    Very informative and enjoyable time spent listening to you guys - all three of you, Randy (aka Cheap Audio Man), Ron of NRD and jason of Schiit Audio capture the down-to-earth and genuinely open spirit that makes me proud to be an American citizen myself. Love the entrepreneurial get-up-and-go that characterizes Schiit Audio and its founder Jason, and as well, the story of how he started his business, as well as how it got its name (sometimes the best names spring to mind at the most unexpected moments). A big thank-you to all three of you. I was touched when your discussion frankly addressed the very real supply-chain problems everyone world-wide is contending with right now. This was an hour well spent!

    Great interview. Very revealing info on the company. Interestingly, I just auditioned the Freya S and Freya Plus coupled with the Vidar at the Schiitr retail store in Newhall CA. I liked the transparency and detail of the Freya S ( it was amazing what additional subtleties revealed from tracks that I know well), whereas the Plus was more "musical," but had a veiled character. In the end, I chose the Freya S. Could not be happier with this combination with the Vidar. What a difference this makes in driving my refurbished AR-2ax speakers compared to a vintage 1980s amp. Thanks for confirming my opinion on the Freya S. It's a winner and a great value. But it should be paired with "warm" sources (CD player, cartridge, etc.) since it is so revealing.

    • @michaelwright1602
      @michaelwright1602 2 года назад

      I own the original Freya, but I am looking at the Freya S to replace it. I love the tubes, and completely understand the "veiled character" of the tubes. It plays well with some sources,material, but not all, hence thinking of going to the new S. I have yet to hear the S, but from what I am seeing on various reviews, the S may be more up my line.

I personally think it would be really cool if they took an integrated amp like an Asgard 3 and made it a fully integrated amp with the ability to run speakers like the ragnarok, just in the small foot print of an Asgard or Jotunheim. I actually think something like that would sell like hot cakes coming from a company like schiit.

    I just ordered a freya + preamp and two Aegirs. Nothing but problems. One Aegir is fine. The other one developed a humm in the left channel. I sent it in for repair. I got a note back telling me that nothing is wrong with the amp. I hooked it up next to the good one using the test outlined in their manual, namely no inputs connected but hooked to speaker cables. Now the amp returned from repair has a buzz in both channels! The other amp is dead silent. Both were hooked up to the same outlet with the same cable and hooked to the same speakers. The Freya + had a dead left channel so I started changing tubes thinking it was a bad tube. I got down to the last tube to exchange with a known good tube. While I was removing the tube, and I got smoke from the tube hole. I sent it back for repair. I got a note back saying they replaced a capacitor and a resistor blown by a bad tube along with a new set of tubes. I hooked up the preamp and while it works fine in the buffered stage, now the tube section will not light off at all the tubes cold!. The note that came back with the preamp said "Don't use bad tubes" So the technician is not only incompetent, he thinks he's funny. This is bullshit. I am a big fan of their products or was. I wonder how many customers this clown is going to cost Schiit because I may be out if I can never get them fixed. I was going to hold off with criticism giving them a chance to fix things but I'm done. I want a new amp and the preamp fixed.

      @@cheapaudioman Thanks Randy. Ive said my piece. Right now if they can't fix the amp, give me a new one or refund my money. Same with the preamp. I have been patient with them considering the price etc. I had to send my Gungnir back because the RCA input came loose when hooked to a stiff COAX cable I had been testing a lot of cables but not to an extent that it should come loose. I had to send the Ragnok bak because one of the banana plug inputs was really to large and the binding post had to be repaired. So far every thing I've gotten from them has had to go back for one thing big or small. The only thing that hasn't broken is the Loki and I don't use it. I have lost patience.

    Some of Schiit's lower end stuff has held up, but I don't trust any of their stuff higher end (above $500) to stand the test of time. And if anything breaks, good luck!

    I own a lot of Schiit! Saga, Vidar, Mimby, Loki, Lokius, Jil, Magni V1, and Mani. Love the company and what they are doing, obviously! I have been following Jason's Head-Fi thread for a lot of years now. Wonderful read (he has links in the first post, to all of his posts throughout the years) about the inner workings of the company and getting products to market. Really exciting they are expanding the 2 channel offerings, cannot wait to see this amp! Also looking at the Urd transport whenever that makes it to market.
    Awesome interview, and hopefully you 3 can schedule a tour, or some other cool video in the future, with the people over at Schiit Audio!

    This was fun! I'd love to see them implement the ess 9038 Pro DAC chip that has identical features as the Oppo Sonica DAC-3 (now "unobtainium") the wireless streaming features and sound of this DAC are so good if Schiit gave it a whirl I'd get it in a quick second!!! I'm sure it would sell. Pleeeez do!

    Schiit Audio is a company that makes sense for many people if they discover it. If you are an audiophile and not flexible, your fortune with Schiit maybe not for you. If you are someone who loves something easy to get and use, mostly at least. Schiit is for you. I know Jason though it has been years since we talked. I used to be the sales manager for Emotiva Audio. So I know brands Emotiva and Schiit pretty well. I have the Modius and Asgard 3 and had a Magni before used a Lyr too. I fly Hifiman Sundara and the Asgard 3. I am looking for a particular sound and the Asgard 3 is just missing that something, but on my other cans it is great. But you can't talk about affordable headphone without the name Schiit coming up. Like them or hate them, Schiit is pretty much everywhere. I am curious about Freya or even Saga, and Vidar.

    Many of my avid supporters think that my channel name-sake (acronym) is meant to be a strong supporter and advocate for Schiit ... Some say they are synonymous ...and I'd love to do that. Vidar amps are especially alluring for my intended 2ch systems.

      I got the Aegir and the vidars. I like the vidars but I love the Agars! If you have a high efficiency speaker get the Aegir and don't look back. The Aegir is my first class A amp, wow what a difference!

      @@econautx sorry about that I misspelled Aegir. The vidars do not have more bass than the Aegir not even close! I own them both so I do know. I'm running Cornwall 4's The vidars get louder but do not have more bass! The Aegir is far superior in every way then the vidars. That being said do you want to buy a set of vidars? The vidars are probably the ticket if you don't have a high efficiency speaker. I fixed my spelling for you 🤣 Cheers. This is the reason I have a set of vidars, I thought it was going have more bass and be more dynamic, it was just not the case in my setup. Class A all the way if you have a high efficient speaker!
