    Why do people insist on wasting oil? Three hole oil change is wrong. Read your service manual. The transmission oil is not ready to be changed at the same time as oil and primary....just saying. This is a waste of oil and money

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  2 месяца назад +18

      Are you drinking the oil after you change yours? oil is 5k, primary is 10k and transmission is 20k...I know math is hard but hang in there and I'll walk you through it tiger ...... first time is an oil change (5k), second time is oil and transmission (10K), 3rd time is oil change(15k), 4th time is ALL 3 (20k) rinse and repeat. Hence " 3 hole oil change". jesus this is the shit I wake up to...do better.

      Clean oil is some of the best insurance toward mechanical longevity! Lots of evidence out there that HD's maint intervals for the primary/tranny are too loose. 3-hole it baby!!

      I live in the southwest dry, dusty, and extreme heat. For example, it’s 09/30/24 and it’s 107 degrees. Yesterday, it was 114. So, the extreme temperatures where I live causes the oils to lose their “flavor” quicker. I do the 3-holes changes ( for the most part) on my own.
      I’m doing one this afternoon, it was 72 dollars total for the fluids, filter, and rings.
      Nothing wrong with completing the 3 hole more than HD says.

      This was a great step by step video. A 3 hole change in Canada is North of $500 at the dealer, and I’ll never have to pay for that one again. I found Amazon was a great source for “an oil change in a box”, so $200 and a little video time in the shop was a much smaller pill to swallow. Thanks for all you do!!

    Tip for the oil filter slipping. Mine did the same thing, I had some skateboard tape ruff on one side and peel adhesive on the other side. I cut strips of it stuck it to the inside of the oil filter wrench and used it. The ruff side will grip the filter and you'll be able to get it off without it slipping.

      You're very welcome! I'm thrilled to hear that the video was helpful to you! Learning how to do your own oil changes can be a great way to save money and take more control over the maintenance of your bike. By doing the oil changes yourself, you not only save on labor costs but also gain a better understanding of your bike's needs. It's a valuable skill that can potentially extend the lifespan of your engine.

    Excellent video really enjoyed your sense of humor. I’ve been riding motorcycle since 1972, have always done my own oil changes for the most part. I ride a 2000 road king and the first thing I do when I buy a bike is get a service manual if I can find one. The service manual has 5000 miles all three holes so that’s what I do.

    Im not mechanically inclined, I bought every item you recommended here and changed my oil and transmission. (Only at 5k miles) My transmission oil was so clean for a sec I thought it was the oil I just changed but then I saw that you recommend doing that at 20k. Gotta still do my primary. This was a great video! Would like to see another done specifically on what else to check and service at 5 or 10k miles and also how to change spark plugs. Thanks Steve!

      @sikbaggers  6 месяцев назад

      glad the videos helped and saved you some money! It wont hurt to do all 3 holes after the first initial 5k miles because you can really check for metal scraps in your oil and see if you have anything crazy going on in there. I do have a spark plug video I just put out about a month ago here on the M8's ruclips.net/video/He3g2dMXBGg/видео.htmlsi=L_X60C692sVgNatS I haven't done a whole video on maintenance schedules but this link here will give a great idea of what needs checked and when www.stonewallhd.com/Service/Maintenance-Intervals

    Steve AS ALWAYS...You nailed it. I do my own services as well and do it exactly as you just showed. The only difference is...I refuse to use a Harley Oil filter.
    Harley filters are made by FRAM (Death in a can) which is THE WORST oil filter there is. The only other option is to use a Chrome KnN.
    AGAIN like oil...thats another argument.
    Thing is...youde be surprized how many people dont know the difference in filters.
    Us Mechanics and motorheads know!!!

      Thank you Sir! Never really had an issue with the HD versions but I usually run the Amsoil filters...do you happen to know the efficiency rating at what micron level for the k&n? without me having to do a bunch of research lol let me know...all I could ever find on the HD is 5 microns but that means nothing to me if it doesn't tell me an efficiency rating...like 90% efficient at stopping 5 microns? 70? who knows lol

    • @sirsloth8579
      @sirsloth8579 2 года назад

      @@sikbaggers ... I get what you're saying lol. But according to KnN... the efficiency rating for their filters depending upon the application is between 25 and 100 microns. The thing that I like about their filter is there is you can use conventional oil as well as synthetic And still have the same level of protection. I have been an auto technician for 45 yearsAnd I refuse to use a frame oil filter on my car or any for any car what alone on my sled. Working on cars over the years I have for the years I have done my research just like you with bikes and found that frame is the worst filter out there. The only thing that they have is a paper element inside inside and I lot of times the Element just decentegrates Leaving no kind of protection at all shouldn't at all in the element element after it disintegrates ends up in your engine With no way to filter it out.

