When an N-Scale derails it’s an inconvenience. When an H-O scale derails it’s a disaster. When a G scale derails it’s an incident. (And when an O scale derails it’s a fire hazard.)
I noticed that about half of these derailments are caused by a fresh brand new piece of rolling stock. You should always check the clearances including coupling height use shims where needed. Also on Kay-Dee couplers there is a low hanging pin, may need adjustment. Wheel gauging from flange to flange so they don't pick the track switches. Remember just because it's new doesn't mean it's correctly in specifications.
I’m so glad you show the reality of HO scale. I have N scale myself and I find much less trouble with them then HO. I’m sure with some track work redone and couplers adjusted it runs great. To those of you just starting remember take your time with your track work , don’t be in a rush just to get trains running quick. All it leads to is making more time fixing track work. Great video still a beautiful layout
I think you're looking at N scale with rose-tinted glasses. I'm an N scaler myself and a LOT of this same stuff happens. Although, it's a lot more common on the club layout I run at and its 30 year old Code 55 track that was laid by multiple people over time than on my KATO Unitrak temp layout. Honestly, both scales can have reliability issues. It's highly dependent on how well the track is laid and if the rolling stock has been toleranced properly.
I like how roughly half of them are accurate to the real thing (going too fast over switches or around sharp bends) and the rest are ‘and then this guy decided to ruin it for everyone else.’
7:57 out of all these looked more realistic. Coupler could've broken off from the rest at a 1.4% - 2% grade and running down hill and hitting the parked train
a little Tip to the couplers at 6:50 . If you put a train at the back of the train that could help the couplers not ripping ( im not really an expert but id like to point it out bc maybe it could help XD )
You know i should have seen this video before I through one car against the room and it disintegrated and I still have not found the shell and it's been a few years lol I thought I was the only one!
Seems like all those highly accurate couplers are causing a lot of the problems- Think I'll stick with my crappy Tyco couplers! Hell- you can't get them apart when you WANT to!

1:54 That is so relatable dude 😂😂😂😂 5:37 That always makes me cringe… Every time a railing or some other super tiny decoration goes flying off its engine, it always makes me question why I even bothered to ignore pasting them to the shell…
I would love to do a runaway sequence like that, having to clear the main line and open up a siding for the cars to crash into, or maybe have a locomotive move in the same direction at a lower speed to slow it down, gosh I can only imagine for now
They honestly come and go. Some days are fine, others...Well you see the results here. Part of the cheap entertainment between rebuilding sections as we can.

It legit jumped off the track 😭

If you are operating double or triple headed trains on dcc, always be sure you set all locomotives to the same speed.
1. Use a coupler height gauge
2. Weight your cars properly
3. All non-Kadee couplers go straight into the trash
5. See #1 again
Or do none of the above and keep making these fun videos!
