Jason hit it right on the head, "Why aren't younger people into hifi audio? Because it's too expensive, they can't afford it." Thanks to Schiit for making hifi sounding products available for everyone.
That's also true for some of us older folk, too!
IT is true on a few hobbies. Model train enthusiasts suffer the same thing where things are priced at ridiculous prices for what you get.
It's like they want to be so exclusive that they price virtually everyone out of the hobbies.
agree.
@@EsotericArctos There are too many models, too much complexity and a lot of misinformation online surrounding Hi-Fi. I think average consumers are more drawn to simpler products like a wireless speaker box or soundbar. The Devialet Phantom represents the future of HiFi IMHO. It's everything you need in a small box. You don't need a power conditioner, $1000 cables, a subwoofer, pre-amp, amp, DAC, turntable, CD player, DSP, streaming box etc...
And yet young people are buying $1000+ phones.
Thank you for doing this . . . I love seeing 'behind the scenes' footage like this. Getting to see the people behind the products.
A long time audiophile here. Schiit's approach to hifi should be commended. They really approach it from the world of enthusiasts and audiophiles. Yet somehow remain attractive to the casual listener, and even more so i have seen and heard people in my life mention schiit in passing, people who generally don't care about audio, but because its so inexpensive lots of people have dipped their toes in the water. Hifi is expensive, and they don't make cheap products, they make clean paired down separates. Which allows one to piece together the features they want. What I like about Schiit is they have created an ecosystem and once your in, its too hard not to buy another schiit product. I like that one could start with a $ 200 headphone stack, add a pre amp and amp and complete your stereo. Maybe a little down the road you can add another amp and go balanced.
In terms of price you can create a very expensive schiit stereo, but the way they break out features into separates means you can build up to that. Why go buy a 6k integrated when you can piece together separates over a couple years. For most this is realistic. But to go drop 6K on an integrated today is out of the question for most. And even if you do have the money, 6K feel like such a big investment to make all at once. And then you have spousal permission to contend with. Take hegel for example, they make one of the best amps on the market. But they have all of these features baked into it, and non of them can be upgraded on a stand alone basis. Schiit is trying to break out individual pieces that can be upgraded or swapped. I love it. I love the modular nature, and just they idea that they are trying to refine the process, materials, and reusing enclosures for multiple devices.
Separates in the world of HIFI are usually reserved for audiophiles willing to dedicate the space and time to tune the sound. Therefore separates from most companies are in the tens of thousands. Today schiit makes one of the best tube pre/amp combos on the market for under 2k. Take a step back and look at the market, there are very few options at this price point that are not complete made in china crap. I cannot say that it is the best sounding on the market, but its really cool to see a new Audio company growing in my generation.
The prior generation had the stereo wars of the 70's and lots of great audio engineer rock stars came out of that era. Here's hoping that Schiit can continue to grow and become as sought after as Pass Labs stuff. I think in the future Schiit will begin to produce the $$$ gear. But hopefully they keep affordability a core value, because I really believe that younger people, or first timers are their core audience.
Love the "factory tour" videos! I own 6 Schiit products and have always been impressed with the level of performance they provide. Great Bang for your Buck!!! Thanks Randy!
Dang, I just counted I'm up to 8 Schiit products. When did that happen!
@@jlutell I may need to re-count... 😆
Great trip to Schiit. It is nice when you talk to the people who are building and testing the equipment and seeing how they came from the area when Jason added the facility there in Corpus Christi.
Perfect time to get into audio especially with the CAM community om Facebook group.
Another behind the scenes scoop. Well done, keep up the great work!
have thoroughly enjoyed your time with Jason. i have some schiit in my life, and hope to have more.
Great coverage, thank you. Indeed continually impressed with the stuff they put out at the price point they achieve. Definitely lowering the barrier to entry. Thanks
CheapAudioMan is absolutely my favorite RUclips Channel! The best content, very informative, always entertaining!
