    Hey, this was my first attempt at detailing. The video helped me greatly. I followed the steps as laid out. It worked. The only problem I ran into was the polishing pads. Didn't realize they are different grit.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes in the links I provided on this video I marked them as Medium and Finishing pads. Usually anything blue is a mediun pad and is a great place to start if you are really doing any kind of paint correction and the blacks are always finishing ...now that may vary between brands but 98% of the time its the same across brands.

      I know this may sound extreme to most, but I use a steamer; McCulloch MC1385; to be exact. Only because the steam helps brings out the dirt and helps to protect the paint. That being said, NO I do not have a show room bike. It has scratches ....gouges from being laid down. I still continue to try and help keep the integrity of the bike. I mean she's still my girl.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  2 года назад +2

      You can definitely get it back into shape with all this info here in this video with the time you have. The trick is keeping it in good shape then your weekly maintenance is very little. To get it back into shape get yourself a buffer and some compound, preferably the Last cut I mentioned in this video. that will get you back in shape quick. Then wax ...preferably that Colonite 845...that stuff lasts a long time and will help you keep that shine...the biggest thing you can do is never, ever wipe your bike with a dry cloth. Ever! Always use a waterless wash or a quick detailer and if its super dirty, spray. let it soak a little bit, spray again and then lightly wipe, flipping your towel over several times and even using more than one towel...If your towel is loaded up with dirt you are certainly scratching your clear coat. There are a ton of quick detailers out there and they all pretty much work the same to be honest. Every time you come in, give her a quick wipe down and that will keep you having to spend hours wiping her down all at one time.

    • @russparks9779
      @russparks9779 2 года назад

      @@sikbaggers would you recommend doing it in sections, for example compound one day , then wax the next day? Or compound and wax just the batwing, then move to the tank, fender, ect. ?

  • @La.Negra_Vicla
    @La.Negra_Vicla 4 месяца назад

    I may have missed it, but say you do this whole process right? How do you recommend washing the bike from then on? To avoid the swirls, etc?

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  4 месяца назад

      making sure that you never ever dry wipe your bike. Always use a quick detailer or waterless wash to clean even a little dust off and use a clean microfiber. The quick detailer will lift the dust up into the microfiber and not just swirl it around on your clear coat. same as washing...always make sure your cleaning mitt is just that, clean. If it hits the ground..its trash.throw it away. Make sure you use a PH balanced soap so it doesnt strip away your wax. Dry it with either a blower or drying towel.

    awesome video as usual. I'll have to look through again but do have video for say new bike or bike without problems. but you probably would use same procedure.MY experience with last bike when I used the dual action buffer was the wax polish etc went everywhere. Have you tried any ceramic yet? Not looking for long lasting, seems like after a few washes it's mostly gone, but looking for ultimate gloss shine. Back in the day we used to wet sand and buff but thats gone the way with base coat clear coats0

      @sikbaggers  2 года назад

      Hey Jim...yes we have our cars and trucks ceramic coated but we havent done the bikes. I like to polish and wax my bikes..therapy for me if you will. Get yourself a foam pad and add 3 drops of whatever product your using and on the lowest setting work the product into the paint then gradually add speed and you wont sling it...I dont use the polisher for wax though...only polishing. You can but I like to lay my wax down in straight overlapping lines. I use the spray on P&S Bead Maker for a final high gloss shine. Its awesome. Your paint will feel like silk.

      if the bags are scuffing really easy it could a sign that your leather is pretty dry...apply some leather conditioner to the whole bag..apply a generous amount..think about it as a lotion...rub it in, let it sit and maybe do it again...then your scuff marks should come off pretty easy by just hitting it again with the lotion.

    if you're at the point where you need to claybar your paint...you're likely never gonna take care it any better than you did before the paint refurbishment. been using mcguire's $20 car wax w/carnuba on my c7 vette and '12 HD ultra limited...paint looks brand new with the exception of a few dings that are filled w/matched touch up. key is at least wiping down or washing your bike after riding. spend an hour taking care of what takes care of you on fun time.

