Norfolk Southern's 20 Heritage Units Leading!

- All 20 NS Heritage Units in one video! All leading!
For our first video of 2019, we'll look back at all 20 Norfolk Southern Heritage units. These clips were shot between 2015-2018 during various seasons here in Pennsylvania along Norfolk Southern's Harrisburg Line, Reading Line and Port Road Branch. I will put timestamps and train information further down below in the description.
I meant to upload a video like this awhile back, but the N&W took me a long time to finally catch. It is hard to believe these have been around for almost 7 years! In 2012, Norfolk Southern decided to roll out 20 heritage paint schemes on new GE ES44AC and EMD SD70ACe locomotives that commemorate the historical railroads that make up the present-day rail system. These locomotives have been popular among railfans since then.
I tried to use all original content, but a few of these catches were from the "Trains on the Norfolk Southern Harrisburg Line" series, so I apologize for the redundancy. I did touch up / remaster those clips since I first posted them. Depending on how many I catch again this year, I may make another 20 heritage units video if you like this one!
Please like the video and comment your thoughts below!

How ironic is it that this video is EXACTLY twenty minutes long?
One minute per heritage unit
Amazing how many of these shots were in perfect light. Great job.
Thank you!
The Conrail (8098) Shot Was Beautiful! Great Work!

I'm about to complete CNJ, as I recently completed S&A
Awesome video!! NS train 11R(East Deerfield MA to Enola PA) has NS 8104 leading. It was reported to in Schaghticoke NY at 09:57 hrs
Amazing catches! So far I’ve only caught the N&W unit, as well as 5669 (Operation Lifesaver unit) and Amtrak 642 (Veterans unit).
I've seen four of them - Jersey Central 1071, Nickel Plate Road 8100, Virginian 1069, and Lackawanna 1074 - in that order. Oddly enough, only the 8100 was seen on NS - leaving the ex-NKP yard in Bellevue, no less! As for the three SD70ACe's, they were all seen passing through Sterling, Ohio, on CSX trackage. I narrowly missed (by about 15 minutes) the Conrail 8098's first revenue run through my hometown of Wooster, Ohio, back on March 20, 2012. (EDIT: On August 8, 2020, I saw the Southern 8099 lead a train into Bellevue... AND I got it on video - the FIRST heritage unit recorded!)
Excellent video, I'm watching this in Scotland. I love all the different paint schemes from former rail companies. This must have cost a fortune to repaint all they locomotives.
Thanks for watching! They have been painted like this for 7 years now. Some are starting to look ratty, who knows how long they may keep them around.
8099, 1067, & 1069 are repainted and pretty so far! More will be soon
@@NS6711... Yeah plus NS 1074 is next to be repainted as well!
Impressive to have them all and well shot! That’s a LOT of hours invested…great video.
Thanks for sharing! I live a mile from the original Norfolk southern rail track . It’s dead now ,tracks but no trains . Glad you have rail action so I can get my hit 😂
No problem, thanks for watching!
I just recently caught the PC unit on video for the first time ever to complete my 20 for 20, so I'll need to start work on my compilation eventually, and even if that means repeating some of my old clips I've already got on here. ;-) Great stuff.
By the way that Conrail shot is amazing
Thanks, that's one of my favorite shots too. Nice to hear you also got all 20...that PC unit is looking a little, uh, well...it resembles the Penn Central very well ;-)
Ironically 1073 was my 20/20 too😂
This was a fantastic video! Very well edited, clips kept short and to the point. Also great videography and awesome subjects. Love the heritage units.
Thanks!
THE best collage of the heritage units by far. That's the way you honor them, they always lead. They made what NS what it is today. Never forget!!
Amazing footage of these beautiful locomotives!
I really loved the afterhorn of ES44AC 8101 Central of Georgia Heritage Unit
It's called the doppler effect