Randy, thanks for the video. It is indirect, but this is awesome that we, the viewers, get to see and hear the makers of the fantastic audio gears. Much appreciated!
Great dialog with Mr. Stoddard and the workers too
Words cannot describe just how much I love Schiit gear. I have nine pieces of Schiit so far (including a Ragnarok that I got on sale) gasp yes sale! And it is like no other amp I've heard, I love it! All-in-all Schiit stuff is: great, affordable, wonderful sounding and well made. I'm super pleased to see your interview with Jason! Now is a good time to be an audiophile. And if it weren't for The Cheap Audio Man I would never have known about the WIIM mini-streamer. Life, it is good. :)
Schiit is great, and we need more Schiits in more industries. Whether you're a Schiithead or not, Schiit's contribution to HiFi has probably benefited you. They've been a key player in making the space way more competitive and bringing the price of excellent sound quality down to earth. Every industry should have a company that helps keep everyone honest by providing a good selection of quality products at a reasonable price without exploiting sweat shop labor.
Also, I know it's way more easily said than done, but I'd love to see a company onshore the manufacture of a diverse line of high-quality, affordable speakers someday. I long for some Schiity speakers.
They have made their mark on the industry. The Schiitstain they left had consumers questioning whether expensive brands are worth it or not.
Thanks, Randy, for the excellent video with Jason. I am a certified Schiithead and proud of it.
I am the very happy owner of the Freya + and the Mani. Love the Schiit line of products. Kudos to Jason and his guys for all they do.
Solid video!!! Loved it. Appreciate Schiit as a company now even more.
I really enjoyed the video. Great content, fun to watch, and informative. I'm looking forward to Schitt revealing next years mystery product(s) to take on whatever audio sacred cow he's referring to.
Very cool schitt. Thanks Randy and Jason.
Thanks Randy. Been a fan of CAM and Jason's Schiit ( Fulla, Modi, Lokius, Vali) for some time now. Great gear and reasonable prices-can't go wrong w/that combo.
Thanks for a look behind the scenes. Really great to see.
Just 'down the road' from me. Who would have guessed they'd set up shop in CC, TX. Hotbed of the Hi-Fi manufacturing industry! (lol)
Growing up in South Texas coastal bend area in the 1980s listening to rock music meant you listened to 'C101' (FM101.3/KNCN). They used all the little soundbite ads done by recording artists. A favorite was the shouting "CORPUS CHRISTI MAKES MY EYES MISTY! THIS IS DIAMOND DAVID LEE ROTH OF VAN HALEN AND C101 ROCKS!"
Great video Randy. Love their Schiit.
Thanks for this video. Loved going behind the scenes.
It is excellent to see their production facility!
One of the things i love about Schiit is since it's made in the USA, it's not made in sweatshops or with slave labor like is common in China.
Would love to see what Schitt could come up with around a TDA3255 chip...
RUclips seems to be getting a little over zealous and not liking it when you say Schiit.
Seriously though, this is really great little behind the scenes view of a company who is encouraging people to get into the audio hobby, rather than companies that insist on pricing people out of it.
Back in 2009-2010, I killed time at work by hanging out in high end audio forums. That was where Schiit audio plugged their very first product, which was the original Asgard headphone amp. The feedback was generally positive as far as capabilities and price, but I noticed that it only had an RCA input. I suggested that it should have an RCA output as well for preamp flexibility and whoever was in that forum representing Schiit mentioned that it was a great idea. The RCA outputs were never implemented on the original Asgard, but did make their debut on the Asgard II. That memory cracks me up every time I see how far Schiit has come since then. Affordable high end is rarified air that hasn't been seen since the early days of NAD, and it's nice to know that Schiit is still around and working hard to bridge that gap between audiophile class electronics and affordability. It's also nice to know that Randy is working just as hard to publicize those bridges to help bring people closer to the music they love. Rock on, Randy. :)
I'm guessing it was Head-Fi? If so, I remember it well. Jason Stoddard was the guy who always posted on their forums. He also does yearly recaps of the industry which is very interesting.
