I hope no one got hurt, in the making of this very informative video. I never get tired of seeing the hand cranes either..Nothing comes close to hand cranes. As a former owner, foreman engineer and hand crane operator, when I was a kid.. I approve this video 👍
I noticed that about half of these derailments are caused by a fresh brand new piece of rolling stock. You should always check the clearances including coupling height use shims where needed. Also on Kay-Dee couplers there is a low hanging pin, may need adjustment. Wheel gauging from flange to flange so they don't pick the track switches. Remember just because it's new doesn't mean it's correctly in specifications.
When an N-Scale derails it’s an inconvenience. When an H-O scale derails it’s a disaster. When a G scale derails it’s an incident. (And when an O scale derails it’s a fire hazard.)
7:57 out of all these looked more realistic. Coupler could've broken off from the rest at a 1.4% - 2% grade and running down hill and hitting the parked train
I’m so glad you show the reality of HO scale. I have N scale myself and I find much less trouble with them then HO. I’m sure with some track work redone and couplers adjusted it runs great. To those of you just starting remember take your time with your track work , don’t be in a rush just to get trains running quick. All it leads to is making more time fixing track work. Great video still a beautiful layout
I think you're looking at N scale with rose-tinted glasses. I'm an N scaler myself and a LOT of this same stuff happens. Although, it's a lot more common on the club layout I run at and its 30 year old Code 55 track that was laid by multiple people over time than on my KATO Unitrak temp layout. Honestly, both scales can have reliability issues. It's highly dependent on how well the track is laid and if the rolling stock has been toleranced properly.
a little Tip to the couplers at 6:50 . If you put a train at the back of the train that could help the couplers not ripping ( im not really an expert but id like to point it out bc maybe it could help XD )
Those gondolas (or are they hopper cars? I can't tell. I'm talking about the long train of reddish shorter cars) are seriously troublesome! 1:37=Brakeman's view after ignoring the telltales.

In my time I used to watch your videos and they were very entertaining but when my tablet broke I forgot about your channel and in a year I found your channel your videos made my day :)
Seems the 2 issues are either couplings beening so misaligned (one higher than other) that it causes it to decouple on a incline or bump, or that all your crossings are cursed and will cause a derailment

i crash them on purpose (lightly like runaways and collision) and they dont get scratched
1. Use a coupler height gauge
2. Weight your cars properly
3. All non-Kadee couplers go straight into the trash

Having dpu's probably could've stopped some of those derailments. Just some
DPU would have resulted in more pushing, and cars piling up once things got sideways lol.
