    The informational subtitles, maps, and track diagrams (with signal indications!) are really great. This makes a video so much more interesting to me. I've been a railfan for 60 years, and I like to see (or hear) something more than just trains going by. Context, Baby, context. Many thanks!

      That's one of those total surprise moments: I had wanted a shot from about where the fourth backhoe is on the right in order to get the train coming through the crossing, but I had no idea all that equipment was there, so, without time to drive to another location I decided to use them all as props!

    The maps showing the routes and informative text with the video are great, it gives a lot of information for those not familiar with the area and the trains running there.

    I'm surprised that they are not required to cover those hoppers - that's COAL DUST !! Great video; well shot, good focus, like the farther away shots.

      Thanks! Fresh loads of fine, dry coal will do that for the first several miles until the loose stuff is blown off, which just falls to the ground. Some railroads have overhead latex sprayers that coat the top of the cars to prevent dust from flying off, but I am not aware of any those in place around here.

    I'm a big fan of the Norfolk Southern trains. I live in Bound Brook NJ and I watch them all here and in South Plainfield NJ. Keep posting them all. Two thumbs way up!!!!

    Hi from Cornwall. Wow I know most of these locations very well. I’m a big fan of the brickyard next to 419. I’ll sit there and pleasurably watch a train pass. I’m particularly interested in your last clip at Ramona Rd. I cross there often and late one evening about perhaps 8 or so months ago I went to cross there. I found the asphalt totally ripped up and not crossable. It was clear that at least on truck of a recent train was on the ground. Turns out that all the grade crossings for several miles were also ripped up, because the next day they were all closed for repairs.
    I never found out if the train ultimately derailed or somehow made it to its destination. I guess it’s possible that it might have retailed itself at a trailing point switch. Your video was clearly made before this incident.

      Oh I remember that! They tore up all of the road crossings because they laid sections of half-mile long welded rail next to the tracks and did a cheap "patch job" to bury the rail until it was time to put in...then they repaved most of the crossings. The rails on track one were totally swapped with new rail, that's where the pile of tie plates came from in the foreground of my shot in Richland with the BNSF power. I mistakenly said it was a tie replacement project, but I believe they only replaced the rails. My understanding is around here, the rails are only replaced every 20-30 years, depending on how much life they can get out of them from grinding the rail head every season.

      Well, I think the incident I’m talking about was a preamble to the welded rail installation. The rails were still laying next to the tracks when I came upon the crossing mess. I had gone across the Ramona Rd crossing about 6 PM on my way to dinner with friends. Coming home at about 10 or so, I found the crossing torn up. It’s clear to me that a train had badly deformed the asphalt to create two peaks of macadam and ballast 8 to 10 inches high parallel to the rails. Maybe just one truck derailed on a freight car. And was dragged along ripping out each grade crossing as it went. The new rail went in a few weeks later. I started to call the cops to report it, but then remember that Myerstown has no police force. So I called NS at the number on the crossing gate. Ain’t railroading fun!! CAS. (Charlie).

    The shot of 211 coming around the bend through the corn fields was fantastic. You really pick your camera locations well. Great channel.

    Saw the FXE locomotive at the 5:40 mark and had to google the name! Ferromex (reporting mark FXE) (portmanteau of Ferrocarril Mexicano or "Mexican Railway") is a private rail consortium that operates the largest (by mileage) railway in Mexico with combined mileage (Ferromex + Ferrosur) of 7500 miles (12070 km) and is part of the North American Class I railroads.

    Excellent once again, definitely part of the top five railroad content providers! I still don't understand why mediocre rail video photographers get way more hits than you?