Great tour video of Schiit, and a rather cool track of royalty-free placement music too.
man, this really makes me want to go with schiit over topping and others. really cool that you put this out Randy. thanks a lot.
Good vid! Been using Schiit for about five years. Great American audio company!
Nice tour and interview. I have 8 pieces of Schiit in my home and they all do their job great!
Great to see the sauce being made.
And Zach, love the NCSU t-shirt....GO PACK!!!!!
I agree with that title... We live in a time when creating a quality audio product just doesn't cost that much... There will always be High End stuff because there always will be a market for it. But honestly it is great that we dont need to spend thousands to have good sounding systems!
Quality content right here. You made me aware of Schiit. So recently, I bought a used Asgard 2, Upgraded BiFrost and a Loki 4-tone controller. So good with my HD 650s. Doubt I will need another headphone-amp ever again.
I upgraded from Modi/Magni to Modius(AKM)/Asgard 3 about a year and a half ago, and the improvements were easily audible, nothing incremental or subtle about it. The Asgard seems like kind of a dark horse in audioland. The price/performance is through the roof, but it doesn't really get mentioned all that often, at least not that I've seen. I'm considering a Bifrost, but I've seen mixed reports on how big a step up from the Modius it is*, and returning stuff + restocking fees are a pain in the butt. How're you liking your Bifrost?
*I know the Modius measures "better," but the Magnius measures "better" than the Asgard, and I like the Asgard more than the Magnius.
That’s what I said a long time ago. Current owner of a Ragnarok and Yggdrasil 😂😂😂
Jason reminds me of David Hafler (and Ed Laurent), of Dynaco fame. Great job guys!!!
Hey Randy, I love your factory tours. Can you visit a vintage HiFi shop? A collab with Skylabs Audio would be sick! He owns a RUclips channel and a HiFi repair shop. I'm all for saving vintage gear from landfills and supporting small businesses. Most vintage receivers are long-lasting and easy to repair. I'm only buying vintage from now on, since I found a wonderful repair shop with affordable servicing nearby.
Great job Randy!
Love this, great video!
Great video. Keep up the great work.
Very nice. Can't tell if he was hinting at a desktop sized speaker amp but that would be cool. Also not sure what "singularity" is but from what he said might be a new type of DAC. Love your stuff Randy!
It’s essentially their own product so they don’t have to rely on another manufacturer for every Dac chip. Assuming in understood it correctly myself
Turns out he was.
I bet it would be hard to find any audiophile that does not have some piece of Schiit! Great vid!
Thanks for the tour of that incredible Schitthole!
This is like landing on another planet and finding intelligent life!
Like the T-shirt
Think we need a collection to buy Randy some new t-shirts .
Great interview always good to see the people behind the product .
Fun video with great content. I Love it
I really enjoyed this Schiit show.
Jason no one makes a Toaster in America anymore!?! I say go for it! 🤪
This is soooooo cool! This would be one of my dream jobs in my younger years.
I'm running the Vali2 ++ with my Focal Clear headphones and am really happy with the sound.
Great video! Thanks
Thats so cool! Love this company
Because this channel is why I got the S brand items like the SYS and Modi 3 so far. Looking to add more soon to the stack.
I have a Schiit Lyr 3 (bought as soon as it was released) and love it with the Focal Clear and Radiance headphones.
This is really cool and informative...
big respect to Americans to make this products in usa..I live in india and happy owner of hel 2e dac..even though it had sound issues in beginning ..but its working fine now and I hope it keeps fine all my life.. the hel dac is really well designed ..so I love the schit design as well..I hope to try more premium schit dacs in future .. thanks to schit for making things affordable and encourage the young ones its okay to enjoy good sound without buying a Nagra
Hi Randy. Good video. Can you do a video on an all Schiit system? Thanks!
I'm 19 and I've been getting into audio since covid, and I just got my schiit modi+ and hd6xx and I'm never turning back.
