- Have you ever found yourself fumbling through images looking at heritage units? Have you ever wondered how many CSX actually run? What about all the stickers? Well your in luck, as the Updated Heritage Unit Dictionary has them all! My first edition missed 10 units, and I wanted to make it right! There has also been some significant changes since the first edition, so feel free to view the change log! Hope you all enjoy!!
• CSX 173, Spirit Of West Virginia, has been rebuilt.
• CSX 323, L&N Sticker, has been rebuilt.
• CSX 356, Spirit Of Brunswick, has been spotted in updated paint scheme. Prior its whereabouts was unknown.
• Added additional info to CSX 366, Chessie System Sticker
• CSX 601, Spirit Of Waycross, and CSX 602, Spirit Of Maryland, have both been moved to the Cumberland and Huntington shops for rebuild.
• Added CSX 699, Diversity In Motion
• CSX 909, Conrail Sticker, became a new heritage unit.
• Added CSX 940, Crayola Unit.
• Added CSX 2304, Life Banner.
• Added additional info to CSX 1776, Spirit Of Our Armed Forces.
• Added CSX 4384, Clinchfield Stickers
• Added CSX 4558, C&O Sticker
• Added CSX 5001, Diversity In Motion
• CSX 7203, RF&P Sticker, became a new heritage unit.
• Added CSX 7764, Fire Fighting Sticker
• CSX 7765, Chessie System Sticker, was reactivated and placed back in service.

(EDIT; Since the making of this video, a new unit has been added to the list. CSX 6509 now wears Georgia Road Emblems. CSX 3415 also wears these stickers, so there are now 2 individual units with these decals. CSX 5107, W. Thomas Rice Special, has been stored in Cumberland, MD, and is set for rebuild in the AC44CM program. In addition, CSX unveiled their Operation Lifesaver unit, CSX 4568, as well as CSX 7507, which now wears a BioDiesel sticker. On May 10th, 2023, CSX unveiled 1827, formerly 3059, which wears a B&O paint scheme. This is said to be the first of many special (and actual) heritage units following predecessor railroads, therefore as soon as they are all unveiled, I will release a new edition with all of the new units. On June 10th, 2023, CSX followed up with the release of 1973, formerly CSX 3049, which wears a Chessie System paint scheme. These additions brings the total of heritage units to 64.)

Update as of today CSX has released a brand new locomotive, in Baltimore and Ohio scheme number 1827
However, it got rushed out of the paint shop into a public event so when it’s done with a Public event, it’s doing right now It’ll be sent back down to Waycross to finish up the locomotive

CSX has been came one of my favorite railroad companies because of the heritage units!
Update for October 2023. CSX has added heritage units. 1827 is the B&O, 1973 is the Chessie, 1982 is the Seaboard, 1976 is the Conrail, 1869 is the C&O, and 1850 is the L&N. CSX 940 was re-painted, 5107 is stored in Cumberland, and CSX added 4568, the Operation Lifesaver unit. They have also unnafically added 6003, another Operation Lifesaver unit, and 6914 the Chessie nose paint.
Update: CSX 12 is at Waycross and it is waiting for her future rebuild.

CSX 323 rebuilt to CM44AC 7272
CSX 366 rebuilt to CM44AC 7263, however it lost its sticker before it got rebuilt, back after it was repaired from the fire
CSX 601 and 602 are not being rebuilt, they still remain in storage and probably will remain in storage for a long time
CSX 909s Conrail sticker was removed almost immediately after it was put on
CSX 940 was just repainted into YN3C and it no longer has its funny logo
CSX 3099 is still in Mexico, however it is still wrecked and is being used as a parts source for Ferromex
CSX 4500 is not being rebuilt, and it is being used as a parts source for other rebuilds, and will eventually be scrapped
CSX 4589 has been rebuilt, and is now in YN3C paint without its spirit title
CSX 5107 has been put into storage after an engine fire, it will likely be rebuilt eventually
CSX 6388 was put into storage after an air conditioning fire. It is in storage right next to 5107 in Cumberland
CSX 8077 rebuilt to SD23T4 (ET23DCM) 1727
New special engines:
CSX 4568 (SD70MAC) recieved OLS paint when rebuilt
CSX 1827 B&O Heritage repainted from CSX 3059
CSX 1850 L&N Heritage repainted from CSX 3056