    Ite. I just did an oil change on my Ultra Limited. I found that it takes 6 quarts exactly. I put 4 qts in the engine, and I did like you did with a graduated cylinder to get 28 ounces and 30 ounces, and then put the rest of the oil from THOSE containers in the engine. Took it for a short ride, checked the engine and trans oil, and the levels are perfect!
    Sure appreciate your video Sir!
    PS. I tried the foil trick on the oil filter. Still made a bloody fn mess on the garage floor. LOL

      Hey robert thanks for the comment man and for checking out the video...yeah that tin foil trick can be a mess too..using one of those funnels designed for that is also kinda tricky to get in there...best way is to stuff a bunch of old rags in there and twist out as fast as you can and let the rags soak it up.

    Just purchased my first harley 2023 road glide coming from a metric 2004 nomad. Harley made it sound like rocket science to change the oil. They did say they would do the labor portion free for the first oil change so I may let them. But im a killer shade tree mechanic who actually enjoys a sunday morning oil change so I will be doing mine from then on. This video is great, I subbed, liked and saved this video for when it is time to do the changes. I'm assuming the oil type/weight is all the same for all 3 holes? I'll be sure to look in my manual, and I didn't know that there were different intervals, ill look closely at that as well. Excellent tips all around, this vid will make it a breeze. Looking foward to checking out some more of your videos.

    One remark: if you use a vented dip stick that happens to move with you from bike to bike, make sure the measurements are taken with the original OEM dipstick or you screw up the oil change (ask me how I know 😂). I thought I overfilled until I realized that the dipstick is with me since my 96ci days.

    Totally agree with you on Harley WAY over-torquing the oil filter. I did my first DIY oil change on my M8 last week. I found Teflon tape or something like it all over my drain plug and the oil filter was on so tight that my Harley oil filter wrench skipped off. I thought the wrench must be the wrong size. Nope, I had crushed the top of the filter to the point that the wrench was just spinning. Ended up using a shop rag inside the filter wrench, tapping it on with a rubber mallet, then using a breaker bar on top of my ratchet handle to get the filter loose. Then I spent five minutes getting the old filter off the wrench.
    Moral of the story: Harley needs to stop telling their wrenches to over-torque the oil filter. I bet they do that so people will bring their bikes in to the dealer for service.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Год назад +1

      Ive learned that the M8, for some reason, has a way of tightening itself over time too...not sure why...even bikes Ive changed the oil on and know I have not over tightened it, came back to me for the next oil change and was tight as shit...asked my buddy, a tech at HD, and he said the same thing..they all come back tight...so we get to deal with that now lol

    When checking the trans oil level the manual says to put the dip stick in and not screw it in. insert the pit stick until the threads touch.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Год назад

      From the service manual 1.Park motorcycle on a level surface on jiffy stand. 2.See Figure 1. Remove transmission filler plug/dipstick. Wipe dipstick clean. 3.Install filler plug/dipstick until O-ring contacts the case. Do not tighten. 4.See Figure 2. Remove filler plug/dipstick. Check lubricant level on dipstick. Proper oil level is between the Add (A) (1) and Full(F) (2) marks
      Im not sure what year of bike you have but this is for the 19' M8 but always go by what your manual says. Please make sure yours says not to screw it in and doesnt say do not tighten...huge difference.

    Go to your local john deere store and buy a strap oil filter wrench that you can put a 1/2”ratchet on. Had way better luck with them than any plier or cap wrench. You explain everything in so much detail and it's enjoyable to watch all your how-to videos. Well, I did I bought a Road King for Christmas and traded in my Dyna. My question to you is I bought the 5 oil changes when I purchased it. My thinking is, it's under warranty so they can look the bike over and fix things as I ride it, I always after the warranty is over start doing everything myself. I always use syn 3 in all 3 holes, Harley dealer told me they stopped doing that and put syn gear oil in 2 holes, I hit 1200 miles and the first service is after the holidays should I tell them my way, or their way. Because I will have to do it that way? Your thought on the syn oil versus syn gear oil in 2 holes? Thank you, Merry Christmas!!!!