      A lot of that has to do with understanding how RUclips works: over 70% of all views come from the "suggested videos" tab on the home page or on the side bar while watching a video. The algorithm mainly uses "watch time" to generate suggestions, combined with viewer history (related channels, topics, etc) to display results. In 2019, they really made this much more advance, so instead of constantly promoting videos for long calendar duration (weeks to months at a time) from highly viewed channels, RUclips is much more keen to reward suggestions to new uploads from ALL content creators, especially younger channels, in order to help them grow. This means that channels that only upload videos once a month or so will struggle to grow or accumulate suggestions, especially if the videos fail to get user engagement, unless there is good effort in creating a good brand or "story". Take Distant Signal for example, who has perfected his brand by growing viewer engagement in the train community to the point where he can upload maybe one or two videos a month and still do very well-it should be noted that his channel exploded in views and subs since RUclips changed their algorithm-but channels that have a more vlog style approach thrive on quantity of uploads over quality. This means that RUclips has placed pressure on long-time channel like myself to improve the quality of the content to get those viewer engagement (watch time and retention) numbers up in order to thrive, which is why I started uploading a lot of different types of videos and have used more catchy titles, and thumbnails (which RUclips actually tells you to do) and am trying topics to appeal to a broader audience than just a few quality videos that are only tailored to the interests of a few in the hobby. While I don't want to sacrifice my "style" so to speak, one can never truly accomplish growth without just going after something different and trying new things, plus the reality is you'll never please everyone in every single video. Now, there are pros and cons to this: remember, at the end of the day RUclips is owned by Google and is here to make money, so by taking an approach to suggest and get views on quantity of uploads means that Google is able to make money not just from top stars, but also every day creators who build a so-called "story" or "style" that the algorithm is able to calculate once viewer population hits a few thousand (number of subscribers has nothing to do with this). Obviously, this is good for creators who have the time to put out a lot of videos because they can easily make a decent share of pocket change (sometimes more), but the biggest pitfall of the algorithm operating this way is that it favors a high population of new uploads; therefore, viewer retention will drop off the face of the earth after about a week or two in favor of suggesting the latest. For example, in previous years my new videos would get maybe a couple hundred views a day in the first week and continue to creep up over time-now it's reverse, where the view counts are extremely front-loaded, but are slow to tick up over time unless they hit a certain threshold of watch time and viewer engagement. It's my opinion RUclips made this change to appeal to advertisers, by guaranteeing them a certain level of views per video, after all, that's how RUclips is making their money. I do favor the change, as I've never hit view counts this great, but I do feel bad for all of the quality channels out there that go unnoticed. - anyway, thanks for the kind words, as always!

      Hi again from Cornwall. Thank you for this explanation. I really object to being the subject of manipulation by a group as evil as Google. You are of course correct, it’s all about squeezing the most money for THEM out of YOUR artistic work: witness you comment about “pocket change”. My daughter and son-in-law who live in Pelosi-Land, and both have good (good=well-paid) jobs at Google. (Nobody at Google does anything that could be reasonably called good!). They are both so brain-washed by the Google in-house propaganda machine, you cannot have any meaningful discussion with them about Googles policies.
      Anyway I agree with your other correspondent that you produce beautiful videos. I think I told you that just about every time I’ve commented on your work. So thank you again for the truly amazing work you do. I like Danny down in Florida also, but his gift is gab - after all he’s a radio broadcaster or something similar. But you are a very talented artist and videographer.

    Excellent catches! Love the SW1001 pair and those standard-cab EMDs leading (especially the UP SD60 and NS SD70)! Also nice to see another video of the GE e-bell along the Harrisburg Line.

    Even stranger to me to see a Ferromex engine in PA is that it is behind 2 BNSF engines. Ferromex is 26% owned by Union Pacific.

    It's interesting how nowadays all engines blow their horn in a same pattern and order. First blow is long, second blow is long, third one is always short and fourth one is the longest, or sometimes same as first and second. Back in the 80's & 90's they used to blow the horn randomly and for long periods of time.

    Aaaaargh, the carbon footprint of the anthracite dust. Good grief, whatever will we do? The ice caps will melt and the polar bears will get very depressed. Further south the penguins, not the hockey ones from Pittsburgh, but the real ones will move...somewhere. Woe is us!

    Hi CPRP, I have a question. Was wondering that when you're out shooting videos and pics again could you send me one to add to my railroad room I'm creating in our new home? Reason I asked is bcuz I'm a disabled Delawarian and don't get out much due to my hereditary nerve disease.