      Agreed that some keep coming back like this...BUT sometimes they just need a little knowledge on "keeping" it clean and preventing this much paint correction needing to be done. Ive had several customers whos bikes come in like this and I spend some time teaching them how to properly take care of the paint and they actually do. Some however do not and they keep coming back. Wow, excellent video, I learned a lot. I have a black 2007 Electra Glide. My issue is that whenever I wash it the black plastic parts turn almost cream or white in color. When the plastic is dried the white color fades away. I have used a clay bar to clean and waxed but the problem keeps coming back. Is this something that inherent with the Harley paint or am I doing something wrong?

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  2 года назад

      The oils in the palstic degrade over time and dry out...that's where I use the Mother back to black. Now depending on how bad it is you will want to put that stuff on thick and let it sit. You may have to do this several times to ad the pills back into the plastic. Its like a lotion...just smear it on thick and let it sit for about an hour and wipe it off and repeat.

It only last a few days an u gotta spray it again. Wd40 is another one that works great but thats not something u want on ur clothes or on ur breaks an rotors. I've bought F11 for years. This is how and why I buy their product..... I can usually get the girls selling it to detail my entire truck inside and out. Negotiate a discount on a box or two. Professional truck detail: 180.00 interior 80.00 exterior. A bunch of F11 product: 80-100. 160.00 less than paying for the detail and I get some product. But that's my truck. Wouldn't recommend for my bike. The tire shine OK. Still have most of product sitting in the corner of my garage unused

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  2 года назад

      I really dont have a huge issue with F11...I do however have a gigantic issue with the way they market it like it's some magic pill and a one-time use product to justify the price. It simply doesn't last any longer than a good carnauba wax, if anything it doesn't last near as long as a top shelf wax will...its just "easy" I would take a middle shelf carnauba paste wax over f11 any day on any of my vehicles. I just hate seeing people getting suckered into the "magic potion" and blowing their hard-earned money.

    The video picture at the beginning shows a hsrley with deep scratches that could not be taken out without ruining the paint. The products used in this video should only be used for really fine swirls and scuffs, not deep scratches. A very deceptive video.

      Those arent deep scratches on the picture..they are bugs..why the hell would I lie about this? I don't get sponsored by any single product I said to use in this video..I don't make money from any of that..whats the point in being deceptive. I stated in the video not once but twice that this was a light to medium paint correction and if you were looking for deep scratches videos this isn't the one. And where do you see deep scratches on in the picture? I literally made the image so please point out those deep scratches so I can see them. "The products used in this video should only be used for really fine swirls and scuffs" Where in the heck did you get that info? here you go -
      The Last Cut - Compounding Glaze
      Heavy defect removal - zero fillers
      Extended product work time
      Easy product removal
      High Lubrication to reduce surface heat build-up
      Versatile - Compatible with Microfiber, Wool, and Foam Pads
      As you can see in my final walk through where I compared the start and finish of the bike there is still scratches in the bike. THOSE are the scratches that will require more than just a simple coumpond..once again...as I stated in the video...twice.

      Understandable...I base the price off the bike itself I never quote a bike until I see it..learned that lesson the hard way..But for example this bike was in the higher end to the amount of damage it had and how overall dirty it was. 300 was the quote on this one but it was also 2 days of work. For the CMX, does it matter if it’s the ceramic spray?

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  2 месяца назад +1

      do not use the cmx Ceramic spray coating (that's a final step) ....the CMX I am reffering to is an ISO wipe, surface prep....the is IPA (alcohol) based and removes all waxes, polishes and oils so your new wax or ceramic can stick. Basically it takes it down to clear coat with nothing on it. Cermic spray has ceramic in it and will put ceramic on your clear coat and will not allow waxes to stick. Any surface prep will work and you can even make your own with alcohol and water. If you are mixing-up a 32-ounce bottle of IPA spray, you’ll need 6-ounces of 91% IPA, before topping-off the rest of the bottle with distilled water. This will allow you to achieve a total IPA ratio of around 17%, with 7-8 ounces of IPA being on the heavier handed end of the spectrum. Pick up some cheap 91% alchohol at wal mart and mix it up with distilled water. Your steps will be - Wash, dry, clay bar, polish (if needed) Wipe clean, ISO Wipe (to remove waxes and oils) then wax or ceramic coat last. here are some links to the CMX I sue and other store bought iso wipes amzn.to/3zTWvpo - amzn.to/4fnDpbJ - amzn.to/3Wj3KPf I hope this helps dn I understood your question correctly. Let me know.