I schitt you not you turned me on to their products, and I am very happy I bought some of that schitt.
You’re stuff keeps getting better Randy. Thank You, and very happy for you!
Just found a used stack on eBay. Can't wait to try it out.
I don't need any of this but watching this makes me wanna buy some products
Superb video on site at a really neat and cool audio company. 👍👍🍺🍺
Looks like that sacred cow just got released a couple days ago and I am anxious to see the reviews on it. What a strange concept, but I trust Jason.
Think source schiit. Affordable streamer to go with my Schiit stack?
Great content sir
Vindicated!
Modi+ will be shipped on Tuesday, and I should receive it before Friday since today is Sunday. I'm excited to remove Topping D10s, which has a bright-ish top-end. Have a great day!
Great video Randy. New editor or editing style? Quality improves every day!
that was me editing. I go with a different style with these tours and I was lucky having my best friend running camera.
CAM i aspsire to have a job listening to schitt!!! Coolest job ever!!!
That price point is really important. I'm Gen X and millennials and Gen Z have a lot less disposable income than we had at the same age. Between some of the Chinese stuff and companies like this I honestly think one has the opportunity to get more for less than we spent. I put my son in an Ayima and some second hand Klipschs for less than my first real receiver cost. If he keeps going with it we'll look towards Schitt for upgrades and better streaming.
I dabbled with getting into higher end audio stuff right of college in the 90s, but it was expensive and then I got married and had kids. Fast forward to now and I really enjoy having a Fulla plugged into my PC and using inexpensive, but high quality chi-fi IEMs on the other end of the Fulla. What companies like Schiit are doing, is really making better sounding equipment available to folks like me who just wouldn't buy uber expensive DACs, amps or headphones.
The "Mani" phono preamp is very good and really delivers way above it's price point. MM and MC.
The Schittbox DAC or AMP. Awesome!
Didn’t learn a thing on this tour….thank!
Shoot me over your ideas of how I should have done it differently. I’m always looking to improve and I’m sure with your experience as a content creator I would quickly be able to meet your expectations.
I started with a magni/modi a few years back and just upgraded to a jotunheim/bifrost setup so I could do balanced headphones and not look back again. gifted my magni to a friend who is just getting into hifi
got the vali 2 and the modi 2, then the modi 2 got hair dryer syndrome so i got the modi (3?) with the switch on front. i love schitt. im sure at some future point i will get into the larger tube amps on offer.
Also the young / new Audio "kids " are into streaming , They are not looking at turntables , large speakers , Amp's ,tubes or even CD's these days because everything they do is digital & from their phones / tablets etc. I just asked my 28yr old daughter what type of media she uses and how many CD' s she has and she said she has ZERO cd's or albums and plugs her phone into the car for digital streaming music and her laptop for home listening .
I’m 25 looking at turntables. My sister is 19 and has a cheap one. My friend who is 28 has a turntable and a bunch of records. Looking to buy Records of bands even from our era is expensive or hard as hell to get depending on the band and limited edition releases. It just all depends
My kid's 15 and loves vinyl.
😁
I’ve been hoping for a $150ish speaker amp from Schiit. With active sub input maybe tone controls and Bluetooth even though it’s not lossless it’s nice lol
You wont be finding bluetooth in Schiit products.
Thanks to you I bought the last Freya N, the one problem is it has no line out or sub out.
A question. Does adding a Schiit "modi" dac to a Cambridge Audio 25 or 35-watt amp make enough difference to justify for a system that is primarily for cd's??? The $125 pricetag is not much to add to $300-350. I have a pair of ELAC bookshelf (6" woofer the BK6?) and an old pair of Fisher 3-way -I am not sure the Cambridge audio can drive the Fishers however and I do not want to shop for a vintage Pioneer amp I cannot afford that stuff damn it!If I buy the Cambridge 25 watt I would have to siupplement with a subwoofer I am thinking to match with the ELAC speakers. Second question: Can a Cambridge Audio amp drive a pair of old Fisher 3-way 10' woofers or do you recommend 50 watt amp or better? I am using an old Sony home entertainment receiver and I suspect it is only 35 watts and not quite up to snuff through those Fishers-could be better which is why I picked up the ELAC s... I might go with a Cambridge Audio 50 watt unit-would you recommend that? I cannot afford vintage and it pisses me off because I grew up during all thaose receiver wars and have nothing to show Cambridge looks good seems reliable- the designer fellow has been through the wars and I been burned too many times buying used-I am disabled and some sellers on EBAY should never set foot in OREGON
Randy, when will you review the Modi multibit 2?
