Awesome catch! That was a lucky catch for sure
Thanks Jaw 🦷! Was really something cool to see up close
hey Mr Jaw Tooth !!!!!
That 😎
I get sd40 and sd70 ns
@@RailfanRowan calm down man you'll catch that train
I love those days. One day I was inside a building but I could see the train tracks from inside.
Almost done with business with my friend Bill, I heard a horn and I looked outside and seen a UP track maintenance train. It had a 70M / a 9043/ 5 gons with a backhoe on top, then a caboose that was once assigned to the SP police!
I got in my car and started to follow it, and at the next siding the crew parked in the house track and tied it up for the night.
While I was foaming at the mouth and taking pictures the track foreman came over and asked if I would like to step inside and take a look at his office. That was just too cool!
I saw the NS research train today at Safe Harbor Pa. We were out on kayak's looking at petroglyphs on the Susquehanna and I saw it go by. Maybe 1 hour later, it was going back in the other direction. Pretty exciting for me to see it twice.
On may 1st me and my dad went out to Conway near Pittsburgh and NS 34 was just sitting there at the edge of the yard, I had no idea it was a research train though, it was cool to see
I was railfanning the norfolk southern railroad in irondale Alabama and the same train coming in to the yard and it was so amazing
We were on the opposite side of the train tracks at the time
Awesome!! Love that vlogging style of video! This sort of thing happened to me too; I was driving by a crossing and saw a green signal and decided to stop and it turned out to be this unit! To make it even better it had a crew change right where I was! It is really something cool to see in person!
Cool, we're catch buddies then!! Thanks man!
@@RailfanRowan I guess we are! No problem!!
Hi
It’s Obvious you know ALL the Roads in your area. Up Close & Clean. Way to go, Rowan! 👍👍👍
Dang near every one of them 😂, it's taken years but yes!
Thanks Ken!
Love how you went up close and then towards the end of the video you were next to a no trespassing sign 🤣👌
Thank you for the acknowledgement...
I had one stroke of luck. I had a driving vacation in Colorado. As I drove I heard a steam engine whistle. NO tracks in view. All of a sudden a over pass was there. I heard the whistle again. I jumped out of my car and hooked up my video camera. There came a U.P. 4-8-4 in full steam. I had NO idea of the territory. So I just continued my trip home. All of a sudden I heard the whistle again. I jumped on a side road. I drove into a railroad fair. Bonanza!
Wow I bet that was a blast!!
thanks for this really interesting train, looks like an NS version of a SPERRY track testing railcar the real pain here is to try to catch it before it's gone not an easy thing to chase especially with a train that short!
I run from culpeper to manassas daily. Seen some cool stuff. i know all those spots from fishing.
Thanks for a very interesting video. In my six plus decades of railroading/railfanning, I never heard of a geometry train.
Thanks Rowan always wanted to see a close shot of this trains
I though this one was a really special, thanks fo viewing
Amazing video man. That research unit is the most interesting thing I've seen on the rails in a long time.
Good stuff... you're on your game!
Hey Rowan, I truly love that Tuscan red color!!! It really stands out. Each railroad has their own geometry cars. Awesome catch!!!!
Love the color too, very N&W!! Thanks!
Nice! Saw this from atop the 9th street bridge in Lebanon PA once... by chance. I was on the bridge with no equipment, just watching and hoping. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
I'm a relatively new subscriber and I've been going back through your vids. Dude, you've taken "chasing trains" to a new level, .. I love it! Stay safe and keep up the good work.
Thanks Kenneth!
You got a way closer shot but I caught it in Toledo Ohio about 18 months ago
Awesome video RR! Thanks! 👍👍
Excellent video as usual ! Keep em coming !
Thanks Sparky
Super cool; thanks Rowan.
Perfect timing and awesome shots!
What an awesome chase and up close look at the NS Brick, Rowan. You rock like crazy, brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks stalker, I appreciate it!!
Amazing catch. Beautiful.
Thanks Rowan nice chase!
Thanks for making this video. Very nice.
Thanks for the view Fred!
Nice catch! Great video! Thanks!
The NS Research unit is a fascinating piece of equipment. Thanks for sharing!
Very special and unique!
@@RailfanRowan I have always enjoyed seeing specialty equipment of all kinds. My granddaddy sold construction equipment for years (Linkbelt, Spartan) and also had a fascination with trains.
Great catch and video! Those were some great close-up views!
Thanks!!
Great catch Rowan !!! Barry
Great video! I do miss you saying, “what’s up foamers”! That was always a highlight for me.
I oughta bring it back!
Great video, incredible catch!!
Thanks so much
Awesome catch I love it🎉
Great video. Several years ago I spotted the research units stopped after crossing the Susquehanna River and waiting to enter the Enola yard at Marysville, PA. It was spotless and glistened in the afternoon sun. I took a few stills but was a distance from it. If you were a guest at the nearby B & B, you would have had primo site.
