Great video guys. As a mechanic for 20 years I agree with all but one thing. If you live in a cold climate, Do Not Start your engine just to cycle the oil. Only run if you can drive it to normal operating temps. Two reasons, here in the north, an unheated garage can get well below freezing and that oil (20w50) get very thick to nearly gel like. Very hard on the pump and parts when it starts. Also a by product of combustion is condensation. That’s why you see water coming out of tailpipes on cars before they get to full operating temperature. Unless you get that engine fully warmed up to where the water burns off, that water will sit on your internal parts including cylinder walls. Water and steel obviously not a good mix. I don’t mean to be that guy that sounds like he knows it all, I’ve just seen bad things from short run engines. I love what you do guys!! Thanks for keeping my winters entertaining.
Right on, thanks for the info!! That wasn't on our list anyway, but someone decided to mention it haha. Very good points, we appreciate the insight!👍
How dare you do an oil change and not have all of the official HD funnels for the primary/ oil filter!… 😂. I was going to say the same thing about starting it, unless you can ride it to get it up to temp, don’t start it! The condensation it created causes more harm than good and people that start their bike regularly during the winter end up with rust inside their engine and milky oil come spring time….😢
I love the color and look on that bike it reminds me of a WWII bike
Thank you!!
Coolest Road King ever.
Thank you! It's got quite a bit cooler since this video was filmed😎
What about the 4th hole? 😆 Great video guys!!
Join our premium subscription for that one 😂
Thanks dudes
An important point is to remove derby cover screws first just in case you strip a head bolt out. If that happens you cannot go anywhere on the bike because the primary was drained first.
YuP oN a wEdNeSdaY 🎯❤️👁️
Oh yeh.... I learnt that the hard way😭
Good point!
Great video lot of good information and a hell-of a lot cheaper than letting hd dealer's do it. Thank's for sharing.
Glad you found it helpful, Bo! Thanks for tuning in. Definitely a lot cheaper doing it yourself👍
I have 2 tips
1) unplug each compartment 1 by one and measure amount of oil its coming out. Now you can see if there is something wrong.
2) flush the airfilter from inside out….then all the dirt is washing out properly
Good to see your vid anyway! Regards from a follower from Holland
Thanks for the tips👍
You guys rock! See y’all down that road!!
See ya down the road!!
Thank you, gentleman. This was a great video. I would have liked to see exactly how to clean the air filter? Are you going to do a separate video on changing the brake fluid? This is cost efficient. No longer paying HD 160.00 dollars an hour or maybe more.
2LaneLife definitely appreciate this.
Thanks Loco Ocho, glad you found it useful! We should've filmed the air cleaner section but took care of it before the camera came out. Simply spray it down with K&N Power Kleen on all surfaces, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse it out in the sink and let it dry before putting it back in the bike.
We have a previous video on our channel where we showed that in detail and another video showing the testing and replacement of the brake fluid. Once you do it yourself it definitely saves you a lot of money. Thanks for watching!
@2LaneLife Thank you, for your immediate response. Definitely appreciated 👍 I enjoy your watching your road trips.
Ride Safe ✌️
@@2LaneLife Your K&N oil filter doesn't require being re oiled before reinstallation, so that it has that red color? Had to do that on my K&N's on my airplane filters, dual Bing CV carbs
I have always kept a maintenance log. I have been using a battery tender for ages. My last bike I had I kept a battery tender on it. That battery lasted about 9 yrs.
Good stuff!! Now that's some serious life out of your battery😎
Deadwood green looks soo good. Wish they offered it on a roadglide special. Got that road king looking awesome. Dig the color matched memphis shades fairing
It sure does!! Love that Deadwood Green. Got a paint matched FXRP fairing on there now and she's lookin' mighty fine👍
Great Video
Great tips
Thanks Robert!
Thanks for the good video 🤘🇺🇸
Thanks for tuning in, Jim! Hopefully you found it useful
always awesome content guys. keep it up!
Thanks Hanz!! Glad you're enjoying the vids!!
Great video guys do most maintenance myself currently in my heated garage on my tenner for winter won’t be long here in NY snow on the ground still
Thanks for tuning in, Jeff! Hopefully things warm up for ya soon👍
Thumbs up for the Voodoo Ranger 👍
🤝
Lance! Not 3months up here in Winnipeg Canada! More like 6-7months! GOSHHHHHHH!!!!!
Sheesh! Now that's a winter!
Awesome camera work Gaylin…I think you have a great future behind the camera😂
One step at a time 😂
Thank for this video, say me please what brand windshield.? Memphis.?
Good video guys how much oil for the primary?
1 quart
This really saves a lot on services fees.
It sure does!
Great video! I have to o know where Josh got the fairing!
Thanks Mike! It's a memphis shades road warrior fairing with a 17" windshield on his Road King. We have them on our website. Are you on a Road King as well? They make them for various models, we'd be happy to help you out when the time comes👍

Josh the type of guy to look you in the eye and give you a firm grip during a handshake.
You can bet on it 😂 🫡

