      Yes a heavy emissions era Chevy and Dodge versus a right before the emissions cut era for trucks anyway Ford...and the Ford still lost. All the haters will say the chevy has a crate engine, cheaper mods... Maybe if Ford had a plethora of strong small blocks instead of a select few, they could of made affordable power or crate engines too. That's a testament to the SBC.

    • @josephg41
      @josephg41 4 года назад +1

      @@ashes2ashes863 Since when is 1974 "before" the emissions era? Just look at the performance numbers for a 1970 F250 wayyyyy higher. Hell the compression ratios fell massively. And so the Chevy wins with a brand new crate engine over a near 50 year-old emissions choked stock-engine '74 Ford. Yeah really impressive for the Chevy. Try comparing a '74 Ford vs a '85 Chevy stock for stock and do this same test.

    • @josephg41

    Holy crap!!! $15k in the Chevy!!! In the end, its worth half that on the market. The Dodge is a more practical build, but still has a lot of aftermarket mods. Everyone seems to want a crate motor in the Ford. I'd rather see the Ford be the one that doesn't get "molested." Keep it original and just fix it. Rebuild the motor, rebuild the heads and a new timing chain kit. Rebuild the transmission if it needs it. If air flow is still a problem, get a carb spacer, larger intake manifold or even a bigger carburetor. Experiment a little and do a little research with some old school mechanics. But get the parts and do it yourself! For off-road, it might need an oil cooler, an electric engine fan, an electric fuel pump and some upgraded shocks. Again, these simple, minimal and practical upgrades that can be done over a weekend. There's already too many over priced, over modded, mall crawler videos on RUclips. That old Ford is old but a classic. And by keeping it original and putting in the time, you might find it could be worth more than the other two trucks combined. Just my 2¢.

    Every time one of these channels does a competition with Ford Trucks they always use a Ford that is the oldest and has the most miles on it against the competition. The same thing was done with those idiots from Top Gear USA when they put a 70's Ford with a high mileage engine against a restored 80's Chevy, against a 90's Dodge Ram. Rebuild that Ford engine or put a crate engine in there and the driver would be at the finish line taking a nap, waiting for the others to arrive. Regardless, I'd still take the '74 Ford as is over anything GM or Dodge has to offer.

    That old Ford weighs significantly more being a F250 long bed than that Chevrolet k10 1/2 ton shortbed. Which by the way is lighter then the ford f150 short bed 4x4 of the same year. That old Ford would have probably been a bunch harder for that Chevrolet to beat if it were a f150. A truck length lead with all that go fast stuff and a crate engine compared to that old rough running 3/4 ton long bed Ford isn't making that Chevrolet look anything but unimpressive. If $11,000 was spent under the hood of that Ford on a rebuild of that FE to 390 CI if it isnt already , add a Pair of Edelbrock Aluminum heads, Edelbrock Streetmaster intake and a Holley Center dump 750 cfm carb and Comp 268H cam , Ignition upgrade to the Duraspark big cap and spacer with MSD box and ceramic headers and 2" exhaust out to the rear, shift improvement kit in the C6 ...That Chevrolet would have got owned handidly . Easily a few truck lengths if not more depending on the traction the Ford would lose initially. Them FE Fords arent anything to underestimate stock . With the parts list I mentioned they will make 450 HP reliably for years. But HP doesnt mean a thing in those pickups. Its Torque thats important and that FE would make a gob of it with the parts list I described. With a consistent production in the 525 - 530 ft lbs peaking around the 3100 - 3200 rpm range. I know first hand having built a couple exactly as described and they transform from a great engine having great power and reliailiy to Mean tire shredding SOBs for not a bunch of money relatively speaking.

    A cam, heads and stall converter in the ford would make it blow the Chevy out of the water. I’m a Chevy but. But the 360/390 is a bulletproof motor that made TONS of power reliably FROM FACTORY. You want a neat car? Swap a 390 into a Fox. Talk about a fun car.

    Tommy, you need to stop pumping the throttle every time you start it. Pump it once, then start it. You're flooding it, you can see the black smoke on start up, too much fuel. Could probably use a tune of the carb too, and check timing.

    Does Dodgezilla still have the stock 3.55 gears in the axles? It looks like it based on the way it comes off the line. I highly recommend going to 4.10s and also Mr. Truck should adjust the TV cable from the trans to the throttle body to increase the line pressure and make it shift at redline. Those two mods will make all the difference.

      i have a 96 GMC 5.7. with 3600000 km.... just changed wheel bearings and rotors and waterpump....tranny works fine..it towed a 5 th wheel camper to Arizona from canada both ways for the first 10 years of its life. granted there is Wednesday build and Friday afternoon build quality factor....

I got my money's worth out of it and then some. Did all the seasons, did all the terrains. Never left me stranded. And I was not kind to it. lol Hauled everything from furniture, motorbikes, trash, lumber.. too much to list. Bottom line, those trucks are worth every penny. First step on the F would be tare the engine down make sure it is a 390 if not get a 390 crank, and pistons , .080" over bore, 11:1 at 6,000 feet you could run pump gas, Comp 280H cam, Performer intake, some bowl blending on the heads, a performance valve job, 600cfm Holley, rebuilt trans. you would just watch that $15,000 chevy fade in the mirrors! And spent $4,000 to $5,000. I estimate 370hp@4,500 rpm and 510 ftlbs of torque @ 3,000 rpm at the crank.