I wish I could afford more Schiit.
That's some good schiit.
Modi and Modius are still my favourite DACs! It's unbelievable how good they are!
ThanksMuch !
Awesome video
I have never had one bad experience with Schiit in 4 years. Be it in customer service, returns, s&h or the units itself. A+ quality to say the least when comparing to money you spend. And I'm a Canadian paying extra duties and a Canadian dollar worth 0.77 cents in U.S. currency. Thank you.
I live in the UK. I would LOVE some schiit, but they are always sold out.
Great video. For those wondering what music that was, look up: Tigerblood Jewel, feat. Steven Ellis - Bring My Friends.
Love Schiit. Just works well. Vali 2 (apologies to Magni but tubes are fun), Loki, and Modi. Bought another Modi (a 3E) on special. Love that they are here in the U.S. employing Americans. Cheap but GOOD stuff made HERE means a lot. These are gateway drugs to loving music more and more up to a Vidar and beyond.
I have the Lyrs'. How do the Vali 2s compare?
@@wsmcke well, the Vali 2 is much cheaper and puts out 1.5W into 32 Ohms while the Lyr puts out 4X (on average) that power. I'm kind of surprised it couldn't blow some headphones. 6W is a LOT of power, but I guess for some very hard to drive types, it might be needed.
As to the sound quality, the Lyr of course should be cleaner sounding maybe. You can compare the THD and other specs at Schiit's website.
And the Lyr can be operated either with a tube in the signal path or not (by removing it) and letting it run solid state only.
The Vali 2 has to have a tube in the signal path. I mean that's the reason it exists or someone would choose the Magni instead.
I've never heard the Lyr so I can't comment on how it sounds compared to my Vali 2, but I love how the Vali 2 sounds with my 600 Ohm old original AKG Monitor K240 headphones (has plenty of power to drive them) and my newer HD560S headphones.
I like that I can choose various tubes for fun to change the sonic signature. Currently I recently got a 6922/E88CC from JJ Electronics and am using it. I did have a Sylvania ECC88/6DJ8 in it. The 6922 opens up the soundstage wider, so I think I'm going to leave that one in for a very long time. Enjoy!
It is amazing that for well under $1000 you can put together a headphone rig that will offer as good a sound as a amp/speaker system costing $10K. Yeah, you don't get the visceral bass slam hitting you, but sonically you hear all that is there. Love it.
And I can listen late at night and not disturb others.
Thank you for your response... I have Fostex that are now Argons from Modhouse, they need power. I also run my Hifiman Sundaras.
I have 2 Loki's and just got a Lokius!! Best tweek's ever!! (Maybe they're not tweek's but components?)
I hope you gave the schiit man a CAM t-shirt
I love my 2 Modi 3+'s.... Great DACs.
Love me some schiit
I love my Schiit Lyr, first gen, with 2 tubes, and I have Russian tubes in them that sound great with my planar headphones.
WOW, Jason sounds just like Dan at Emotiva.
was that a sneak peak at the end of some new schiit?
He speaks of "toaster". Hmmmn. Since video is no longer analog these days, it can't be a Video Toaster TM like for the Amiga computer back in the day. I know! It's an Audio Toaster TM ! I don't know quite what it'll be or what it'll do, but that sounds awesome.
I'll bet that "pops up" in 2023.
Whatever became of the Schiit Sol turntable?