Would it be ok to change fluids more frequently even if the mileage isnt put on and 2) would it be ok to fill the gas tank and add a stabilizer to it?
Is it mandatory to adjust the clutch, both the nut and screw behind the cover, and the clutch cable, every 5k miles, or just do every 10k when you have to do the clutch and primary chain oil?
Is that oil better than Harley Davidson brand synthetic?
Is that the original air filter? I was told at the HD dealer I could not clean the original one cause it was cardboard and bought a new one.
Some bikes came with the cardboard disposable ones but ours have the reusable filters👍
Your link to Maxima goes to EVO engines, not M8 kits. Maxima apparently is showing not in stock.
Bummer my first change on my TK was using their product after watching your video. Looking elsewhere.
You have to select your desired oil change kit in the dropdown menu in that link. There are more than just Evo kits in that link. We have full change kits with chrome filters and quick change kits with black filter in stock and ready to ship on our website. Thanks for tuning in👍
Either all the way up or all the ways down with the fuel if a dew point is reached with nowadays fuel a separation occurs which will indicate a level😥 of corrosion. Sad but true. 😎😏✌🏻❤️🇨🇦
Thanks for the info Jerold 👍
@@2LaneLife I am OLD. 👍🏻✌🏻❤️🇨🇦
Good video, but I don't really agree with starting your bike during the winter unless you can get that bike up to normal operating temperature.
Yep, you would be correct. We should have done a bit more research on that as we do not personally have much real life experience winterizing bikes given the year round riding here. Thanks for the input👍
You don’t wanna just start the bike and let it run. If your not taking it out for a ride to get it up to operating temperature then you just leave it alone. Starting it and not allowing it to get up to operating temperature will cause condensation built up and possibly pre-nature corrosion due to this.
Thanks for the info, we've gotten a few comments on that and now realize the issue. Much appreciated
Is primary and transmission fluid recommended vs 20-50
Yes, we use primary specific oil and 80W-90 Transmission oil
@@2LaneLife Thank you
Stupid question, but I’ll ask anyway. When draining the oil, you don’t need the bike upright? Will it all drain out on the jiffy stand? Thank you.
Yes you can drain it on the jiffy stand, just let it sit for a while. Being that the drain plugs are on the left side of the case and the bike is leaning to the left when on the jiffy stand, most if not all of it gets drained in due time. Surely some will have their own opinions on that, but that's how we do it👍
What is the fairing he has?
Josh has a Memphis Shades Road Warrior on his Road King. They make fairings for many different bikes.

What headlight is on that bike?
Custom Dynamics 7" Halo LED

Sweet lookin bike! 👍🏽 Anyone out there have a touring, low seated model HD you're willing to donate to a 5' short someone who's never ridden an HD? I'm looking to become a believer, but I can't afford to buy one. Lol
Got an air pressure question. I’m a heavy rider on an Ultra. If tire pressure is at 40 when I start it’s normal for it to be 50+ in summer riding after a short time. Should I start at a lower than manufacturers recommending pressure such as 35 to compensate the expansion?
Read your motorcycle’s manual. Your answer is there.
You do realize the manufacturers recommendation is for cold tires anyway
Hello, so it's ok to do fluid change on kick stand? Doesn't have to be level?
We do it all of the time
Love that seat! link to seller? thanks in advance

There are different fitments available as well, but this link is for 08-current touring models
why are you changing all three holes at the same time? Seems like a waste of oil, when the service manual does not have you doing so.
We travel cross-country year round and would otherwise find ourselves near or at the end of an oil interval for the tranny or primary half way through a 10+ day trip, so the extra couple bucks to keep the components fresh and happy is a worthwhile investment for peace of mind for us.
What fairing is that ??
Memphis Shades Road Warrior with 17" windshield

DON'T FORGET THE LOCTITE!
👍
Loctite for ALL the plugs and which colored one?
Just saying if you’re doing a service on the love of your life Use. 1/4 in. System and O-rings. LoVen the. LiFe. Clean the fuzz. WeLLBee✌🏻❤️🇨🇦
P. S. - winter sux 😭
🤙🤙
Gaylin needs a new agent :)
Haha uh oh!!
If you have to park your bike in a cold garage for a long period of time, try to park your bike on a piece of carpet, it will save your tires in the long run.
Interesting! Thanks for the tip👍
I had also heard this over 30+ years ago (unfortunately last time I had a bike) and used to put mine on two pieces of furring strips. Idk if it would be better than carpet though. Just bought a 2024 Breakout after not having had a bike for 28 years. It's as if I'm starting new all over again. Last bike was an '89 Softail Custom that I had dumped a lot of money into. Unfortunately developed a "monkey in my back" and had to sell it and it broke my heart. Only thing good that came out of it ... been clean since 1998 🙏🏼. Great video btw
DO NOT start your bike over the winter especially in really cold climates. thats an old way of thinking. its proven to do more harm then good.
Yea we found that out after posting this. Thanks for the insight👍