6914 Chessie Nose I forgot, and 1850 L&N, but the rest of these aren’t even really special engines. I will go through them.
CSX 3126 has “Spirit of Brandon” written on it in terrible handwriting, it does not count as a true spirit unit.
CSX 7681 had a small “Spirit of Louisville” sticker that looked a lot like CSX 12s. It was retired in 2017 and sold to GECX, and is now presumably in storage or scrapped. It is one that could be included, but the sticker was so small anyway.
CSX 7860 had Conrail markings and headlights graffitied all over it last year. These were painted over pretty quickly and the unit is still in service . This doesn’t really count since it was poorly made graffiti and it wasn’t around very long.
CSX 76 had “Spirit of Philly” handwritten on it. It has since been removed and it once again was a small hand written one that doesn’t really count.
CSX 41 has “The Spirit of DD Rice” hand written on one side of the engine. Again, it’s a small handwritten spirit unit, and this one is only on one side.
CSX 879 had “The Spirit of Daisy Piper” hand written on one side of the engine, similar to CSX 41. This one I am not sure if it is still around, but it again does not really count just like 41.
CSX 5284 has “The Spirit of DD Rice” hand written on one side of the engine, just like CSX 41. Again, you know why this does not count as a true spirit unit.
CSX 823 has “The Spirit of Cecil Christopher” hand written on one side. Again, same thing as all these others, doesn’t really count.
CSX 3341 has “The Spirit of Jim Erwin” hand written on one side in the same style as all these others. Again, do I even need to say?
CSX 4560 has nothing special I could find about it. I could not find anything that would make me think this was once a special engine. Please tell me what it was.
CSX 7764, I don’t know if you’re talking about MCVX 7764, the U36B that was used for the CSX safety train and is now on display at the railroad museum in North East, PA, or CSX 7764, the C40-8W that has nothing special about it other than being the oldest CSX C40-8W in service
CSX 2558 again has nothing special about it I could find, and it appears it has been scrapped a couple years ago. Please tell me what is special about this engine that made you put it on this list
So overall, most of these are really not true special interest engines, with the exception of 7681, but it isn’t on the CSX roster anymore.
@@yeahman70 ok but there 1 unit that I left is csx 7209 and like the overs it had the spirit handwriting like the others like you said csx 2558 is one of the bumper sticker unit and csx 4560 had the c&o sticker on the side
@@bettyacheampong5412 From all I can see, 4560 never had a C&O sticker. You may have seen the Huntington Rebuild sticker on the side and gotten that confused for it. The Huntington Rebuild sticker is put on every rebuilt SD70MAC that comes from Huntington. I have looked through tons of pictures of 2558 and I could find nothing that indicates that had anything special either. I could not find any photos of 7209 with anything noteworthy, if it does have one of those hadwritten spirit names then it does not really count

Nice video the engines that have the stickers should've been the ones repainted into the actual heritage paint schemes and another engine should've been picked for the ones that were wrecked or scrapped

At last report I saw those 2 engines on CSX train I368 same as NS I368 in Rainelle, West Virginia with #4551 trailing 2nd & #4553 which is leading.

You Forgot 884 which is in active service. 884 has a sticker and I saw 884 leading a train.
909 no longer has the CRQ sticker, i saw it last week in alexandria on M301-06

5:04 with CSX 3010. The sticker is only on the engineers side. It's peeled off on the conductors side

@@railfanmicahturner It got taken out I believe. As an image of the unit was uploaded to Heritage Units showing it in service after being put into storage, and the famous Wide World of Trains caught it recently.

Why was CSX AC44C6M #616 the Seaboard Airline unit scrapped? Why was CSX Diversity AC44C6M #699 scrapped?
Those were AC6000s, not AC44C6Ms. The CSX CM44ACs are numbered in the 7000s, not 600s. Also CSX classifies it's AC44 rebuilds as CM44ACs, not AC44C6Ms.

Spirit of West Virginia is no longer?! I caught that one going through my hometown not long before this was uploaded, and it was also shortly after it was renumbered.

As a train lover, this is actually quite saddening. And why wouldn’t they keep the stickers of the ones they rebuilt or repainted??
I've seen #4551 & #4553 with their stickers and they still have their stickers today.
They no longer have their stickers, I’ve seen them both within the last month and nothing, they lost their stickers when they were repainted in 2019. 4558 also lost its sticker at the same time. I have images if you’d like to see them.

Hey great video I just wanted to tell you that the picture of 12 is my dad's picture I don't care that you didn't credit him, but you might want to credit people in the future. Also 909 is not a special engine. But hey this was a great video, and I would love to see more.
The majority of the photos aren’t mine and are photos found across the internet by a simple google search, them being so open and everywhere it’s nearly impossible to find an owner for everything.

Someone scraped it off
I ordered an HO scale lookalike from Scaletrains in Benton, Tennessee. Problem-o: this HO scale model still wears its Gainesville-Midland stickers today. Also #3099 update: it was not scrapped it was taken to the Huntington, West Virginia shops for wreck repairs.

@@railfanmicahturner Actually what happened was the Gainesville Midland sticker crumbled and peeled off of the unit. Nobody really took the sticker off. I learned this from CSX EMD Railfan's videos. He has a few videos of it at different times.

4685 was repainted and lost its spirit name, then later sold to Progress
4699 was repainted long before being sold, and it lost its spirit title then

It seems CSX has (finally) put some effort into its special units. As the past 4, CSX 911, 1776, 3194, and 4568 have had full body paint jobs.

@@ronniefarnsworth6465 They might make a proper Pan Am heritage unit, as they acquired Pan Am just a few months ago. I think the spirit units are nice though. I'm glad they put one on an ET44AC, as it will live on for a while.

On September 13th, 2022 yet another special unit was unveiled, this time on CSX. Rebuilt SD70MAC #4568 emerged from the Huntington shops in an Operation Lifesaver paint scheme, commemorating the rail safety organization's 50th anniversary.