@@TexansRailfan are you Jacob Railfan
@@AGSSouthRailfanner no but my name is jacob
@@TexansRailfan oh ok
Engines of beauty and you managed to catch all 20! My luck, only 1 in three years on both the Union Pacific & BNSF in all three SoCal passes...Cajon, Tehachapi & San Timoteo.
I guess it would be harder to see them out there. Just like it's not common to see the UP heritage or Olympic units here, although I did catch UP 2001 one time, but I have not shared that shot.
The dedicated railfan. He catched 20 NS heritage units all leading
Love the Conrail! What pretty blue!
I’ve seen Erie Lackawanna, Illinois Terminal, Virginian, Erie, Central of Georgia, Original NS, Monongahela, Penn Central, Lehigh Valley, and NS 1030
Outstanding video! Awesome work!
Thanks!
Your Lucky to Catch all of the NS heritage Units!
Great job compiling everyone of these. Impressive. My favs are Southern and Norfolk and Western.
(Might have been ice to include small subtitle specifying which RR is represented.)
Awesome video!! I’m 12 of the 20 heritage of units thru
I loved the Conrail scene with the Conrail blue both on the engine but also the interlocking box. Seeing the really brought be back to the good days
Great video. Fine effort. Sound is excellent too!
Great Video! I saw the Lehigh Valley heritage unit once!
Outstanding video
All of them in one video! You just gained a subscriber, my friend
Thank you!
Out of all 20 heritage units, my top 3 favorites are Original NS, Central of Georgia, and Conrail.
That's awesome, my favorite is the Reading because the tracks here are former Reading Railroad.
Interesting
My favourite is the Virginian
I like 1071 and 8099 the best
My 3 favorite heritage units in order: 1. Nickel Plate 8100, 2. Southern 8099, 3. Lackawanna 1074
Excellent video!
The videography is really well done
Okay I don't know how I missed your right up and the list thank you for putting that list up there
No problem, thanks for checking it out!
Norfolk southern heritage units moving nicely
Great video bro
In this video all twenty heritage units look sharp
I’ve seen the Virginian, Monongahela, Norfolk and Western, Savannah and Atlanta, and Lehigh Valley all on accident!
got a interesting story on how i got to see the conrail engine! spotted it sneaking past the Cresson PA rail cam! did not even notice it at 1st until someone in the chat mentioned it!
Great video, beautiful trains. I loved the color on the Illinois engine. I've never seen white tanker car's, those weren't oil were they.
They are indeed oil cars. Most of these white tank cars are in storage or not currently in service.
10:00 Pennsylvania Railroad heritage unit Nice Train video.
I've seen four the Conrail, PRR, New York Central and Bee Line Service which I saw about four weekends ago in Harrisburg
Nice, the PRR went through here leading this morning. I did not see it though.
awesome!
Very nice! I’m personally only missing NS 1071 and 1074. Pretty much every unit you got in great lighting with the exception of three in my opinion, all three of which are some of my favorite units in the fleet. (NS 1067, 8098, and 8103)
Well 1071 & 1074 are stored in Altoona pa.
@@NS6711 I thankfully have got all 20 now but 1074 is stored too? That makes 4 now…
@@iLoVeSD70Ace35 I'ma probably go there for all of them.
@@NS6711 If you haven't seen any of those 4 yet then I would.
1:20 MY BABY!
Great video! I have never seen any NS Heritage units before in person... :(
Hopefully you will catch some soon! Have you seen any other special units like the GO Rail or 911?
@@CentralPennRailProductions No I have not seen the other special units...

great video what's your favorite heritage unit
Great video!! Now if CSX would get on board with the Heritage units. They have a lot of different paint schemes they could do.
Thanks! I don't think they have any plans to paint any heritage units, but the 911, 1776, and 3194 are a good start!
I have 1066, 1069, 1070, 1074, 8098 and 8102 (I just got into the big leagues like Heritage units and train IDs so thats why I have not many)
Will you get NS #1073

