KASSEL: The VW dispute enters the next round! IG Metall threatens toughest bargaining battle yet
The wage dispute at Volkswagen is coming to a head. Following nationwide work stoppages at nine locations, the works council and union are today informing employees in Kassel about the next steps. The plant there, which employs over 15,000 people, is threatened with closure. The workforce is demanding clear commitments against compulsory redundancies and plant closures. Volkswagen, on the other hand, wants to implement a pay cut due to high costs and falling demand. Both sides meet again on December 9, but the fronts are hardened. Trade unions are threatening massive industrial action if the negotiations fail.
