When my dad passed in 2005 I would get in my car at night and get on the interstate and drive while playing this song on repeat, trying to holding back tears that blinded my vision at times. I can't explain the feeling but this song and the starry night made me feel in a way calm at peace and okay at such a hard time in my life.

I am a retired cop and saw many a person suffer and some die from overdoses, wrecked families trying to save an addicted family member. It visited my home and took my 22 yr old stepson in 1999 after an eight year war. He is better off dead than imprisoned or addicted. His sister is now 47 and a long time addict and will eventually die from "it".My wife and I took her 4 yr old son away from her and have custody and him at age 17 now. If anyone ever tries to start him on drugs they will suddenly disappear. Thanks for the beautiful song Dido. It has meaning to me.

Don't Leave Home always reminds me of a very toxic relationship I had. This friend had a severe drug problem (in addition to other mental problems) and I thought of myself as his savior and that I'd be the the one to make it all better for him. Silly me. I had just bought Life For Rent and one night I was in bed listening to it. This song was playing when the phone rang and it was him, crying and having a major meltdown, caused by drug abuse and his own paranoia. I got out of bed and took a cab in the middle of the night, traveled across the city I lived in, just to be there for him and the whole time this song played in my head. I stayed by his side for many days and nights, putting my own life and needs on hold just to support him and help him recover. There I was, losing myself because I thought I'd be his "safety". Eventually it all fell apart, I wised up to his manipulations, and I could not listen to this song for years. I was a lot older, wiser and more jaded when I listened to this song again and discovered what Dido really meant to say. I was shocked, but at the same time made perfect sense. So this song was closure to me in many ways, and the coincidence between my situation and the song was part of a bigger lesson that I needed to go through... and for that I'll always thank Dido.

I still remember seeing her at the Paramount in Seattle with my teenage daughter. She said that a lot of people thought this was a love song, but that it was really about addiction and that it would be a really unhealthy relationship. I have to admit that I was one of the people that thought it was a love song. I also remember that her percussionist was amazing and Dido was spectacular.

Don't Leave Home always reminds me of a very toxic relationship I had. This friend had a severe drug problem (in addition to other mental problems) and I thought of myself as his savior and that I'd be the the one to make it all better for him. Silly me. I had just bought Life For Rent and one night I was in bed listening to it. This song was playing when the phone rang and it was him, crying and having a major meltdown, caused by drug abuse and his own paranoia. I got out of bed and took a cab in the middle of the night, traveled across the city I lived in, just to be there for him and the whole time this song played in my head. I stayed by his side for many days and nights, putting my own life and needs on hold just to support him and help him recover. There I was, losing myself because I thought I'd be his "safety". Eventually it all fell apart, I wised up to his manipulations, and I could not listen to this song for years. I was a lot older, wiser and more jaded when I listened to this song again and discovered what Dido really meant to say. I was shocked, but at the same time made perfect sense. So this song was closure to me in many ways, and the coincidence between my situation and the song was part of a bigger lesson that I needed to go through... and for that I'll always thank Dido.

I still remember seeing her at the Paramount in Seattle with my teenage daughter. She said that a lot of people thought this was a love song, but that it was really about addiction and that it would be a really unhealthy relationship. I have to admit that I was one of the people that thought it was a love song. I also remember that her percussionist was amazing and Dido was spectacular.
