohio 13:33
NS 8103 Norfolk Western 14:06 at Eaton Ohio on autorack train 282
NS 1071 Jersey Central Lines 14:42 mixed freight 10E on the CF&E east of Delphos Ohio
NS 8104 Lehigh Valley 12:57 mixed freight 12Q at Runnion Ave in Ft Wayne Indiana
NS 1072 Illinois Terminal 16:09 intermodal train 21Z at Toledo Ohio
NS 8105 Interstate 20:43 Triple Crown roadrailer at Leipsic Ohio
NS 1073 Penn Central 18:05 mixed freight 12V at Mansfield
NS 8114 Norfolk Southern 18:47 mixed freight 15N at Oak Harbor. By far the best consist with UP 2001 Olympic Torch Relay followed by CP 9758 (AWR 777 in the movie unstoppable) and a UP SD60.
NS 1074 Lackawanna 19:42 mixed freight 169 at Marion Ohio
I conclude the video with NS 8099 Southern Railway running DPU on the rear of 64R at Bryan Ohio

I think it's awesome that NS remembered their past with all of those units. It brings back so many memories, thanks Scott.

Great video! I caught all 20 about 2 weeks ago. It took me about a year, but some were webcam shot, so i need 9 more in person.

Nice compilation, as usual. But I think maybe your best one was in Marion, five engines, five different paint schemes, representing five different companies, one train.

Thanks for this vid! I’ve so far only seen 2 (In 4 months) but I’m using this app where people report the heritage and can put info like direction, train numbers, etc.

What a gorgeous collection of history! Most of those I had seen in their earlier days, but that Monongahela one was new to me. Hats off to NS for maintaining these beautiful beasts as they once were!
16:09 - where did you film that? Was it close to downtown? It's making me crazy because I hear a clock tower in the background and I can't place it!
I like that beaten-to-hell abandoned factory in Mansfield. Looks like it should be in Toledo. 😂

Thanks. The clip at 16:09 was taken on the Mamee Ave overpass in Toledo between the Amtrak station and Mega yard.

I've only seen three in person:
    August 8th, 2016 - 1071 in Sterling, OH
    August 22nd, 2016 - 8100 in (surprise!) Bellevue, OH
    October 20th, 2017 - 1069 in Sterling, OH
Maybe I'll see some more heritage units on my July 20th-23rd birthday jaunt through Bellevue, Deshler, Fostoria, and Marion.

Scott Taipale The 1071 and 8100 caught me by surprise, but I did find out about the 1069 via the Heritage Units website.