That's cool I'll have to go there!
Cool chase Rowan hope to see that NS brick soon
Yeah man it be cool, hard to spot cause it's so short
Really cool, love the p5 action!
I know!!
The Brick seems to spend a lot of time at Roanoke. Each of the last three times I visited Roanoke for meetings, The Brick and other research units were under the shed roof. Great chase and catches!
Nice Chases and catches Rowan!
That’s amazing! Thanks!
You are the best NS train videographer
Very interesting video!
Thanks for the video
Nice catch of the NS Geometry Train! Hope all is well!
Thanks it is
Hi I watch a ton of Rail videos but never understood chasing a train after you had watched it go by, but in this case you got to see it stopped and up close, that I understand! Thanks for the shot with it stopped and the explanation of the equipment!
I did 👍 and hit the Bell stay safe 😷😷
Thanks Jim, I appreciate it, and I will stay safe, thanks for the view
Wow!!! Awesome experience man!!!
Pretty neat thanks for the view!
That's so cool to see!
Great chase Rowan!
Cool! I would love to see this thing at some point! Nice video Rowan! Keep up the great work!
Thanks!
Pretty cool. Almost expect to see Harry & Bess Truman standing on the back platform waving!
Yeah!! Oh wouldn't that be a sight!
I'm still an old SP and WP fan, but that was pretty cool and interesting to see
Awesome chase Rowan! Great coverage 👍
Thank ya sir 👍
Great Job as always.
Interesting and cool catch!
Excellent video man!
Lucky catch with having it stop right there! Combine luck with persistence and you have have success! Have always said railfan'ing is like fishing, you never know what you will catch, it's a large part luck, yet with persistence and intuition, you catch the big ones! Enjoyed seeing the lighting on the sensors especially.
Great advice, very well said!!
Thanks for this, I've seen it in various videos but never been sure what it was.The paintwork on it is in rather better shape than the loco pulling it.
The lead unit was painted almost 30 years ago
You know it's gonna be a good catch when Jaw Tooth HIMSELF xomments
NS34 used to be a Southern Railway GP35 before becoming a slug and eventually going on to become NS 34 and part of the Geometry Train program and having its engine removed so the locomotive(s) pulling it are what power its generator and electric traction motors as well as NS 33.
Good Catch!
Great catch!
Thought that the brick was a locomotive for awhile
Great catch
Awesome stuff man!
Nice catch
Rowan: You cant really see the tail end that well
3 seconds later: I see the tail end!!
Great Capture and Video.
Nice Chase . I caught in the yard in Norton Va
i love the Shenandoah Valley it is a great train place
I am familiar with that one spot you pulled off on (toward the beginning of this video) is in Warren Co., VA outside of Bentonville along rt. 340. 🙂 Fantastic video and narration as always. 👌🏻
Thanks Christian!!
Nice Catch
Great chase and you deserve it because of your passionate dedication & commitment 👍 BTW new look is good!
Thank you, is actually my old look hahaa, this was shot in Jan
Railfan Rowan Clean shaven looks cleaner. And you do not want to age yourself too fast. Trust me, it happens fast enough. Have a great weekend my friend!
Nice Effort with catching the Train multiple times. 👍 Most of the time you don’t see anyone inside.
I thought that was neat! ThanksN
NS 34 was built from a SD35 NW 1530
awesome video! man you caught this train like 20 times, don't know how you did that!
That was great! You got some sweet closeups of that baby. Not like the geometry train goes by every day, right? Fun, fun.
Was a TON of fun!
Thanks!!
Wow, AWESOME!
Can't wait to see my first Heritage Unit
I think my favorite part of this video was the P5A on that lead unit 9421 sounds great
Seen the brick in Roanoke yesterday sitting at the loco shop
Pretty cool 👍
Very nice video!!!
Thanks!
@@RailfanRowan your welcome
I caught him once and only once at Wilkes-Barre PA and that was unexpected and that was about 2 years ago
You are so much luckier than Me. something always get in the way of my special shot.
Very cool!
That's amazing.
Thank you
He Caught it again 2 or 3 Years Later! WOW!
I have seen that thing in altoona Pennsylvania sitting a couple times
That’s was interesting
Good job man! you got some very good footage of that. Now maybe one of the master modelers can model that. Real good shot of the roof HIGH FIVE.
Thanks Harlin!!!
Thank you for not using any dumb music LOL
nice video & nice catch
Thank you!
To bad you could not find a builder plate. I like the canopy over the back end.
Awesome
Cool video
Awesome lens
Thanks!
That's the most interesting looking locomotive I've ever seen! Looks like an SD40-2 mixed with MP1500AC Switcher Locomotive! I wonder if it's compatible with the. Self Load Test.
Geez you get lucky a lot. Im thinking that last car was the office. Huh? If you go to school for railroad that could be yours.😊
I just caught it leaving Norfolk, VA, it totally caught me by surprise
Yeah this one has caught me by surprise twice!
