- For todays video, I’ve decided to continue in the Heritage Unit Dictionary line and create a variation for Norfolk Southern after a suggestion from a viewer of the previous Heritage Unit Dictionary video. I have plans to continue the series in the future with other railroads like Union Pacific and BNSF in the future, so let me know what you want to see next! Thank you all so much for your support, I hope you enjoy!
Update for October 2023: 1074 is Stored in Altoona, PA, and multiple units have been leased to BNSF. Added to the collection are NS 3987 and 3988, which are EX CMQ GEVOs.
Update 8099 is almost done being repaired
Is 1071 coming back?
Yes
Update for June 2023: 8099 is done being repaired
update, CMQ AC44's are gonna be rebuilt, they're not gevos. 1074 is active. The BNSF MAC leases have been returned to the lesor
6:10 Update she's back out on the Mainline
7:34 Sold to KLWX.
UP looks to be interested in it as they been running it back and forth and may have purchased it so it may be an active member of the UP roster as UP 8520 but I cannot confirm it.
UP has it running all over their system.
NS said All heritage units are going to various shops for a fresh coat of paint and maybe a few rebuilds or upgrades if needed.
This will probably occur gradually. *It was announced about a year ago*
You missed one. NS 2943, the spirit of Conrail. It was a GP38 they got from Conrail after the split. It said 25 years of Conrail on it. In 2010 it was turned into road slug 708
NS 5642 was originally the Conrail Philly Division engine.
I think this is only Norfolk Southern heritage units. Railroads that have merged into Norfolk Southern wouldn't count.
NS 1801,1074, and 1069 are currently at the Altoona Locomotive Works 8099,1071, 1067, and 911 have left the shops and have returned to service also 8099's letting was in inverted
4:48 Sold to the RBMN. (Still in active service)
4:58 Also sold to the RBMN and still in active service
That's not entirely correct. 4270 F9A and 4275 F7B were sold to RBMN. 4271 and 4276 were sold to the Aberdeen Carolina and Western.
Those 2 Locos were for the NS Executive Units (2 of 4)until they were replaced They redid the F9A with gp38 power & a full electrical overhaul. They still do excursions on RBMN.
Yesterday I just saw 4000 sitting in the NS Harrison yard in Memphis Tennessee
6:27 perfect shot with the lightning
Ns 1030 Locomotives All Norfolk Southern Heritage units Back in 2012 the 30 anniversary.
This is great.
6963 runs on a local from fostoria to bellevue and back. Symbol is L11
7:29 I just saw this one. Apparently UP wants it they are testing it
May update: 1067 is out on the main, 1071 was scrapped, 8099 is being repainted, 1074 is stored as well is 1801.
1071 has not been scrapped and is at Altoona awaiting repairs. Thanks for the rest of the info
@@railfanmicahturner nuh-uh! 3 of my friend told me NS scrapped 1071 thank for the info tho.
1071 is scrapped and not in service today
No 1071 just left the shops
@@CrushtasticStudios scrapped
NS #1030 is still in service, but no longer has it's 1982-2012 number boards. I think it had those number boards only for the event of NS unveiling their 20 heritage units. Also you published this video about eight months ago and NS #1801 hasn't ran since July of 2021 and is being stored in Altoona, PA. But again overall a good video.
1801 has been stored in altoona for 3 years and 4610 was repainted THEN rebuilt (still active)
3:27 All these units are the best and no one can tell me other wise there gorgeous 3:48 4:10 4:30 the blue black with the red and the black with the blue are the best ones by far 7:28 and the gray and red
Agreed
Anyone heard the news about #8099? Its currently resides in Altoona, Pennsylvania at the Juniata Shops awaiting repairs.
Getting done currently
I heard about #8099 getting repaired.
It’s almost done
@@NSSignalGuy Its been repaired and back in service. By the way, #8099 got black number boards.
1:29 Did no one else realize that there counting up I never knew that
Fun fact: NS 4001 derailed in 2017. But then it got repaired
The savanna heritage hit a truck a while back aswell took a half year off her lifespan
Ns 8099K got derailed in 2021 by rockslide not be repair and idk getin heritae unit
@@rushylvania.northern I haven't seen #4001 since its wreck.
@@WyandotteRailfanner Its active and back in service today.
I am so scared of heritage units
Ns 4270 was sold to RBMN and is luckily still in service but it is now 270 not 4270
NS 1801 NS 1071 Week NS Ex KLWX 8520
Hey man, I wish I could be in episodes of “where they come from”
What's that lightning bolt doing in the shot?
What about the OLS dash-9’s
That's what I'm wondering too
They have all been rebuilt into AC44C6M’s
@@ErieCSXguyso they have 8520 here to
I believe that as of now the 8103 is going to undergo maintenance work
CSX is now doing heritage units with 20 being repainted (apparently) don’t really care for CSX much.
NS 4610 was rebuilt, and it is now GP59ECO 6663 (originally 4663).
Those units are not Locos, NS34 & NS38 are Geometry units & are not powered. They travel with Locos.
By the way NS 4270 is an F7A unit
No it's a F9A. NS used it with their Executive Passenger trains. They rebuilt the F9As with gp38 power the B units are F7s. See above.
You forgot to add one NS 3501 that is a Operation lifesaver
911 has broken down and has been sitting in Altoona
Back in service now
@@NSTrainGuy8099 yes thanks