@@amjkodaz What about 8114
Ok I literally just said my list
@@amjkodaz Please don't be rude to me I asked if you had NS #8114
I like how the video is 20 mins long, very awesome video, I have got 9 out of 20
Well now you got em all
Next challenge. All NS heritage units leading on foreign lines
1:24 1040 is everywhere, lol, even i caught it and it was under warranty
The heritage units I have seen so far is New York Central, Nickle Plate Road, Central Of Georgia
3:40 CSX GEVOS!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed watching your video. May I please ask the location of where you caught the Erie? Single track, and it sounds like a grade?
That is Blandon, PA on the Norfolk Southern Reading Line. The grade is 1.1%
Iv been looking for new video cameras what type camera do you use?
*Cool Awesome*
Es44ah contrail and Southern are cool
Ive seen 6 heritage units, nickel plate, monongalea, central of Georgia, Penn central, erie, and savanna and Atlanta. Didn't get any of them on camera though
My first was the New York Central and since it looks almost like a normal NS, I thought it odd but didnt know what I was looking at. I just thought they pulled an old engine out the mothballs Then I found out about the Heritage Units. Since then I have seen Southern, Wabash, Illinois Interstate, The Virginian(the one I see the most, usually in Michigan or near Toledo), and the green and yellow one. What I long to see is Conrail, the Erie and the Pennsylvanian.
I've seen The NYC, Penn Central, Lackawanna,Original NS,N&W, Illinois Terminal, Leigh Valley
So far I've caught 17/20, here they are:
1. COG
2. ER
3. MON
4. NS
5. WB
6. LV
7. SOU
8. NKP
9. CR
10. IN
11. PRR
12. CNJ
13. VGN
14. S&A
15. DLW
16. NW
17. IT
Still need to catch NYC, Bee Line, and PC. I'd like to get a better shot of LV, MON, IN, and PRR. Hope all of those happen ASAP!
Was the CNJ filmed on the Port Road branch?
Yes, that was in Marietta back in 2015
i seen 1 of 20 LOL...just seen savannah and Atlanta today
I have only seen Illinois terminal hoping to see more!
I caught 1067 4005 and 8025
Caught 18/20, i need 1065 to get up here, and 8103
Caught metra 405, Illinois central units, RI heritage unit, and the erie one
Wow the New York Central and the Jersey Central I believe that was the Jersey Central that was their colors if it was that was beautiful
I caught Lackawanna completely by accident once.
I bet the Lackawanna from Norfolk southern railroad supisred you really good
Lol you should hear 1066 now.
Just to clarify my favorite is the S&A, N&W, SOU
5:25 My favorite
I’ve seen the monon, Norfolk and western, and penn central
You forgot the Erie Lackawanna SD45-2.
I have a shot of it, but not leading. Maybe if I make another heritage units video I can include it!
Do you have shots of all of the DC to AC conversion locomotives? That would be a cool video also.
I am still working on that. Hopefully I catch more soon!
Theres also a Norfolk and Portsmouth belt line locomotive, although I don't know if that's a heritage. I think it's a GP38-2. And also, it's hard to tell when NS #4001 will be completely repaired. Great Video as always!
1069 my fav
Oh Sd70ace horn is the best my favorite is the Virginian unit
I have seen Southern, conrail and LV
I've seen 8025 a few times
Wats the wires for on the top at 0:46 is it the keystone corridor?
Nope it was the Port Road Branch

What do you film with?
Sony FDR-AX100 and a RODE Stereo Videomic Pro (now X in newer videos).
I like how the title says (NS 20 heritage units leading) when it’s 20 minutes
Fakebonnet
15:00 my favorite.
What's the status of repairing Southern 8099. I hope NS will get her back there🤞
4:40 well hello there
Notice how you caught all of them leading
Thanks, yes.
Central Penn Rail Productions wish I could catch em all but I only caught 3
8100 came through here today. 1065 is on its way.
@@CentralPennRailProductions
You forgot 1700.
Something I wondered after this video all of the heritage units in this video were leading freight, so can a heritage unit just lead any trains and not just specials
Yeah they are good to lead any train.
Not to down the NYC one it’s nice looking and all but I would’ve rather seen them do the cigar band scheme like on the Old E units
Can I have the NS first responders train on that NS manifest at 10:21 no offense?
Can you film more of the Norfolk southern Buffalo line going through millersburg, pa because I live there
I want to shoot more videos on the Buffalo Line, so I probably will at some point this year.
@@CentralPennRailProductions One of the downsides of living by the Buffalo line is not many trains go through like they used to, but one of the advantages this line has a very rich history factor
So far I caught Savannah and Georgia and CSX
At least CSX has a B&O Royal Blue heritage unit.
My fav is the erie
I like ns 8105 and 1069
I find it surprising that this has 20 HU’s and the video is exactly 20 minuets.
Lol, I have what I like to call "editor's OCD", I made sure it was going to be 20 minutes! Thanks for watching.
High pitch es44ah horn
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’ve seen all but southern
NS is my favorite, it’s better then CSX
How can two strong engines lead a local freight?
